Whitey Shafer "You Are A Liar"

Sanger D. "Whitey" Shafer is probably best known for the oodles of country hits he's penned during his career such as "All My Ex's Live In Texas", "I Never Go Around Mirrors", "The Baptism Of Jesse Taylor", "Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind", and sooo many others. He's also a fine singer who managed to land two singles on the country charts in the early 80's. This was his first and biggest hit (#48 in 1981). Great stuff I could hear George Strait cover! I was setting in a business in Waco, Texas I guess it was about 1976, Whitey came in and sat down at the table with me and our conversation grew to include his music and this song. He sang it to the 5-6 people who were present. This is the first time I heard it as a recording of his. Thanks Whitey for all the wonderful songs you gave us.

I had the pleasure to meet him along with all the Tree songwriters in Houston for a golf tourny for Floyd Tillman. Hank Cochran, Red Lane, Sonny Throckmorton all treated me and my brothers fantastic, a nite to remember

There must be a production plant somewhere in Texas that turns out great talented singer/songwriters by the score. Whitey fits that description and he has been responsible for a huge number of chart-busting songs, penned for other artists. The German record label Bear Family Records, had a great box-set out on Whitey's work some time ago.
