I have the same outfit myself, with an Alvey reel I bought as a teenager in the 1970s. We are both still going strong. I love the sensitivity of the direct line feed, especially when targeting whiting.

Hey Geoff, wow that is awesome mate! They are such tough reels, almost unbreakable! 😁 I agree with you there, it’s great to be able to be directly connected to the fish, feeling everything. So much fun! Tight lines mate 👍🎣

Best gear ever,, simple and hand on to great grand kids, never breaks, no maintenance, best control, winches up cliffs.. the only reel.

Hey Lauchlan, you’re spot on there mate! These are reels that my grandfather used and they are still out there catching fish, no other reel could do that! They are awesome, and will never be beaten. Tight lines and thanks for watching 😁👍🎣

Not "old school gear" but the right gear ! Bought my first Alvey reel 43 years ago ..... and it's still going strong.

Yes mate, there aren't any reels out there like them. Can dunk them fully in salt water for 40 years and they are still the toughest reel around! Thanks for watching mate, and keep slaying them on the original Alveys!!

Great video. I’m new to the area and want to have a go at whiting. Can you let me know where this is? Thanks!
@willkitching5 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, thanks for the kind words! 👌 I appreciate it. This is on the Gold Coast broadwater at Southport. Almost all of the sandbanks in there have Whiting like this on them. Fish the shallows like in this video, the people that don't catch fish are fishing too deep. You can drift the channels between banks too around low tide but as the tide comes in and first starts covering the banks, fish the shallows. Hope this helps mate if you have any other questions let me know !

G’day mate! The Alveys we use in the estuary are 5” mate. When I was growing up Dad gave me a little 4” Alvey on a smaller rod! The 5” Alveys are perfect though 👍
@TheRealMrCods5 жыл бұрын
The gear doesnt matter. Its all about the bait and the hook. I catch whiting on all of my gear. Even my shark rod catches whiting lol
@willkitching5 жыл бұрын
Yeah for sure mate. You can catch big fish on small hooks but you can't catch small fish on big hooks. Cheers for the comment as always MrCods 👍

Ah Alveys....... just like normal fishing but, A) with that stability and sure-footedness that you can only get with an alvey or by strapping a pizza oven to the rear rod grip, B) no annoying bite-offs with alveys' guaranteed mackerel-free retrieve ratio, and C) a chance to utilise and fully appreciate the inadequacy of swivels as any more than just a sinker stop! Lol.
@willkitching5 жыл бұрын
HAHAHAH classic mate, I had a good laugh at this comment 😂😂 I might even screenshot it and add it into another video if you don't mind 😂 cheers for the comment mate, appreciate it! 🎣

LOL, yeah mate it was all fresh to me cos only a week before i'd been up the Nerang, broadwater, and seaway targeting thumpers with a bionic-fingered mate who was working his alveys on the other side of the boat, and copping a hard time from me on his choice of gear. He was having the last laugh tho, outfished me 3 to 1....and he's still telling me about it haha. Feel free to use any of my material bud.... pardon the pun, but screenshot "at Will" ;) A bit of Alvey history before i go..... I actually have one of the very first, pre-production prototypes passed down from my pop. I dunno exactly how old it is, but i guarantee its the oldest one in existence. Think its been carved from dried brontosaurus poo.... can tell by the bits of corn in it.

@@willkitching I found the Black Queen Deluxe on ebay. I have just had one delivered but I'm yet to use it. The weather has been a bit up and down here of late and with juggling work haven't had a chance to use it. I'll give it a crack soon as I can matched up with an Alvey 500A. Some 6lb line and simple ball sinker rig down to a long shank size 6 hook. let you know how I go with it. take care bud.

@@westfishos4276 Hey awesome to hear mate, I'm glad you found one! They feel a bit different to your average modern day rod but they are awesome, especially when matched with an Alvey. I hope you land some cracking fish on it!! Let me know how you go. Cheers, Will
