Yup longer leader best a good metre of leader for any fish. Whiting are a prey fish on dark nights when the whiting move phosphorus lights up in the water and the Jewfish use the phosphorus to hunt makes it easier for the to see where the whiting are. That why whiting bite better when there's a moon. Also after the full moon the moon will rise a hour later each night and the whiting won't bite till that moon comes up 👍

That is very interesting mate, I’d never heard or thought of that before! But it makes sense that the whiting could be a prey during dark periods and predators during lit up nights. Jewfish do get caught up in the shallows at night in some places, chasing mullet and whiting! Thanks for the comment and I hope you enjoyed the video mate. Tight lines! 🎣

Nice vid and advice, hopefully I get out this weekend or next. A skilled fisher let's the fish swallow the hook lol 😆

Thanks for the comment as always mate! 😁 Fingers crossed you can get out there and nail a few! Yeah I think Matt had one there that was hooked and swimming around the sand bank for about a minute before he finally started to wind it in haha! 🤣🤣 It definitely results in more hookups if you wait until they start to swim off with it though! Tight lines mate

@willkitching perfect timing mate tbh, was only wanting to get into some whiting fishing and this popped up 😂. Have you ever fished the Newport canals or mouth for whiting?
@willkitchingАй бұрын
@@thebayslayer1 That’s awesome mate, perfect timing! Whiting are pretty simple to gear up for and target, but it still takes a bit of learning to have regular success. I hope you get out there an nail a few over spring and summer! 😁 Is that the canals at Redcliffe? I’ve never fished them but I wouldn’t be surprised if there are whiting there if there are any shallower sand banks that get good tidal flow over them. It looks like there are some shallower banks either side of the mouth? I also wouldn’t be surprised if there are a few mangrove jack in there with the big long rock walls and pontoons.

Torturing that fish for your intro speaks reams about your intelligence and love of fish. Absolutely disgusting

I was taught to use a cool wet cloth, don’t hang the fish in the air by its mouth or with the hook inside, don’t stroke the slime off the fish, don’t yank to set the hook and get them back in the water or despatch them asap. It’s just a few tips about being respectful of animals.
