Great video. I love targeting KGs, and I have spent many hours mucking around with the best rig for them. All i can say is red tubes, beads, even sequins are all good options for attractants and i believe the whiting respond well, especially with bloodworms and gulp worms.

Hey awesome tutorial, will be trying it out. I recently fished at Flinders for whiting and no matter how I set up my Paternoster & Running Sinker I had problems with the notorious weedy carpet bed around the Flinders Pier. I tried a massive gap between the sinker and the closest hook to it, didn't solve the issue, I was wondering if there was anything you recommend other than a float setup - And if I were to set this up with a float what would it look like

I double the line,make a small loop,twist it twice then fees the big loop through for my patternosters.Then I cut one of the legs off and attach hook with uni knot. Any reason you use unlocked blood knots?I find they let go under tension on big fish and would always lock them.I use uni knots solely now. Great work.Keep it up.

Yeah you can use any sort of hooks on both the rigs created. I generally do either baitkeeper, long shank or circle hooks.

J hooks find need to be active to set , I use 2 rods so I use worm hooks or small circles, knot I prefer is the Snell as it applies pressure self setting = just pick rod up and wind in 😉

It just acts as an attractant and the change of colour can grab a fishes attention. Its really personal preference whether you need them or not. I have had occasions where the rigs with the beads were getting more catches.

We generally go as light as we possibly can, this will be determined by the tidal flow and depth. If I'm fishing somewhere that's 3-5 meters deep and not to much tidal flow than size 1 is OK, it means the fish feels less resistance when they strike which is good. If your baits aren't getting to the bottom than go slightly heavier.

Hi Nigel, i generally troll soft plastics and hard body lures, rarley troll baits unless targeting kingfish. These rigs work great when anchored or drifiting for pinkies, whiting, flathead, redfin and others

Mainline i usually use braid generally between 6-10 lb. However as its for fishing with bait it can be cheaper to use mono again 6-10 lb. Braid is much more important when lure and plastics fishing but i tend to use it for most of my fishing.

Hey mate i've watched lots of your knot videos and i notice most use a swivel. Do you fish all of these with mono main line? to my understanding it's not the norm to run a swivel with brain main line, rather an FG knot or the like. Any info would be appreciated mate

When bait fishing will often use a swivel to the fluro leader as this helps the rig stay very strong. Otherwise whenever doing any soft plastic or lure fishing always braid to fluro using a FG or double uni. Sometimes bait rigs I will also use braid to fluro

Hi Karina, im glad your enjoying the content and finding the rigging vids helpful. In this video i used different color lines just to make it easier to follow. Typically for whiting I would be using anything from 6-12 lb leader. You can use this rig for a whole range of species and just change the leader strength depending on the fish that your targeting. I tend not to have the sinker down near the hook, my reasoning for this is it add resistance when the fish takes the bite it may feel the resistance on not get a clean strike. not to say it wouldn't work but that's what I've always thought

Yeah 100 agreed, and that strategy works awesome for species like flathead and snapper just to get the bait down but using small sinkers so there isn't much resistance.

Thats wonderful. Im sure you will love it. Most of kayak fishing is done on the west side around Altona, Werribee and Geelong. On the east side I would definitley be thinking of targeting blackrock, stkilda, mount martha, port melbounre. some amazing fishing spots around there. Blackrock is great for snapper, squid flathead, stkilda great for flathead, snapper, snook, mount martha exceptional for squid and salmon, port melbourne amazing for snapper. I hope this helps. Im hoping to build a massive kayak launching page in the coming months to give more specific launching spots

Thanks for the positive comment. I was using different colours just to make the video easier to understand. usually I would be using the same leader. I find using 2 lines to make the rig is much tidier. I have another way of making 2 dropper lines using the one piece of leader but then the lines where the hooks are become doubled up which is really messy and i think the strike rates are less. They say the tubing imitates a worm or bigger bait which attracts fish. Its also nice for clean presentation and less tangles. You dont have to add it.
