What I like about this ultra lite, is the noise factor, greatly reduced, compared to a gas engine, also the shear simplicity of maintenance. EDIT: I'm unable to reply in comments lately, so on the muffler issue, yeah, you could add a muffler, but then that's significant weight loading and reduces power.

What a beautifully clean looking setup 😍 Cant wait for the next evolution of batteries to take flying to the next level. Cheers
@Metacognitor2 жыл бұрын
That analogy works if you add the fact that the type of fuel you'll be filling it with costs much less than gasoline per tank. Over the life of the aircraft you will end up saving quite a lot on fuel cost.

@@Metacognitor Yes, I understood that, that's why I said slight exception. I also have a CriCri and an Aeroprakt 24 amphibian, but I've only flown the electric Silent since I got it. It's registered as a "Basic Ultralight" in Canada so I can do the negligible maintenance required with minimal paperwork. The Silent is 8 years old with original batteries which show very little loss of capacity. So far I've done over 550 hours in our short gliding season never needing a tow or running below 20% battery or not making it back to my airport.. Most flights are over 2 hours and several have been over 5 hours and 300km. Sadly the days are getting short and the gliding season here is almost over. I've been maintaining a commercial pilot medical but it's unnecessary for a Basic Ultralight. The Blackfly VTOL is another electric aircraft that interests me but they aren't available yet.

i would love to have a old style pre1940s flyer with a EV motor

Love this! Battery technology is the only thing holding electric aviation back at the moment. The electric motor has always been superior to the I.C.E but batteries have always been heavy and expensive. The future is now ❤

That and the limited supply of lithium, the limited range, the discharge rate, the vulnerability to immediate electrical discharge…. For aviation, it is extremely unlikely that any significant range or flight time will be achieved electrically, specifically with weight requirements.
@Fat_Tony Жыл бұрын
@@Rakkasan-vr8xt exactly, "battery technology is the only thing holding electric aviation back at the moment." It will be probably many years until a battery is made that can rival the raw energy contained inside a drop of gasoline.

Except for the color, that is the A/C I intend to purchase. The only problem might be the effect of very cold weather on battery performance. (Yup, will be flying wearing snow mobile clothing.)

What would it take to get three hours of flight time out of it?

You realize even the gas one doesn't have that endurance, right? Ultralights are limited to 5 gal of fuel..
@Scruffers20113 жыл бұрын
@@emotodude yes, but why would that matter with a battery pack?

@@emotodude is the rule about limiting range or limiting the amount of gasoline?

@@Scruffers2011 The rule limits the weight, range, and speed.
@SoloRenegade3 жыл бұрын
@@codetech5598 The rule limits the fuel to 5gal, not the range. An ultralight motorglider has theoretically infinite range.

Won't be long the battery tech will quadruple and fly time will be great 👌

Love the innovation! But..? Why avoiding specifying, battery Flight time duration! And, powertrain and battery weight. versus engine and fuel!🤔
