But I still believe that when he wrote it many years ago he was kind of truly touched and inspired by the longing for the Lord’s presence and help to his own anxious and lonely soul, or maybe someone’s else. It seems to me that the lyrics fitted to express a similar situation or experience Whitney was living through when she recorded this song, and perhaps many other people have somehow experienced that kind of issue in their lives, too. And here I include myself. There were situations in my life that I really thought “I was about to lose my breath, sinking to rise no more”, when there seemed to be no more open doors, all hope gone, a deep depression of my soul took control of my whole being... And then, I could remember that “after all my strength was gone, in God I could still be strong”, and so I decided to turn my look to the Almighty and ask for help. If today I’m still here standing tall, despite all the troubles in the way, I truly believe that it is because God has “shined on me” and helped me to transcend mistakes, anxieties, loneliness, and meaningless of life through faith in his love for all the humanity through Jesus Christ. That’s why for me this song is and will always be a sincere prayer from a lost soul to the Almighty, regardless its writer is now a criminal behind bars, which is so sad. Hopefully R.Kelly will really repent from his crimes and return his look to God who can pardon and set free his soul, heart and mind, even if sentenced to life prison.
