The problem was that Whitney set the bar, and she set it so high. I'll never forget her voice on "I Will Always Love You," and particularly around that time she was the gold standard, the mark of perfection. No one since has been able to touch her, and I doubt that anyone ever will. Unfortunately, she was judged more harshly later on because every time she opened her mouth to sing, everyone expected this greatness and she was constantly compared to those earlier years, when her voice was new, fresh and in its prime. Who among us could possibly compete with a 20-something year old version of ourselves when in our 40's?

WHITNEY HOUSTON, THE QUEEN OF THE VOICE Whitney Elizabeth Houston (August 9, 1963 - February 11, 2012) was an American singer and actress. Nicknamed "The Voice", she is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with sales of over 200 million records worldwide. Houston has influenced many singers in popular music, and is known for her powerful, soulful vocals and vocal improvisation skills. She is the only artist to have had seven consecutive number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100, from "Saving All My Love for You" in 1985 to "Where Do Broken Hearts Go" in 1988. Houston enhanced her popularity upon entering the movie industry. Her recordings and films, have generated both great success and controversy. She has received numerous accolades throughout her career and posthumously, including two Emmy Awards, six Grammy Awards, 16 Billboard Music Awards, and 28 Guinness World Records, as well as induction into the Grammy Hall of Fame (twice), the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the New Jersey Hall of Fame. Houston was ranked among the “Top 100 Greatest Artists of All Time” by magazines such as VH1, Billboard, MTV, and Rolling Stones. Houston began singing in church as a child and became a background vocalist while in high school. She was one of the first black women to appear on the cover of Seventeen after becoming a teen model in 1981. With the guidance of Arista Records chairman Clive Davis, Houston signed to the label at age 19. Her first two studio albums, Whitney Houston (1985) and Whitney (1987), both peaked at number one on the Billboard 200 and are among the best-selling albums of all time. Houston's third studio album, I'm Your Baby Tonight (1990), yielded two Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles: "I'm Your Baby Tonight" and "All the Man That I Need". Houston made her acting debut with the romantic thriller film The Bodyguard (1992), which became the tenth highest-grossing film to that date despite receiving poor reviews for its screenplay and lead performances. She recorded six songs for the film's soundtrack, including "I Will Always Love You" which won the Grammy Award for Record of the Year and became the best-selling physical single by a woman in music history. The soundtrack for The Bodyguard won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year and remains the best-selling soundtrack album of all time. Houston went on to star and record soundtracks for Waiting to Exhale (1995) and The Preacher's Wife (1996). Houston produced the latter's soundtrack, which became the best-selling gospel album of all time. As a film producer, she produced multicultural movies including Cinderella (1997) and series including The Princess Diaries and The Cheetah Girls. Houston's first studio album in eight years, My Love Is Your Love (1998), sold millions and spawned several hit singles, including "Heartbreak Hotel", "It's Not Right but It's Okay" and "My Love Is Your Love". Following the success, she renewed her contract with Arista for $100 million, one of the biggest recording deals of all time. However, her personal problems began overshadowing her career. Her 2002 studio album, Just Whitney, received mixed reviews. Her drug use and a tumultuous marriage to singer Bobby Brown received widespread media coverage. After a six-year break from recording, Houston returned to the top of the Billboard 200 chart with her final studio album, I Look to You (2009). On February 11, 2012, Houston accidentally drowned in a bathtub at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills, with heart disease and cocaine use as contributing factors. News of her death coincided with the 2012 Grammy Awards and was covered internationally. 👑💯‼️❤️💯‼️😘😘😘 And I have the great, great honor of having (now!) eight albums by this American music diva in my discography. So I have THE BODYGUARD - SOUNDTRACK (1992), two copies in CD format. I still have (now!) four original albums, all equally in CD format, because I don't buy, nor do I like the digital download. So I have the album WHITNEY (1987), two units, MY LOVE IS YOUR LOVE (1998), also two units. And I recently bought the CD, released in 2002, JUST WHITNEY..., just one copy. For me, I regret the commercial failure of this album, it's an excellent album! Today I ordered another Whitney Houston CD. I LOOK TO YOU (2009). Only one copy, one unit. Therefore, there are eight albums in all. All her albums are Pop/R&B masterpieces, I like all the ones I have, and the albums I don't have yet, but Just Whitney... it's just genius! I'm a big fan of Whitney Houston, too! God bless you and may you have the happiness you didn't have on Earth! 👑💯‼️❤️💯‼️🌹🌹🌹 I Look to You is the seventh and final studio album by American singer Whitney Houston. It was first released on August 28, 2009, through Sony Music in Europe, then August 31, 2009 with Arista Records in the United States before being released by RCA Records in the United Kingdom on October 19, 2009. The album was Houston's first non-holiday studio album since 2002's Just Whitney. It received favorable reviews from music critics, based on an aggregate score of 66/100 from Metacritic and debuted on the US Billboard 200 at number one with sales of 305,000 beating her previous career best first-week sale of 205,137 units with Just Whitney (2002), and it was her first album to reach number one in the US since 1992's The Bodyguard. Additionally it became her fourth chart-topping album, thus extending her as the female artist with the most cumulative weeks at the number one position. It has spawned two official singles: The title song, which became a top 20 US R&B chart single, and the international single "Million Dollar Bill", which hit the top ten in several countries worldwide and also becoming a US top 20 R&B hit. Since its release, I Look to You has gone on to sell over 2.5 million copies worldwide, earning platinum certification in seven countries and gold certification in eight. A promotional single, "Nothin' But Love", taken from the album, was only released to UK radio stations to promote the accompanying Nothing but Love World Tour. Houston died on February 11, 2012, making this her last living studio release.

longbranch11207 I've never watched the funeral program just r kellys performance and when they carried her off and that wasn't until now. After watching Michael Jacksons funeral service I said I'm not watching Whitneys. I stopped having respect for Clive when Whitney died and he continued to throw that pre grammy bullshit of a party while her deceased body just laid upstairs, who could or would even want to party? If it wasn't for Whitney im sure a lot of people wouldn't even know or care about Clive.. He's all about business and I guess for him the show must go on but this old mofo didn't give a fuck about the real Nippy but just Whitney Houston... Clive is shady and when I heard how wrong he did TLC that was enough for me.
