As a singer you adjust to whatever instrumentatily is played. Musicians accompanying her (except Kirk Whalum on the sax and her brother in the brackground) were never the same, so even though the musical sheets were the same, the arrengements were mostly always different. It's a well known fact that she rarely rehearsed, so to do it this good from the get go is quite the accomplishment. She was that good!

@2008bscott8 жыл бұрын
I'm sure they were like: "She has a cold so we don't know what to expect with this note"(the fantasy part) and then she of course came up with what she did and executed brilliantly! People shit on her(say she lacked musicality) because she didn't write songs, but she didn't need to with her level of vocal interpretation and improvisation. Here she goes along with the "bluesy" rendition of her own song and came up with that series of notes for that part. At this point, she could do what she felt vocally because she seemed so in tune with the music that whatever she made up made sense in terms of the melody.
@candid01118 жыл бұрын
Amen!
@candid01118 жыл бұрын
no she did not need to write her songs. when she sings a song live you get an entire different song and a totally unique experience. not many can do that. some singers now can only sing a song the same way all the time. for eg. certain songs rihanna sings u already know who wrote it because she picked up their style. i dont say this to insult rihanna. likewise adele. i cannot listen to her live performances because i know it is the same song she sings the same way every time. when you have talent you can interpret a song so many different ways using the same words, the same tune. whitney had this. that was her true talent. the woman was blessed. she was the greatest and we will never see or hear anything like this again.

This is class. Nowaydays they jump into the crowd, throw up on stage, take selfies, run up and down the stage with minimum and poor singing, trying to shift the crowd's focus of the fact that they can't sing. But when you're Whitney all you need is a comfortable chair, your old church rag and a microphone, that is how you do it. THE G-O-A-T!!!!!!!Miss you Momma

@osmannadiraydin3 жыл бұрын
Each time she sing a song live, she re-create it with new tricks. She doesn’t copy her previous performances cause she can confidently improvise even when she has a cold! Besides her vocal power and quality which is the golden standart, she’s sooo creative with phrasing. And her control over the band is everything. All those together, make her each performance totally unique and a must-see!

That/Those note(s) appeared to even surprise the sax player.....kind of like "how the hell did she come up with that and pull it off especially with a cold ?" I love both her and Mariah, but what I noticed about Whitney and those types of notes in general (the head voice I think), is that when Whitney did runs/melisma, they seemed to be generally done in way that made more sense with respect to whatever part of the song (Though, Mariah could I think execute more complex ones that were indeed beautiful, they didn't sound as strategic and certainly were hardly ever improvised on the spot). When you hear these performances and how she does them in a million different ways (fitting either her voice that day or whatever vocal choices she wants from an artistic point of view), I don't see how and why people doubt Whitney's creativity and musicianship simply because she didn't write her songs. She was creative with her voice and did various things that made sense within the context of the song

If I could a attain a velvety singing voice and sound like this while having a freaking cold, I may consider cigarettes temporarily.
