Absolute chills. No one will touch this rendition. Not just because she sang with so much power, perfect pitch, great control and placement, but because she told a story. She sang the second verse with such a soft conviction. She didn’t just belt and scream the entire time. She used different areas of her voice to give a nuanced performance of a song that’s been done to hell. Stop comparing people to Whitney’s version. It isn’t fair. This transcends vocal talent. This is pure musicianship and an untouchable talent for understanding the details of the voice and the way one can enhance a story through their style of vocal.

Lip syncing is such a stupid debate. Yes, she lip synced it. It's well-documented, so stop questioning that. It also doesn't make her a worse singer for it. Pre-recorded tracks get used in all kinds of live events when it's hard to run live sound, and every great singer has mimed to a track at some point. that coy little smile she has throughout her performance is very telling. She knows that she's killing it, and its SO easy for her. Best performance of our national anthem and by a LONG SHOT.

I don't think the word 'coy' means what you want to think it means

techNOMAD coy /koi/ adjective (especially with reference to a woman) making a pretense of shyness or modesty that is intended to be alluring.

Alex Maldonado well if she knows she’s killing it, then it’s not coy. I’d say she’s more bold, or gregarious, essentially the opposite of coy. *~The More You Know~*
