Whitney Houston, it’s the light of a jewel in a night-time setting. She was not only a singer, she was a vibration, a breath, a prayer incarnate. This woman, sculpted by fate in the reflections of a classical beauty, had in her eyes a star-like brightness and in her voice the resonance of a thunder that also knew how to make itself whisper. A mystery both sacred and profane, a goddess at human level, mixing greatness and fragility in an alchemy that leaves you bewildered. It was emotion in its purest state, a river that overflows and takes everything in its path. When she sang, it was not just notes, it was tears of soul, cries of love, scars and caresses. I Will Always Love You", it wasn’t a song, it was an oath taken to the world, a pain transfigured into light. Such a voice is almost insolent, it is a weapon capable of breaking indifference, of breaking the hardest hearts. It touched something primal, universal, a language without words that was without explanation. But behind this diva draped in rhinestones and glory, there was Whitney, the woman. A soul child, born in Newark, rocked by gospel songs and echoes of a vibrant and wounded America. It carried in itself the hopes and sorrows of a people, of an age. She was deeply human, moving in her victories as well as in her distractions. It was not a perfect icon, and maybe that’s why we loved it so much. It had its cracks, its flaws, this shadow that gives the light all its depth. Whitney Houston, it’s a firework that burned too fast, but the sparks of which continue to dance in our memories. An angel fallen, perhaps, but whose every wing beat has left an indelible mark on the great partition of human emotion. A rare woman, irreplaceable, because she knew, better than anyone, to sing life by making it vibrate in its silences. R.I.P Whitney 19 november 2024 9:54 PM

Oh my gosh, sorry for my mistake about that Lyndon btw, I still remember Whitney's debut on the Solid Gold show (when her cousin Dione Warwick was the host back in 1985 and presented for the first time her second degree cousin to the world and I didn't give a s*** about their kinship cause I was focused the whole time on her indisputable talent, beauty, charisma, soulful presence on stage and it was just the beginning for The Voice 👑❤️) , btw it still hurts SO so much 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔

I came here this morning immediately after listening to Dolly talk about writing it on that Dolly Parton's America podcast. I had no idea she wrote it. Whitney's version totally makes me cry tho. So good.

@@mamashaoc7278Dolly is probably the most iconic songwriter of all time. I think shes actually in the guiness book of world records. Shes written so many hits. But she could never sing like Whitney. I love them both equally and my heart hurts that Whitney was so troubled in life....
@donkmeister4 жыл бұрын
@@shockmesane4158 comparing the virtual merits of the original and Houston's cover, I think Dolly Parton's version sounds more authentic as a song of love that must be set free. Whitney Houston's is a fine performance but it has no soul.

@@mamashaoc7278 Yes and since Dolly Parton is the sole songwriter of this song actually took it to #1 twice on the Billboard Country Chart, once originally in the 70's then again in the 80's when Whitney covered it in the 90's and it went to #1 for a third time on the Billboard charts this time on the Hot 💯 this when Dolly Parton made history as being credited as the songwriter who wrote a song that went to #1 three times in three different decades and did so in different genres.

I dedicated this song to my mom once, I always wished she would feel this way about exiting my life. She was an alcoholic, she was a damaging part of my childhood. I never felt this as an amorous love song, I heard it as the goodbye I always needed from her. In the end it was, she always remembered hearing this song dedicated when she lived in another city, she heard me….through Whitney. I’ll always cry when I hear it.

I don’t know if you already know this or if this will be any consolation to you but it was never originally meant as an amorous song. Dolly Parton wrote that song for Porter Wagner, the man who helped launch her career, to get his blessing to move on to bigger and better things. He may not have always been loving and kind to her but she kept her word to always love him til his dying days. I think Whitney and Dolly would be honored to know their song helped you find some semblance of peace.
