It's a very well marked system and seems to work very well

The $330 travel through is for tour buses that carry 50 people. As for going back and forth through the tunnel, we purchase a seasonal pass.

I knew about this but I saw hobo shoestring going through it the other day and he got me interested in it. Thanks a lot I want to go into a little more detail.

330 seems pretty damn expensive but I suppose not many people hauling loads that big come by the tunnel anyway, for me and my hilux it was only 13 dollars
@jessiesdroneadventures74642 жыл бұрын
Right! sounds ridiculous! me and my buddies were thinking that they may have discounted rates worked out for regular drivers that go that route, could be wrong but if its expensive for the drivers its probably expensive for the shops, hotels etc etc that are in that town to have things shipped in

Is there like offices or any facilities in that tunnel? There’s a tunnel in Ohio that’s about 50 miles long and there’s multiple businesses and offices off to the side in between it. Used to be a salt mine. Just wondering if anybody has ever got out the car in the middle of the tunnel, then walk the rest of the way or go exploring.?? I think that would be a bad ass, KZbin video
@jessiesdroneadventures74642 жыл бұрын
I agree! That would be a pretty BA video! But as far as I know, there isnt. There is multiple pull over areas in the tunnel that has gates that go to other parts, but there just used for maintenance and I would guess for emergency situations like a car accidents, vehicles getting stuck or breaking down etc

What are those doors for on the inside of the tunnel? Think I counted 7 of them. Where do they lead?
@jessiesdroneadventures74642 жыл бұрын
Don't know for sure I would guess alternative entrances for maintenance/ emergency use

According to Wikipedia they are 'safe rooms' in case of fire or emergency. they also say there's some 'pull-off' areas for disabled vehicles. The tunnel also accommodates trains which have priority over cars. It is both the longest highway tunnel and highway-rail tunnel in N. America. It began as a rail-only tunnel (which explains it's width) in early 1941.
@radanju32 жыл бұрын
@@P_RO_ Actually in terms of longest rail tunnels in North America, that record place belongs to the Cascade Tunnel in Washington between Skykomish and Wenatchee. Whittier is definitely up there though.

They are safe houses.

Why do they close it? Is it closed for only cars or do they let atvs go threw? Heck even an electric bike could handle 2 and a half miles no problem for the after hours. That way no one gets stuck like that.
@jessiesdroneadventures74642 жыл бұрын
I can't say for sure but in my opinion I would guess for maintenance purposes and maybe because traffic is little to none at night, probably just doesn't warrant having people on the clock

This is Alaska nobody needs to be on a bicycle in that tunnel it was made by the military for the military in world war II. They started on both ends and met in the middle and was off by one foot that's what we used to be able to do

Okay I saw 🪚 shoestring check it out he took the boat to Whittier or he took the boat somewhere else to the Bay it's beautiful there. I can now see why people either like Alaska or hate it. And he can get used to the weather I believe it was a great for freedom
