Kevin I am always impressed with your carvings and even more impressed with the tools you use.. I would love to see a video on how to make that knife.
@KevinCoates986 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mark. I was given another one of these big knives a couple weeks ago. When I get some free time after the Christmas rush I will do a video on converting it to a knife I can carve with

Excellent as always, Kevin. I would really like to see him all painted up at the end of the video.

Thanks. To be honest I had it there to add into the video. I was so busy with other carvings at the time I completely forgot.

Do you wet your wood? It looks shiny perhaps the lighting causes wet shiny look. Your wood is? It cuts wonderfully of course your knife is super sharp. Thanks for sharing your talent.
@KevinCoates986 жыл бұрын
The wood is white pine. I think it may be the lighting giving it that look. Thanks

What's the finest grit you use sharpening if you don't mind sharing? Wonderful work as always!
@KevinCoates986 жыл бұрын
All I use for sharpening is a flat file for grounding when need be. Apart from that I have a little 1”x3” stone and a block of wood with honing compound. Nothing fancy here. Maybe I’ll do a video one day on how I sharpen my knives.

Me neither but when I looked for a colour reference that’s similar to what came up in the search. A dusty rose colour. This was the closest colour I had to it

What knife are you using in this video? I’m new to whittling/carving and haven’t seen one like it!
@KevinCoates986 жыл бұрын
The knife I use here is a fish fillet knife. I cut 3”-4” of the blade to make it more friendly to carve with.

Have you ever cut yourself Kevin? I took my glove off to do a tight piece the other day and with a brand new freshly stropped flexcut I proceeded to slice a 2" gash in one finger and took the tip off the next one. Now I am scared to death to start carving again once they heal. I want to carve because I love it but im afraid I'll be too anxious.
@KevinCoates986 жыл бұрын
Yes I have cut myself many times first when I started carving. Nothing as serious as you just described though. I could see why you are a little nervous going back at it again. The reason I was cutting myself so much was carelessness most of the time. When I figured out how to control the knife with my other thumb I cut myself a lot less. I guess we learn by our mistakes. Hopefully you’ll get past your fear to start carving again. Good luck to you Bill.

oooooo kevin . wear a glove please ;)
@KevinCoates986 жыл бұрын
I know I should and I would encourage everyone to wear one. I always carved without a glove so it’s just a bad habit for me. One that I’ll probably regret one day
