Probably the biggest reason that the swans midfield were down against the lions is the absence of Rowbottom. Without Rowbottom getting the contested footy and defensive work done, the other players had to pick up the slack, Parker was playing only his second game of the year, Gulden and Warner are far more attacking oriented. Heeney will be fine when he has enough support, especially when Mills is back and ready for a full game in the midfield.

Bulldogs' bottom 6 has come along in leaps and bounds in the last two months - I've been a huge critic of vandermeer and his ceiling is never going to be that high but he's worked his arse off and isn't the only fringe player to be doing so.

On 'unpacking Freo v. Melb'. Gawn mentioned this morning on MMM that the Melbourne coaches in the box mentioned several times they were blown away by how well Fremantle were set up behind the ball. Wasn't mentioned by King but it definitely improves Dockers defence on turnover if they're playing a riskier ball movement game. Don't ride Melbourne off yet either.

I don't see Sydney winning the Premiership, something about these tight losses against Fremantle, St Kilda and Brisbane that I can't put my finger on, yet there's an issue troubling me. Hawthorn I think misses the finals due to the everything we want with equal competition and gives the shits through inconsistency. Because of the 8 wins from the last 10 games, Hawthorn has expelled energy you say ok 3 wins in the last 5 games, that's 13 wins like Geelong, Port and Bulldogs, but their % is what has me predict a painful 9th place for the Hawks. Brisbane is the obvious favourite, forget Carlton because even they don't know who they are as a football identity, have the natural talent yet it's not dependable enough to raise a Cup. G.W.S clearly presents a challenge, but hasn't captured wins that leaves an impression on the contenders, that you should be worried or are right to be feeling nervous and lastly Fremantle. I'm not a Dockers supporter and the idea of Fremantle Dockers fans celebrating Grand Final victory would be 6 months if it were a day makes the skin crawl. But apart from a lousy performance against the Bulldogs, there's little to find wrong with Fremantle the last 3 months and they learnt how to score very satisfactory now. I'm tipping Fremantle as the AFL Premiers in 2024.

David King. Papley, who normally pinch hits for Warner & Heens was off the field Mills did not play. Nor did Rowbottom. That's half the mids gone Heens, had to have an AFL Tribunal week off & was probably a bit off due to that. In the wings are Gus Sheldrick, 39 & 7 clearances in the VFL & Cleary 25 & 6. Gus has already proven he is a good performer at AFL level. Parker was in game 2 & limited mid minutes. How about this scenario; Gus Sheldrick back, Mills back, Rowbottom back. You now don't have just w trio, you have 6.

I am pointing out that we have played nearly all season without 3 mids that would have been a walk up start. Mills, Parker & Sheldrick. King is saying we only have two mids which is stupid. Yes, Paps is injured, but this week we regain Rowbottom, who is our most important mid. This is what I am pointing out. Rowbottom gets no accolades but is the one player opposition need to stop if they are to beat us. With Rowbottom out & Sheldrick not ready, he plays a similar style to Rowie, we have had to put Heeney in to be the beast, which does not suit his game. Rowie will free him up.

The Pies demographic is not looking good. They have the majority of their team over 30. Very few on their list are 19-26. I think only 6 or 8 players. That is damning. They can't trade their way out of this. They will need to draft. Three years of drafts. Next year there are at least 3 players, maybe more, who will retire.

On Ports Mid field we have Butters Rozee and JHF as mentioned by the dipstick above.....but maybe forgotten Wines (only a Browmlow medalist) ,.....Drew.....Boak still racking up tons, Jase burgoyne is an up and coming champ.and Houston has an occasional midfield gallop....though I dont think we are going to go all the way, nevertheless our midfield is far from our weakness as the fool is suggesting.
