To Trent Dilfer's credit, when Billick told him on the sidelines to throw in the 4th quarter, Dilfer replied that they should keep the ball on the ground and let the defense win the game. A man's got to know his limitations.

@Gungho732 жыл бұрын
@Fries It's also important to remember that his ability to move in the pocket was severely damaged throughout his career, and he pushed it probably farther then it shouldve been with several surgeries during that time. His legs were shot is the kind way to say it and that does affect potential QB play. Even if they werent asking players to run around in a way todays many mobile QB's are, it assuredly limited what he could and couldnt do. Were it not for Namaths guarantee and his mental aptitude to realize the game plan should revolve around the ground game and not the air in the SB he definitely wouldn't be in Canton. I'm interested to see where you'd personally rank Billy Kilmer had he won his appearance. The guy was a winner with Washington but boy he threw an ugly football.
@Gungho732 жыл бұрын
@Fries Kilmer was probably known more for his ability to be beat to hell and keep playing then anything else. Kilmer was grabbed due to a belief those players could rally behind that kind of toughness. He was the classic "whatever it took" type of QB. If he needed to run he would. If he needed to get his nose broken for a win, he would. He was a teammates QB even if he wasn't a peoples QB and you may see that in some of the rare film from that era. That's hard to quanitfy with stats. Especially given he was the kind of guy who could win a 7-3 game that was ugly as hell and make it look good in the end. Regarding those teams, Washington was not known for typically a single major performer. They were built through veterans and eschewed the draft as their HC famously hated the draft because developing players was disrespectful to the time of those you have now. Hence why the teams of that time were known as "The Over The Hill Gang." Think of the Rams in our current timeline but a bit more aggressive with any picks not just blue chip level players with a greater focus on tenure then on top end talent. Whatever it was, it worked, bringing relevance to the Redskins for the first time in almost 3 decades. Kilmer was seen as a centerpiece of all that, for better and for worse. I don't think he will ever threaten for the Hall of Fame even with the ring, he's the type of player where he cant be confused with Griese who was masterful at managing the game, lethal when called upon. Nor could he have the athletic and proficient talents of a Tarkenton or the blistering arm talent of a Bradshaw. Kilmer was Kilmer, and the bluntest way I can say it that was enough to win in the league with those Redskins.

The guy was barely on the field the year he won his Super Bowl because he was on the depth chart behind an injured Jay Schroeder. Williams managed to produce an 0-2 record in his two starts that year, accounting for half the team's losses. Williams won his Super Bowl and was handed the keys to a Super Bowl-worthy team, only to have them tank below .500 the next year after he was injured and then replaced after the season by Rypien.

Nah, Grossman was FAR worse than both Kaepernick and even Collins. Kaepernick had a couple good years and was good as a runner; Collins at least had longevity. In fact, 2006 was Grossman's only full year as a starter, and the only other year he came close was 2011 when he started 13 for the Redskins. Honestly, if Peyton Manning hadn't lucked into facing the Bears in 2006, or being on an all-time great defensive team in the 2015 Broncos, he might've NEVER won a Superbowl. Imagine if he'd instead faced the Saints (lol) or Eagles in '06. The Colts only scored 27 in the Superbowl. The Saints and Eagles ACTUALLY HAD QUARTERBACKS. And as for 2015, while Peyton was an all-time great QB, 2015 was BY FAR his worst year other than MAYBE his rookie year. TL;DR Grossman was trash and without him and a great Bronco D, Peyton Manning may have been our era's Dan Marino.
@ogskywalker56695 жыл бұрын
Peyton wouldve won without that bronco defense tbh and as far as the 06 statement donovan mcnabb was a interception machine and the saints were on there first year with drew and sean drew wasnt even in his prime yet🤣🤣 both 10-6 teams neither of them had a defense like the number 1 defense at the time and number 1 team in the Nfl aswell 13-3 the chicago bears it wouldve been a fucking blowout if the eagles or saints were in the super bowl bob sanders was healthy that year so yeah the colts most definitely wouldve had it easy bud they were 12-4 and red hot the patriots and bears were the only 2 teams who were equal to the colts that year and dont forget the bears beat the saints by 25 points to get to the super bowl scored 39 points on them so pretty much NOBODY was beating manning in the super bowl that year😂

the stats don`t do Namath Justice, you clearly don`t know how different football was at that era.If you look at his seasons relative to his era there are some impressive ones.Not only did he play in a completely different era, but he was inducted in a different era (1985 ) side note : dude tossed 4,000 yards in one season and his yds per throws was very good www.footballperspective.com/joe-namath-has-become-footballs-most-misunderstood-quarterback/

People aren't taking in to account how many of these QBs don't have great stats because they were cold weather cities. You wind up with Turnovers if you get pass happy in bad weather no dome games. McMahon was good but he knew and played his role not hunted stats.

Do you have any idea how easy it is to have a good scoring defense when your offense gets you a good lead early and forces the opposing offense to abandon the running game? Also when you're special teams is fantastic and constantly forces the opposing offense to drive the entire field. Do you remember in 2011 when the Patriots defense was historically bad and had Edelman playing corner? Do you remember how Tom Brady won them that game but Welker decided to drop a ball? Guess not
@anthonyhutchins23005 жыл бұрын
You realize there's only been 7 teams to ever win the SB with a defense ranked below the top 10 right? Of those 7 teams were defenses with specialties. 2012 Ravens were ranked 12 but turned it on at the end of the season. The Saints in 09 were ranked 20 but they led the league in turnovers and defensive scores. Shall I continue?

Jim Plunkett was amazing I definitely disagree with your #1 pick!😡
@thecountenance35135 жыл бұрын
Saying that Jim Plunkett is the worst quarterback to win a Super Bowl is one of the most incompetent statements I myself have ever heard. Reason his stats are atrocious is simply because he played with total garbage for an entire decade before landing a spot on the Oakland Raiders roster. And when he played for the Oakland Raiders his stats show that he's a reliable quarterback and he consistently won the starting position over Mark Wilson who was much younger (sometimes due to injury). Also you forgot to mention Joe Namath who's thrown more interceptions than touchdowns and his overall record is 62-63-4 which for someone who is on the hall of fame is just terrible.
@Bill_Woo5 жыл бұрын
And conversely, one can be a legendary QB even though they didn't go to the dance. Too much is made of playoff wins and Rings. Dan Marino, Jim Kelly and Tony Romo were all amazing; yet a rather mediocre QB Bradshaw (he really was) gets the girls. Playoffs and rings aren't everything, though certain people make them out to be.

Interesting how Plunkett got his first Super Bowl win after Dan Pastorini got injured. After retiring from football, Pastorini would later drive a Top Fuel Dragster.

VMan29397 I was speaking purely on a year by year basis because your overall stats don’t factor into your play for one year. By that measure, Manning easily makes the list. If, for some reason, his career stats are factored into the only 19 or so games that factored into that super bowl, then that’s beyond me.
@1otonhammer385 жыл бұрын
I read an article a while back that basically laid out how Mannings career in Denver proves that SB wins by a Qb, actually means nothing at all. The first SB appearance he had the best season of any Qb. Ever. The Broncos were embarrassed badly. The second, he was benched during the regular season. And, didnt have a particularly good run through out the playoffs. The Broncos won. Decisively.

Once Eli hangs up his gear for goid,the question will be whether Eli has enough good stats to make the Hall of Fame. His brother Peyton is a guaranteed first ballot Hall of Famer, but Eli may take years to get in, if at all. Joe Namath gets looked over a lot when we talk about "Worst QB to win the Super Bowl" but as a whole, his career as a starter is pretty bad. He had two solid seasons for the Jets, and aside from that, his record as a starter is 41-56. He finished with a TD/INT ratio of 173/220...easily worse than Trent Dilfer, Jim Plunkett, Brad Johnson, etc.

Eli Manning should be on this list. He's an average QB wo got lucky twice while most get lucky just once. His career numbers are top of the NFL but those are due to his consistency with staying on he field playing games, not getting injured. He has a terrible td/int ratio and is just constantly proving he is not top tier despite his rings. He should absolutely not be a HOF simply because despite his resume he is a BAD PLAYER. Robert Horry has 6 NBA rings but no one is advertising him to be in the HOF because he wasn't the reason his teams won.
