As a speaker of Spanish, English, Swiss German, Galician, Asturian, and Catalan. I can say with total confidence that it sounds more Swiss German than Spanish or Catalan, but it flows like Galician.

LADIN or LADINS (whichs is the official name in Ladin itself and in English), not ladino or ladini please. Ladino is the Italian name and when used in English it just causes confusion with the Ladinos of Spain, who are a completely different group.

Ladino of Dolomites (Northern Italy, south Tirol), is NOT the same as spanish judeo in Spain

Ladins are located in the Trentino-ALTO ADIGE region and Veneto, not only in south Tirol. By the way south tirol in Italian is Alto Adige. How do I know? Because I am from that region.

Part 2: Examples: there is a lot of German vocabulary in badiot and gherdeina (20% of the original, not counting words newly created by language programming), the names of the traditional jobs are a simple example (paur, cramer, pinter, slosser, from Bauer, Kramer, Binder, Schlosser). Structure: the typical german combination of verb + adverb, like luvè sö, stè sö, dè sö, di sö from “aufstehen”, “aufgeben” y “aufsagen”. Phonetics: the very unique "r" sound of Gherdeina

No. It is not true. There are only a few "german" words. And they are ladinized. A different thing is that some people dont speak correct ladin and use some german or italian words instead of the ladin ones.

you're right, here in Friuli for example we speak Friulian wich is, actually, of the Ladin family and I can tell you we've got many german, slovenian, celtic words on a Latin structure.

ONCE AGAIN: DO NOT MAKE CONFUSION BETWEEN "LADINI LANGUAGE" THAT IN ENGLISH MEANS JUDAIC LANGUAGES OF HISTORICAL EBREW COMMUNITY IN SPAIN, AND "LADIN LANGUAGE" THAT MEANS A DOLOMITIC ROMANCE LANGUAGE SPOKEN IN ITALIAN SOUTH TYROL (GARDENA VALLEY) AND STRICTLY RELATED WITH SWISS-ROMANSH AND ITALIAN-FRIULAN !!!

P.S. Actually, it is wrong to say that Ladin is completely unrelated with German. For example in Val Badia almost 20% of the vocabulary is germanic, and part of the grammatical structure is akin to that of the neighbouring Tyrolean (German) dialects.

No. German has had no influence on ladin. .Ladin is 100% romance because the origin is 100% romance.The fact is that due to germanisation and italianization some ladins dont speak their language well and use italian words or german words instead of the ladin ones. But it doesnt mean ladin is a germanic language.It is like if italy conquered austria and germany and switzerland and inposed italian as the only official language and as a results ethnic germans spoke a bad german with lots of italian words. This would not make german a half romance language. And the germans would not be happy about it. They would want to regain independence ( in a NON violent way) and put remedy to the damage done by assinilation. They would put remedy to it by making standard german in its pure form as the only official language. So ladin valleys must belong to italy and italy must put remedy to the damage done by assimilation (italianization and germanisation). Of course italy must put remedy to it with non violent linguistic policies. Also the germanization of badiot and gherdeina is a very recent phenomenon that dates back to just 95 years ago wheb mussolini decided to give theese valleys to the province of bolzano. If it had not been recent why arent german words used in tue fassa valley? That valley also borders the german speakinf part of south tyrol. And the "venetan influences" on the varieties of fassa,ampezzo and fodom are not conparable. They are not due to assimilation. They exist because of the natural transition between two idioms of the same language family: ladin and venetan. In fact 2 non standardized idioms often have some degree of transition between one and the other. Gherdeina ladin and badiot ladin are not varieties of transition with german becude 2 languages of different families never have transition between them. The german words (both standard german and bavarian) in gherdeina ladin and badiot ladin are the equivalent of the italian words in the fassa ladin and in fodom ladin and in ampezzo ladin.

Lovely people. Tourism actually can also fasten the assimilation and language lose but I hope these people will stop leaving their land and preserve their nice pastoral culture.

Part 1: Dear Ettore, read my comments carefully, that was never my intention. Being a romance language of course the great part of its structure is romance, but some varieties show a great "Baiuvarian" influence (i.e. badiot and gherdeina; Fodom, Fascian and Ampezan are more influenced by Venetian and Trentino), resulting in a good amount of vocabulary and a few characteristics in structure and phonetics. So it is wrong to say that German has nothing to do with it. A little bit, but not nothing.

The language and people are called "Ladin" in English. "Ladino" is the same as "Judeo-Spanish", the language of Jews that were expelled from Spain during the Inquisition.

My Nonna was from Zoldo Alto in the Belluno Province of Veneto. are they Ladini? My Nonna and her family spoke a mixed Venetian/Ladin languauge.

No, the Belluno province is mainly Venetian dialect/Italian speaking, with the exception of three townships quoted in the video
