My son is a recently retired Night Stalker; I have followed him all over the World, and I have attended his graduation and retirement. I have had the honor of visiting the Unit, 160th Regiment, at Ft. Campbell, Ky. I, to this day, am stunned at what he has done and become. The proud feeling in my heart and soul is immense for my son. He served 22 years as An MH-60K Blackhawk Pilot, 13 tours to the Sand Pit and about. I am sure some of you Nightstalkers here know him very well. I will abstain from noting his name. Incredible Aviators, one and all, Support Team as well.

The first time I saw a Blackhawk helicopter, was when three of them landed in the ball fields in front of our barracks in Gelnhausen Germany, like ~1986. I was a tanker, but after I saw those helicopters land and take off, I desperately wanted to be a pilot. They are amazing.

Growing up in the early & mid 2000's my stepdad had a buddy that use to come over and hangout all the time. He was a pilot with the Night Stalkers. I always knew he was a total badass. He would disappear for a couple weeks at a time and then pop back up. Sometimes he'd say stuff like, well looks like I'll be gone for 2 weeks. Me being a little kid I always would ask him stuff and he'd never tell me. But he'd always say stuff like, where I'm going it's gonna be hot with allot of sand. Wish I could track him back down and talk to him some more.

For a nice fictional series about the Night Stalker’s check out the books written by M. L. Buchman. The first is titled “The Night is Mine” and there are seven in the series. He has several different series featuring these pilots and other military personnel involved in covert ops. He has a series about an autistic NTSB investigator who is called in on military crashes involving a variety of military aircraft. The first in that series is “Drone”. There is another about the Chinook. I’ve really enjoyed that series.

And in Iraq worked on AH-64A Apache attack helicopter for the 1/151Aviation Regiment I was in Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) in 1986 with 1st Battalion, 245th Aviation (Airborne) ... May 1990, the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne). @flaming sandshadow Hi, thank you for the comment and asking. 15P - Aviation Operations, Combat Arms. Focus about 70% on S3 Operations/Training functions of the job and 30% of the Flight Operations functions of the job. These are the two main functions of a 15P. If you want job satisfaction, faster promotions, and more awards then focus on S3. If you focus more on the flight ops portion you're going nowhere. It's not where I put my best 15Ps, but a good NCO to lead them. NSDQ! SGDM!

As a 15Fox Enlisted, I’m currently at Fort Eustis for AIT, and we have briefings set up specifically for those who want to submit a packet for 160th here. Keep in mind, what hasn’t been mentioned in this video is that those who get their packet accepted for 160th or for SOAR, they also have to go through SERE School. So for those considering it, it’s just something for you to think about.

Many packages were dropped off in places with names like Korat, Ubon, U-Tapao, and Don Muang, and Udorn. Yes there were lots of fixed wings there and quite a few rotor wings as well. We had a butter bar who would meet the choppers in coming with bottles of cognac that’s where I got my taste for Courvoisier. Dude may have been a coward in the rear with the gear but he had good taste.
