Who Brought What To The Cookout?

There's nothing like a family cookout. Every now and then, plus ones are allowed and every now and then, the plus ones bring a dish that rivals that of the family. We invited some "family" and some "plus ones" over for a Cocoa Butter cookout to see if they can guess which dishes were brought by the plus ones.

both are the same besides the different noodles used since macaroni is a type of pasta. there’s different ways to make macaroni/pasta salad and thats also where differences may lie to enhance the flavors of the different types of pasta whether its shells, rotini, penne, macaroni or elbow noodles.

The guy who made lemon pepper wings had a good idea but his execution was off. Marconi salad is traditional, and I could tell that the Caribbean girl having to guess that the salad had tuna and 'flavored mayonnaise' that she was not familiar with macaroni salad. My guess is she is thinking of other pasta salads, usually rainbow pasta is in the one which we use italian dressing. The macaroni salad was made correctly and looked good.

Yup. As soon as she mentioned the tri-color pasta I knew what she was thinking of. My mom makes a seafood salad using those noodles, but macaroni salad is different and the version they had actually looked really good!

Yea I’m Caribbean too and we usually make macaroni salad with rainbow salad but we don’t add any Italian or any dressing to it … we usually add seasoning, peppers 🫑, onions and Mayo and sometimes a dash of vinegar for taste ☺️

As a white person, I'm trying to not be offended, but saying "white people food is bland" is not really fair or nice. She simply hasn't run into people that cook like she likes it, but my family is from Europe like Denmark and Israel, we're very white, and I've made food passed down by my family for black/asian/hispanic/white friends and they loved it very much.

Maybe a passable hot dog or burger on the grill, but I’ve had plenty of different food from different cultures (blended family.) My white grandmother is the only white person I know that has thrown down in the kitchen. My white friends families, not so much. Had one white friend make me a sandwich. Good, great even, but how could you mess that up? Other one had his Afro-latina girlfriend teach him. I have no idea if my grandmother was even good before she got with my grandfather.

That macaroni salad looked perfect. You put spices and seasonings, chopped up hardboiled eggs, mayo, spicy mustard. I like to add chopped parsley, finely chopped onion and sometimes finely chopped celery after pulling off the strings for a little crunch. It's never white. As a Black person who cannot cook, I definitely would have been voted as a +1. 😭 I didn't even learn how to cook until I was 24 living in South Korea, so the only dishes that I cook well are Korean dishes, American breakfast foods and vegan dishes. Antoinette's dish made me drool! 🤤 It really looked like it tastes good! 😋 Especially the chicken. At first, I thought Antoinette was being very harsh on other people's dishes but then I realized she KNOWS how the good food are and she voted them with good and fair notes (based on hers perception and "experience" - paraphrasing Asher here 😄). Antoinette is funny, seems sure of herself and I loved her colorful hair. 💕 The plus ones were nice and you can tell that they are comfortable next to black people. They hold nothing back! Nice vid as usual. I know this is Cali (I'm from the Deep South), but to be honest, keep things simple for a cookout dish. The savory should be majority savory and sweet definitely sweet. Experiment flipping rarely go over well unless previously acknowledged as successful (nothing left from the last one & not in the trash). I agree with the winner, but intrigued by the Mac/pasta salad score. Run this back with a different group tho 👍🏿

I'm a +1. I would bring the potato salad with the mayo/mustard base that had onions, pickles, celery, and hard-boiled eggs in it. Come to think of it, that's kinda what my macaroni salad would look like as well. I stopped making baked beans for others...Brown sugar, maple syrup, onions, and bacon chunks DO belong in baked beans and I will not be told otherwise. Since it is a cookout, look for the thin bowl of pre-chilled food sitting in the disposable roasting pan full of ice...I like to fill tummies...not emergency rooms.

It's kind of like needing bacon bits for a dish later, so you fry up a bunch of extra bacon at breakfast and put it out on a plate to cool. An hour later what started as almost of pound of bacon is now about right for a small baked potato..

The problem here is the “cookout” is uniquely African American, no shade to other African cultures in the diaspora. The traditional menu is usually BBQ and other soul food dishes/desserts and that’s just that.
