Man, getting to pick ‘01 Bonds and still losing… that’s rough. A big surprise for me looking up guys was Phil Nevin hitting 41 HR for the ‘01 Padres at 3B… and THEN seeing that five of the top seven HR hitters in the NL that year were in the west (Bonds, Gonzalez, Helton, Green, and Nevin). That was quite a year for the division.

My weird pick was remembering from one Immaculate grid that Piazza has one late-career season with the Padres in ‘06 with 22 HRs which isn’t that bad considering no catcher since 2000 had a 30 season

I love these drafts and I’d love to see an international element to it somehow! Like, max 2 players per country of origin per team. It might be way too challenging, but it gives a chance for someone to flaunt Jamaicans Devon White and Chili Davis; Ha Seong Kim and Shin Soo Choo; the great curacaons like Andrew Jones, Andrelton Simmons, and Didi; etc.

Another great episode! I would probably do so poorly at this game cause for the most part, my knowledge of specific single season stats and in particular, exact HR totals, don’t go nearly as deep as these guys, so I love watching them pull really great names out of their brains. I figured maybe Piazza had a big year with the Dodgers but maybe I’m way off. Also thought about Headley and Reynolds but wouldn’t have known the best year possible. Plus, Reynolds played for so many different teams.

At the end naming the top at every position I immediately had to go back to the start. I missed the part where it said since 2000 and 70s Johnny Bench definitely had some 40 burgers for the NL West Reds. Also I’d absolutely kill this for the NL Central. As a Giants fan I am offended Rich Aurilia never comes up at short stop. 2001, 37 homeruns at short stop. Not really following other teams/players much since childhood Aurilia and Kent stood out as the power hitting middle infielding duo. They both tended to be ~20+ every year together. At least Kent made the list.
