Honestly Risk of Rain deserves a full OST livestream at some point, there's so many tracks and they're all excellent.

I think my favorite thing about the Risk of Rain 2 OST is seeing where Chris fits in the Risk of Rain motif (The collection of 4 descending notes from the original Risk of Rain), and it’s interesting to hear that some are tucked away into the background unless you were actively listening for it.
@NightshadeNate10 ай бұрын
There's even a few in the drums. Of course, not the melodic kind, but the counter-beat type rhythm is there sometimes. Among some that I've noticed, the best example of this is at 7:40 ish, you can hear the drum going "Tadah - tahdum", and I think it's a display of Chris's compositional skills
@midday-moonlight686710 ай бұрын
The notes of the risk of rain motif can also be ascending! (This is prominently featured in the main melody of Coalescence, as well as quite a few others)

I can't keep count of how many musician-reacts I have watched by now (of which like 80% are specifically Risk of Rain 2), but out of all of them, you are definitely my favorite. That being said!! I still have never ever seen a react video to The Raindrop That Fell to the Sky, which is - probably by far - the RoR 2 track that has moved and still moves me the most. I cannot keep it dry everytime I listen to the hauntingly beautifully lamenting synthesizer in that track. And, since you had the same reaction as I had at Bahamut's 'Ascension' theme as I had (I loved that video, it's the way I found you), I'm 99% sure that The Raindrop That Fell to the Sky will move you in big ways too. Now I know that you probably get a hundred song requests under every video, so I'm not expecting anything, but if you could ever make a video on that track, it would mean the world to me!
@kirbemb10 ай бұрын
Seconding this request! It is I believe the longest piece in the entire Risk of Rain series, but boy howdy is it an absolutely gorgeous listening experience. Easily in my top 3 for the sequel's ost.

I am in the same situation, i need a reaction from the track and it's surprizingly underrated asf. Marco, please check it out.

I can tell you exactly why Chris used Raindrop Prelude; ....It has "rain" in the title and that's kinda the whole naming convention of the RoR soundtrack.

Perhaps you won't see this, maybe you will. Whether you do or not isn't up to me, but if you do, I want you to know that music is beautiful. As such, interpreting it invokes a lot of emotions that might not usually occur. You are, without a doubt, the single best person for putting those emotions into words that I have ever seen. Thank you for taking the time to describe these art pieces as you do. It really means a lot.

I love how so much of Chris’ music in ROR forms such a strong visual, sense of environment and emotion, that never fails to put you in a certain mood. i’ve found personally, many of the tracks fill me with a melancholy and feeling of a kind of vast landscape, mirroring the seemingly hopelessness of the games story paired against magical alien vistas which can’t help but incite awe. For me, Who can fathom the soundless depths? is the most vividly bleak piece, a confusing existential horror of a place so beyond your understanding that you lay helpless, searching for answers where there are none. it ties so perfectly with the thematic of the void, so far removed for human understanding that you can’t help but question, who could ever fathom these soundless depths?

If I had to pick an "underrated" track from ROR2 it'd be this one. I listen to it regularly to relax! This was a great discussion because it just highlights everything so amazing with this rendition. Pitch bending? Yeah! Exotic rhythm? Yeah! Perfect synth timbre? Yeah! When you were saying that Chopin wrote this whilst looking out in rain, the way I translated that in my own mind was knowing how rain feels so heavy when it really pours down. If you've felt the weight of water on a tent, you would know that heaviness and that's exactly what this sounds like. Of course there's the obvious comparison of risk of rain loving any reference to rain but I think this song does a really good job showing a world being weathered and how that can be enlightening when your world seems dark and down. "When the coat that keeps me warm is holding itself together under the weight of a million raindrops. Perhaps being out in the cold rain isn't such a bad thing after all." (If you get what I mean by that.) Great video as always!

man those discordant rifts at 7:39 give me goosebumps each time i imagine a man fianilly coming to understand the depths, and then being driven mad by the revelation
@waterbottler276110 ай бұрын
I interpreted this piece as "confusion" like you said about introspection about why humans exist, or why we're doing what we are, or what's happening around us. But for the drop, to me it's almost like a wavering clarity, whether that clarity comes in the form of realising the answer doesn't matter yet it remains in the back of your head, possibly never to be answered, or clarity on the fact that what needs to be done needs to be done, but that lingering feeling of why remains in the back of your head. It's truly a wonderful piece.

I really love this song. This is the last song for the Survivors of the Void OST. The first song of the album is called Prelude in D flat major, and its also based on the Raindrop. So basically the first and last song are connected due to their osurce. Another relevant thing is how this song adds a new part to the original teardrop. Right at the end, Chris adds the rain motif (4 notes in descending order) as the last sounds of the OST. It#s like so satisfying. It's so well thought out how the song adds that closing statement to the album with just the rain motif. I love it so much,. The ending takes you back to the core ideas of Risk of Rain. For me, it is a feeling of "Hopeful Melancholy".

It's already been stated but yeah one of the main reasons Raindrop Prelude was used was the naming convention of the Risk of Rain OSTs. All of the songs have some relation in some way to water or rain. Something also that may not be touched on in this video is the "looping" theme that exists through the game and the soundtracks. The main idea of the game is to play stages and then loop back to the first stage and continue to gain power, until you can face the final boss. The beginning first track of this DLC album is the A section of the Prelude; then you have the rest of the album, leading finally to this track, which is the B section and completes the full Prelude. It finishes the "loop", bringing us back to the beginning. Chris also does this with the first and last tracks of the main RoR2 ost, "Through a Cloud, Darkly" and "Lacrimosum". It's absolutely brilliant work, and for all the praise he gets for his work, I don't think it's enough.

Your remarks about rain at 1:52 reminds me of max payne 2's main theme, which the game features rain as a constant element much in the same vein as you mentioned. Also i think the wavering in pitch is meant to represent obscurity in both visual and auditory mediums that is caused by the rain

PS, Chris did the soundtrack for a voice drama called "Gospels of the flood", that I would recommend anyone to listen in their free time. SIGNALIS' version hits me harder, but this version has that somber energy and that kinda continuous strobing feel that underlines a lot of the RoR2 songs and, for me, gives the game its vibe. It's a very good translation of the song to a new context.

I think "soundless" in this context means "immeasurable." Sounding was an old method of measuring ocean depths using graduated lengths of cord. "Soundless depth" is the nautical equivalent to "bottomless pit."

It’s always interesting seeing musicians use of adjectives. The word “bleak” is generally seen so negatively but in this case it is clearly n incredible aspect of the song. It’s like in sign language where they use descriptive words due to necessity so saying “that white fat lady over there” in asl is just the norm. Language and psychology studies are fun.😊

Most of Chopin's creations are sounding somber due to the fact, that Chopin was born in (back then) occupied Poland but lived his life in forced emigration in France, both him and most Polish artists at emigration harbored this "romantic" way of looking at country as and ideal that You strive to reach, yet inability to get to it caused severe melancholy in their art pieces
