The winner for me is all four as though Steve deserves the win they all won with how much nostalgia this bought me and just a lot of memories of this band I absolutely love to death. Can you do this again next time with life is a highway in AIC style alongside Jonathan Young, Dennis, Mac and Steve with Caleb Hyles as the judge? It would be amazing to see this turn into a series. Thank you for the nostalgia trip (though I’m 20 next year) and can’t wait for this to become a series

All the tracks had that AIC sound but for me Dennis' version was the best, an I want it that way/Angry chair hybrid. Maybe the final two had more musical theory and technical similarities to AIC's music but that first track stuck in my head and made me search for this vid again today, a couple of months since I first saw it. Kudos to all the guys for their tracks

I can't believe it Steve Welsh and Pauna are my two favorite KZbinrs when ut comes to mixing bands and songs! And you got them to be in the same video especially after all the time I was waiting for Welsh to repost!? THANK YOU!

You know what the best part of this vid was? How much all of the musicians looked like they were enjoying every version they heard. It didn't matter that they were in a "competition" they just enjoyed hearing some good music.

This was fantastic! I'm hoping that this concept of 4 musicians taking a song, doing it in another artist's style and having a judge pick the winner will continue. The possibilities are endless! Kudos to all involved.

Each of you were brilliant!! But Steve did kinda become Jerry and Layne. Mad props to all of you. The acoustic rendition was inspired!

All extremely impressive, but had I been the judge, my vote would've gone to Mac MacGlocky.... I don't know why that version resonated so much for me.... the haunting melody through it all, it's like Layne letting us hear his voice one last time and that he was aware of it. Extremely haunting, melodic and a beautiful kind of sad....

This was awesome, this feels like it could be a new series. I'd love to see what different artists do to turn unrelated songs into the styles of Sabbath, Zeppelin, Queen, etc.

Yeah, I gotta say, everyone was excellent, but I think my favorite was the acoustic take. It brought back all those memories of 90s unplugged versions by grunge bands. I thought Anthony's was so tight too. The low harmonies at 11:14 actual gave me chills remembering the first time I heard Alice N' Chains.
@Vivi_92 жыл бұрын
Dude I just commented the same thing, those vocals and the harmony legit sound like it's Layne himself singing.

Mac's rendition KILLED That drawn out "why" absolutely brought it all together

This is insanely good. And honestly, all are best depending on my mood. I've been vibing to Jar of Flies lately, so Mac's rendition immediately kicked in as leader. But then Steve's perfect fusion of the Dirt/Facelift sound that got me into AIC to begin with really hit home. This whole upload is going on repeat for a while.

I agree 100% that was the same order I had. What Steve had that no other had is that powerful voice Layne had in Facelift and Dirt as well as nailing the harmonies. It comes to that because musically you guys all nailed it.
@kevinramsey4172 жыл бұрын
All of them nailed it, but I've got to give the win to Steve with Anthony coming in at a very, very close second.

Steve Welsh is such a beast... IMO, while all we're great, Steve's showed the deepest understanding of the vibe, composition and musicality of AiC
@jonraquet66292 жыл бұрын
I don't know what harmonies Layne and Jerry would normally do in terms of intervals, but they always had a very distinct sound that I don't think I've heard anyone else do the same way. All four of you guys nailed those harmonies, which is always what I think of when I think of Alice in Chains. Fantastic job!

They did a lot of perfect 4ths
@zachw25382 жыл бұрын
@@darangatang2804 so yes, but they're treated as inverted fifths contextually
@Dagnus2842 жыл бұрын
@@zachw2538 really? I’ve always been confused about how they randomly “discovered” the power of perfect 4th harmonies after centuries of music being played. Makes a lot more sense that they’re actually 5ths…. Very interesting

@Daniel Winschel maybe the purity of the Seattle scene and the support from the other musicians there while also pushing innovation in such a creative ground breaking environment
@zachw25382 жыл бұрын
@@Dagnus284 yeah, it really all depends on context, composers do use fourths but the tonality and functionality is different from inverted fifths and sounds different in its musical context.

This is wild! Denis went Dirt, Mac went Jar of Flies, Steve went Facelift, and though Anthony kinda went an Angry Chair route I just feel like sonically it's more post-Layne Black Gives Way To Blue and onward! Absolutely incredible! Personally, Jar of Flies is my favorite Alice in Chains album so I'm going with Mac, but everyone did a fantastic job here, as a big Alice in Chains fan, this was so much fun to watch! Honestly I thought the guest judge was gonna be Jerry but can't have it all I guess haha
@scedge Жыл бұрын
This was my placing for them: 1. Steve, 2. Mac, 3. Denis, 4. Anthony. Like Jonathan said, you could recognize it as AIC immediately with Steve's version. Mac's nailed the Unplugged vibe. Denis seemed a little thin on the style like it was just the original BSB's chords with distortion and tuned down a half step. Anthony's suffered from too many effects on the vocals, but the chords were cool.

Sorry, Anthony, I haven’t heard yours yet, but I can’t imagine anything topping what Steve just did.
