Closing comments are spot on. A baseball pitcher rarely throws a no-hitter without being bailed out on a fly ball. Nico needs some help from the O-line and receivers. Play calling is fine, but I'd like to see some receiver stacks, outside option runs, and qb designed runs to keep defenses honest against our usual spread offense and runs up the middle.
@coop1osrs29 күн бұрын

Love the content. I think that for me personally it’s hard to watch all the good we have, get offset by the one thing that no one thought would be a concern. I thought Dylan Sampson would be great this season, but I had no idea how good he’d be. I knew the D-line would be deep, but they are playing lights out. The rest of the D was a big question mark, and all those players have stepped up. And the really frustrating part is that if you fix the passing game, all of those other areas are complimented as well.

They may not have completely figured out how to stop it, but they have figured our different ways to confuse Nico with their coverage and pressure package. All it takes is one person to make a play, but on offense all it takes is one person to NOT make a play. A slow block, missed chip, blocking air, misreading a blitz. We are growing and learning, but defenses appear to be throwing new schemes every play as well. We will figure it out, and if Nico can string a couple of plays and series together, get his confidence and swagger back, we will do great things!

It is most definitely execution. The big plays have been there. They just aren't being completed. Missed reads, slightly off target, dropped balls, missed assignments, bad clock management, etc, etc. There's enough blame to go around that it just simply goes back to blaming overall execution. I'm still confident that this team can hit their stride down the stretch in the second half of the season. Which is when you want to be playing your best football. Simply put, we're 5-1 and haven't played our best ball yet. Everything is in front of this team. Backs are against the wall and that's when CJH's teams seam to play their best. I still believe!

I saw a former college lineman break down the offense. He showed how the defense is not respecting the receivers and crowding the box. This allowed more pressure on the run. then the o line can’t keep the d-line out of the pocket which seems to be causing nico to hurry and his fundamentals to break down, even when the pocket is pretty clean, which is causing slightly missed passes. Luckily our rbs are good enough to break a few.

You want my opinion? I think we all bought into the hype early and believed they were better than they really are. Yeah they're loaded with talent. But Nico is still very young. He looked like a veteran against lesser teams but up against SEC teams we're seeing that youth and inexperience. It's not the play calling, it's not the system, it's the fact that EVERYONE expected too much from a freshman QB; Including his teammates and maybe even his coaches. But the good news is he will get there. He will develop. Because that's what QBs do under Heupel. Tennessee is going to be fine . They may not be champions this year. But they will win one soon.

I would not say play calling sucks but we need to try more sweeps and be more creative in the play calling. When you miss a guy whose open, well, guess what, you still have to keep changing up the plays lol. That doesn't stop with an incompletion. Running on 3rd and long, 3rd and long, 3rd long and up the middle. That will get old pretty quick and we do need to threw more on 1st downs. Not just one to start the game. But overall, must go temoo otherwise our offense is pretty much the same. Scoring points has to be the main thing this offense does and so the tempo makes that 50% more possible if not more. If Nico isn't hitting those guys, there might be another reaosn he's not. Must find out what that it and either address by adjusting it, or coming up with a different play scheme.

We’ve gotta start rolling Nico out of the pocket more, & implementing some more RPO plays into the scheme for the time being, & calling the occasional quick slant to pickup a fast 6-8 yards when we’re in need of it. The Offense is close, we just need a little bit more from this Oline so Nico isn’t running for his life every other play and causing that mental clock to speed up, to where he can’t even make it through his reads before having to tuck the ball & try to avoid turning it over.

High expectations get them rattled? Okay we'll just act like Kentucky and assume mediocrity every year. This is the SEC and we are one of its founding members.These lofty expectations will never and should never go away. Go tell that BS to a Nick Saban Bama team abd see if it gets them rattled. Nico and Heard both nedd to toughen the hell up and Heupel needs to at least fake having confidence in Nico throwing the ball instead of running the hall up the middle on third and long. That's a morale hit yo us as fans so you damn well know the players on our offense likely feel that way as well. Not sure if you watched in the 90s but the expectations then were at an all time high. We all agree that the players on offense are not making enough plays to sustain drives and that accounts for a lot of the stalled offensive production the past 3 games. However, there is PLENTY of blame to go around for the coaching staff, too. Way too many times, Coach Heupel gets uber, mega conservative...to the point he is conceding drives on 3rd downs by calling a run play up the middle on 3rd and longs. You CANNOT blame that crap on players and fans! He is too scared to call a pass play on clear passing downs!!! On 3rd and 7 or 3rd and 10, calling a running play = punt. It's a passing down because every team knows that passing is the HIGHER PERCENTAGE PLAY than a run play. My point is to say that Coach Heupel is a mixed bag. He's done a lot of good, but he has flaws too, and I hope he makes a fundamental shift in his coaching philosophy...to get rid of the Phil Fulmer conservative coaching habits.

Play calling is an issue when you see the OL struggling. Where are the in game adjustments??? Where are the quick outs? More RPOs are needed. Like can we get a running back screen once or twice a game. Where are the Ethan Davis plays? Where is Cam Seldon & Peyton Lewis to help blocking & runs? Why does Nico have to fake hand offs when he has designed runs when there are runs he could get a direct snap & follow a RB lead block? What happened to the shuttle pass? Yes we haven't executed on offense & that's it's own issue but as a offensive coordinator or head coach you have to recognize that & call plays that will get the team pass the sticks despite adversity. Lack of 1st downs equals a tired defense & a probable loss. #
