Who Could The San Jose Sharks Turn To For Additional Goalie Help?

IMO the Sharks should go after Askarov for various reasons. 1) He will immediately become their top goalie prospect and rank among their top ten prospects in their prospect pool. 2) He will round out their prospect to now only needing a top pair RD prospect. 3) He will be the insurance goalie needed in case one of the two goalies the Sharks currently have are injured (which has happened to both over the last two seasons). 4) Askarov is ready to make the jump to the NHL. Look at his stats and it is clear he should be making the jump to the NHL this season or at latest next as a backup. 5) Askarov provides stability and winning for the Cuda. As the Sharks prospects start to fill out more of the Cuda roster they need a goalie that can win now and Askarov provides that. Check his stats in the AHL. Every podcaster practically has complained the Cuda need a winning environment. Well, he will definitely help provide that. 6) Our Cuda goalies are not ready to make the jump and will not be ready for some time yet. 7) None of the two goalies in the Cuda are projected as starters in the NHL. We will be fortunate if they can be backups. 8) It provides flexibility to GMMG. GMMG can move one of the two goalies at the trade deadline to acquire assets and have Askarov debut later in the year providing more development time for the current Cuda goalies. 9) Askarov fits the Sharks timeline to compete for a cup and will mature with our young players forming part of the nucleas of a contender (much like the Penguins had when they got Crosby and company). 10) He will not cost a ton for now and provide immediate cap flexibility so GMMG can add more pieces next offseason to improve the team. 11) It means that GMMG can concentrate on getting the first pair RD with next season's draft and add more pieces to the defense/forwards prospect tool. 12) It provides stability at a position which the Sharks have not had in nearly a decade. 13) Because IMO he will be a top five goalie in the near future. I could list a couple more reasons but these should suffice. What matters in getting Askarov is results. He is an elite for a goalie of his experience level in the NHL and has been in every league he has played in. He is a winner and that is what the Sharks need. Unless the price is too high, I am hoping GMMG goes out and gets him.

A solid goalie is the difference between holding a win and giving up a comeback goal. Chrona looked real nice. I really wish we went in on that Linus Ullmark trade

What about trying to get Filip Gustavsson from the wild. Him with Blackwood could be a solid tandem.

Getting a 3rd goalie is pretty important in my opinion, just because I think winning games is pretty important for the Cuda. I don’t want Cardwell and Bystedt leading a team that is scoring over 3 goals a game but also not in the playoffs

Sharks should see what it would cost to get Tarasov from CBJ. Looked pretty good last year considering the team he was on....(1st rd. 2025 Vegas pick., SJS 2nd rd pick 2027, Zetterland, Ferraro, Bordeleau should be available to trade, and try thrown in Vanecek). Could also see if the Kraken would be willing to part with Dacccord. They seemed to prefer Grubauer last year when he wasn't hurt. Sharks need another top-5 pick and a couple more top-10's and the team should be set. D and G should be the priority, in the 1st and 2nd rounds at least, so maybe wait a year or two and then try to upgrade goaltending and defense. Definitely don't want to rush the rebuild, look at the Kings, they are quite a mess, esp at Goal and haven't looked great in the playoffs.

It’s interesting that our management is sleeping on with Makiniemi. I think he’s a solid goalie and I would definitely try to give him more games in the NHL and see what’s in him. He looked solid in those 2 games in 22/23 szn. It would be pitty if we let him go just like that.considering his contract ended this year.

His lack of being on ice due to injury and illness is probably the major reason he was not resigned. He only played in 18 games with the Barracuda.

Swayman offer sheet? A guy like that almost never is available… I think our priority is over the next 5 years keep bolstering the blue line with upgrades. Obviously even Sway (or a very stellar Blackie last year) can get lit 🔥 up if the D-core is leaky. To me a Stanley Cup is a solid 3rd-line, big & solid D-core and a hot goalie!

Mike grier should go after yaroslav askarov from NSH. We have the ammo to acquire him. VGK 1st round pick, ferraro, bordeleau, and bystedt for askarov? Maybe too much but id do it

Hell no, don't overspend that much for a goalie. You rarely get a goalie for a 1st, let alone a pick that could be a high pick, and let alone for a young goalie that's unproven. If the Vegas pick isn't enough for Askarov, I would spend much more. I'd keep the pick for a top goalie this year

Do you know of any actual high rated goalies this year? I mean of the fluery, wellstedt, askarov caliber during their draft years. If there really is someone like that this coming draft then i hear you with the VGK pick but i dont know of any. And also when does a 20yr old goalie of this caliber become available? And btw look at the sharks history of drafting goalies they are really bad at it. It might be overpaying but ill take the 20yr old number 1 goalie to build and grow with this team instead of future 3rd and 4th line players in bystedt and bordeleau. And if he really became that number 1 goalie like he’s projected to be everyone would love the trade looking back on it

Ravensbergen is already looking like a top 20 draft pick this year (Elite prospect has him at 23 if I remember) and considering we're still really early in it, it's high praised for sure. I'd keep an eye on him 100%. There's also Ivankovic that's atm that's also really highly seen but a much smaller frame 2 other name to keep an eye on this year would be Russian goalie Frolov, and Canadian goalie D'aigle. But Ravensbergen is the top goalie that's looking like a top 20 pick so far, another Vancouver born like Celebrini, 6'4 and playing for the Prince George Cougars in the WHL

Nice! i like the sound of Ravensbergen 🔥 and could definitely be an option with that VGK pick im 100% on board with that. Im good off the smaller frame goalies. Im still all in for Askarov no question about it and i would still do that trade forsure. Either way its very clear the sharks long term goalie issue needs to be addressed. And btw i am not a believer in makiniemi, chrona, or romanov and i doubt the goalies we drafted will be anything. I wanted kiviharju and misa over both those goalies we picked
