12:05 It should BE ANALYZED: ... bxc(3); the THREAT of CROWNING is so Powerful that it Negates White the possibility of the Knight Forking the Black King and Rook via e8, because after the Check, Black King moves (for example, toward the Knight: Kf8), then if the Knight takes the Black Rook in c7, then the pawn advances to c2 and CROWNS as a QUEEN in the next move, as the White Rook cannot move back to b1, because of cxb1!
@adithiankaruvannur6990

It can be countered with Rbc6, I think. And the rook will end up trading one rook, and gobbling the other 2 pawns before it can promote

Capa style has ruffed many feathers thru the years cause the romantic chess was dying and Capa is the one who did the mercy killing. My thoughts was this, Nxb4, Cxbd then rook x b4. Thus protecting the pawn on c4 and then could advance the pawn to to a4

At 11:28, why not capture with the knight on b4 to create a passed pawn? Couldn't black put up something of a defense there?
@bwill325
@bwill325 5 жыл бұрын
wait? the final position in the game, isnt black winning? if you capture with the b4 pawn, then if white captures the castle you push the pawn for a queen and it cant be stopped no? the pawn takes control of the b1 and d1, no piece would be in time to stop it
@tremapar
@tremapar 5 жыл бұрын
Would seem so on first glance, but if black tries to push the pawn, white can capture on b8, then has a forced mate sequence. Black pushes pawn again, white goes to g8 with check. Then g2 pawn can come up and finish mate, doesn't matter there will be a new queen. In general, this results from Capablanca's beautiful position. Near the black king, the white knight and pawn control g5 and h5. So getting a rook back there behind the king means death for black.

What about if at 12:05 instead of black pawn b4-b3 takes the white pawn at c3? I think Black can make a Queen or at least can save the rook (at b7 if white rook go to a6 to save the queen birth at a1 then) and give a big help to his pawn (if pawn moves at c2 and white rook at a1, then black rook at b1!)

at the ending position why not to bring forward the b4 pawn to c3? it seems that even with the loss of two rooks he can get a queen against an awfully exposed king in the back ranks. if he could use that to take at least a rook from a fork or trade the other pawn, then it is not a lost game.
@Ithinkthisisaman
@Ithinkthisisaman 5 жыл бұрын
Being down 2 pieces is bad (also I saw a lot of games where 2 rooks > a queen in an endgame like that) and if pawn g2 --> g5 it's an easy checkmate too from the 8th rank.

7:06 Why bishop didn't go back to g4 attacking the rook? Now pawn cannot block bishop & as it's already forwarded right?
@edp7476
@edp7476 5 жыл бұрын
True, I wondered the same thing and was surprised it wasn't covered. White would probably have to move the rook since blocking with the bishop looks like a bad option. I'm guessing white would play Rf1 and black then moves the bishop back to avoid getting trapped. Of course, if white wants, he can move the rook back to d1. But it's unclear to me how it would play out. White would not want to trade bishops or draw by 3x repeat rule.

I have a doubt, if Hodges played c3 sacrificing the rook on b8, the pawn would have been promoted to queen there was no stopping. Of course he couldn't have won but maybe a perpetual he could have saved the game. And might have won if capablanca panicked.
@AkumaAPN
@AkumaAPN 5 жыл бұрын
I was thinking about this too, but I do not think it was possible. If black captures on c3, white can respond with King to e3. If black continues to push, King can come to d2 and prevent Promotion. Black cannot use the Rook to take away the D File, because white's Knight is covering d7. Also, without the Rook Exchange, white's other Rook still guards D. And if Black initiates the Exchange, the King is still too close. Basically, the King is too close, and there's no stopping him! Since Promotion was not possible, the difference in material was too much. Black's King is too far from the action, White's King is ready to help, and the remaining Black Rook will not be able to do much against the other pieces. One last thought, if black pawn captures at c3, and white King comes to e3, black could abandon the passed pawn, and move Rook B to c8, to temporarily avoid any further exchanges. But being down a whole piece, white will eventually be able to trade down. Black has no future here.

@edp7476 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I see what you mean. I want to know what white would play if black played Ra8.
@Ithinkthisisaman
@Ithinkthisisaman 5 жыл бұрын
@@edp7476 Well I think after ra8 --> knight d5. Black can't even move the knight if he decides to bust open b4 with pushing b5, because the knight can recapture at the end. On the other hand after ra8 and knight d5, black's knight can't go to c7 because both white's knight and rook controls it. So let's say black plays something else, h6, then white simply plays knight b6 kicks the rook from a8 away let's say to b8, and then simply white plays knight c8, black rc7, white ra6, black rc7-->c8, white ra5. After that white's goal is to move the rook from d6 to b1 and push a3 or something. and then pile up on the last pawn with the help of the king and push it to a glorious victory.
@edp7476
@edp7476 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, Nd5 should win for white. It will still be a long fight, and worth noting that black can indeed save his knight, but will lose a pawn and ultimately the game. I also looked at another line. After white Nd5, black could play Nb1, but then white Rb6 would win in a similar fashion because black still loses a pawn.

@somewhere6
@somewhere6 5 жыл бұрын
White will play RxR in reply to bxc3. If Black then continues pushing that pawn, white then has R-N8ch and a forced mate follows shortly, If in reply to RxR, Black tries any move other than pushing the pawn, the mating sequence still follows or white can simply retreat a rook to stop the pawn. Black cannot allow RxR, therefore moving or capturing with the b pawn is to lose very quickly. The position is hopeless.
