'Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World' was a great film and had 10 Oscar nomination (winning 2, Cinematography and Sound Editing), but unfortunately it came out in 2003 (November) and was hugely overshadowed by a little once in a lifetime film named Lord Of The Ring Return Of The King in both box office and award season.

Both fantastic films, though. Master and Commander is perfect with a surround sound system, the audio engineering in it is bonkers good.

@@aegresen I agree, in any other year Master and Commander would have swept in the Oscars and won in all categories, LOTR deserved all those Oscars (I Love those movies rewatched the extended editions unhealthy number of times) but it a little sad that those wins were in expense of Master and Commander, I really wished that M&C was released in different year so it could have the recognition the movie deserved.

My dad has the books, but they get very technical and the author also gets bogged down in some pretty obscure details. It's one of the rare instances where the film is better than the book(s).
