My mom was just 60 when our dad passed from Leukemia, mom lived another 32 years, keeping close and busy with 2 grown daughters and her grandchildren through the next year's. I think when someone has family close by to get them up and out, to keep them physically and emotionally engaged it makes a difference. My mom's sister lived to a month shy of 101, she outlived her husband by 18 years.

I just wanted to give you both a huge thank you for all the hard work that you do. Growing up, my parents would always check in the paper for the obituaries. I thought it was weird and couldn't really understand why. Today, newspapers are almost obsolete and Facebook seems to be the obituary for those we knew casually or personally. The problem with Facebook is that you have to randomly find out the hard way by visiting an old friend's page and seeing it is now a memorial page, or catch someone's post by chance a year or two after the fact. It's heartbreaking, really. I have tried to keep up with most of your posts and also know I can go back later if I missed a few. I never realized how much it can really knock you for a loop seeing so many faces you grew up with from television and the news pass away. It is also interesting learning about people I had never heard of. Sadly, it is also a reminder of our own mortality. Some people may see it as a reason to celebrate each moment. Alternatively, some may start to worry. Either way, it is information for the books. I am glad you take your time to do it. Happy New Year! 💖💖💖

Outside of notable locals, I have to go online to find out who’s passed away. The local newspaper, like many; is a shadow of itself. It costs $400 just to put an Obituary into print, & the relatively new (20 years) newspaper building was just torn down for a new development.
@saralynn51818 күн бұрын
@@jamessimms415 $400? Do we live in 1454 (printing press up and running)? I used to deliver the newspaper when I was a kid. I did it for about 6-7 years too. The dark ink that would make my hands feel slippery after a while, the slightly acrid scent that would stay on my "delivery clothes". A twenty-year-old building is just getting started! What a waste of money and labor! When will people get that we can't waste resources like this? That's a different convo.

Rickey Henderson was tough for me. He was such an exciting player, not just as a base stealer, but also as a leadoff hitter with power. I saw him play in person many times, but my “favorite” time was a game in Baltimore when the A’s were at the Orioles. As I was settling into my seat at the start of the game, Rickey was at bat and just when my butt hit the seat he got tossed for arguing a strike call. So I didn’t see him play much but I got to see his fiery side.
