Daki was his pride and that's what made him lose. Still Muzan is wrong saying that Gyutaro would win from the start. If it weren't for Daki hindering Zenitsu, Inosuke and Tanjiro, Gyutaro would've died wayy earlier since he already had a hard time fighting Tengen and Tanjiro even with help from Daki.

I don’t think Muzan respected anyone, but I would say that he definitely favored some of his pawns. Akaza, in particular. Honestly, I think the creator of Kimetsu no Yaiba also favored Upper Three of all the bad demons. Not only did Muzan seek Akaza out to personally turn him into a demon with the sole intent of his Kizuki, but Upper Three was also the only demon Muzan reached out to in an attempt to deter his death. Moreover, is it only me, or does Akaza seem to have more appearances than any of the other bad demons? And his backstory & death is just so damn sad. All of this makes me ponder the writer's perspective when she created his character. Also, the way Akaza basically begged Rengoku to save himself after punching a hole through him was entirely too weird, coming from a bad demon.
