The part about Zverevs forehand is so interesting and so well explained! Many people tend to overlook how good his forehand can be, because as you said, it is not the flashy or cracking stroke, but he can certainly blast winners and love his forehand down the line.

Always love the videos about tennis insights. It’s fascinating to see the metrics they use. I was a little surprised at seeing Zverev kinda low in backhand RPM+MPH. Sinner/Alcaraz were well above him while Zverev was around Fritz/Djokovic. I always thought of Zverev as the type to hit a hard rally ball off the BH, and figured that of the top 10 he is probably the most likely to attack with the BH on a +1 off the serve, whereas Sinner/Alcaraz/Djokovic/Fritz all have reliably damaging forehands to go off of.

Grigor's topspin backhand gets an advantage in the stats because he only hits it when he's in a great position to hit it. He doesn't really use it on the stretch because he just uses his slice most of the time.

I'll take a ton of stock from this video absolutely great insightful content but one thing for sure i wont take away is Casper ruud having a top 10 backhand its understandable why it could be but i also think it demonstrates the fine margin of error of the technology at the same time i mean hurkacz (tommy paul, de minaur also by a lot) has a better backhand than ruud i dont think either player would deny it. The best tennis content out here though, thanks Gil!
@juedionne9257 күн бұрын
Sorry, but I don't think technology made I mistake for Ruud's backhand🤣! You are just another one enguled in the past... maybe it was the weakness of Ruud, but since 2022 he improve it a lot (no choice everyone was targetting that side).... his backhand is a serious shot... BUT not an offensive shot so it's vulnerable, and he did lack of confidence about it ! But it didn't take away the quality of the shot. This year is a proof, he was really using it and it was really efficient, on clay it was more than solid ! So imagine if he find a way to make the backhand more deep in the court on hardcourt and find confidence in the shots... 😳. Watching him play at the United Cup last week, and he start the year strong ! He did beat Hurcacz in straight sets, firing forehand AND backhand all match long !
@ippolit42627 күн бұрын
@juedionne925 hurkacz has regressed since last year with injuries and you're delusional if you think Ruud has a better backhand than either De Minaur or Tommy Paul. He'd even admit that
@juedionne9252 күн бұрын
@@ippolit4262 Casper always self-deprecating himself... so of course he will say that... and he has not really confidence in this shot, even if it's a good shot. So it has certainly an impact when you doubt about the shot ! The backhand has definitely improved a lot this year (there is even an article on the ATP website about Casper's backhand down the line improvement) !

These stats can't be the reference cuz they're constantly changing once in a while based on players work on the court. For example Rublev's forehand is much better than this to be under Musseti. It's just about his season with many ups and downs this year.

It was until 2023... when Fils came on Tour (In 2022 Casper end the year with the best forehand with 8.5 for shot quality). But Casper's forehand is more deadly because it's more reliable and less errors with it. Fils problem is that it's fast... but really often off the court !

This confirms that people that believe the one hander is inferior are sheep. It's not the stroke but rather it's the coaches that cannot teach it, the players that caonnot utilize it and the tennis parents who have first level thinking.
