Who Is Aafia Siddiqui? Synagogue Attack Renews Focus on Pakistani Neuroscientist Imprisoned in Texas

During Saturday’s synagogue attack in Colleyville, Texas, the gunman Malik Faisal Akram repeatedly called for the release of Pakistani neuroscientist Aafia Siddiqui, who is serving an 86-year sentence in a U.S. federal prison located just miles from the synagogue. Siddiqui was convicted in 2010 on charges that she intended to kill U.S. military officers while being detained in Afghanistan two years earlier. However, many questions remain unanswered about her time in U.S. custody, and her conviction was secured without physical evidence and on U.S. officials’ testimony alone, says Siddiqui’s lawyer, Marwa Elbially. Elbially says there’s a false impression of Siddiqui in the U.S. as a terrorist, even though terrorist charges were never brought against her, and Pakistan officials have voiced concern about her arrest and detention. We also speak with Mauri’ Saalakhan, director of operations for The Aafia Foundation, who calls Siddiqui’s case an unprecedented miscarriage of justice.

The whole case against her reeks of BS. She is doing 86 YEARS for shooting at, but not hitting, some FBI agents. And the case against her is flimsy. So why 86 yrs? That makes no sense to me. Knowing how underhanded our government is I am willing to bet that an overzealous FBI agent, who had a dislike of Muslims to begin with, shot her for not answering his questions. The interrogators quickly realized their error and made up a stupid story of one agent laying his weapon down by the curtain and her grabbing it. (Why would he lay down his weapon on the ground? Makes no sense.) They then sent her to secret prisons for 5 yrs where she was tortured. Our government probably just wants this case to go away. Now I know some will read this & just say, "You're just speculating on what happened!" True. But the US has a history of doing shit like this.

Absolutely. If a cop won't even be CHARGED for acts that are undeniably murder and other instances were life was unrightfully taken, then she should not be in prison for longer than most people's expected lifetimes for doing something far, far less serious. I hate that it took an antisemetic terrorist attack to bring her issue to the attention of the public, but I hope that another bright side to no captives' lives being lost in the attack is that Siddiqui gets justice.

@@alexathecanadianconvert instead of having to state the mantra of 'we condemn' which is just bullshit they have to state, the media should realize they caused this, as there is no other method to shed light upon such atrocity and injustice, and in honesty, why should they have to state such if it were not for fear of being attacked themselves through misconstrued bullshit? After all, supporting justice and truth and reporting the news of others actions should not involve having to spout such, except in a dishonest, accusatory society which utilizes witch hunts and other religious mob tools, to turn us from truth and justice to the pursuit of witches and evermore injustice and obfuscation. As far the hostages go, fuck them and their religion, why should the bullshit of any religion make them special? If they don't dig what happened, they should stand for justice, human rights, and accountability of the governments and agencies and individuals who commit massive crimes against humanity, starting with Israel and the US. Religion should not be a shield to excuse such crime, nor an excuse to commit more. The Religion's are all demonstrably and obviously superstitious horseshit for dishonest, greedy, and or low IQ people to be controlled, and manipulated and disenfranchised by swindlers, con artist who hold positions of power in the various institution and are at least as dishonest as the fuckers they steal from, who all of them willingly indoctrinate their own children into the patently dishonest system of insane inane "beliefs". Tell them to kill each other and they will do it to prove their allegiance to the lies. I have zero respect for any religion or it's followers. They are weak minded and or strongly dishonest people. Fuck them, for their evil ignorance and dishonesty which they seek constantly to enforce upon us all. Our FBI and such caused all this to happen by commiting and supporting such injustice and crimes. I applaud anyone who stands in any manner of action against such powerful and destructively fearsome evil. The hostages are just douchebags practicing the douchbaggery. They are not contributing to fight the true evil, but are complicit. The US could not commit such heinous crumbs against humidity without their complicity.

@@jonathantan2469 I don't give a fuck about their religion, I fear and despise all religion as the tool of evil. I see the great danger to myself and all of us from the fascists authoritarian US agencies which foment disinformation, extreme violence, absolute tyranny, hate and division throughout our society and the world. The Religion's are powerful tools for such violence though, as religion replaces truth, freedom and honest understanding with enforced lies, mantras and rituals, superstition, fear, tyranny and division, and is a tool of every evil, and always have been. I see this event as a problem for all of us, and thus their religions as well, as they are always used to manipulate narrative and focus. Our society has allowed it's government to be purchased and it's agencies controlled by mercenary psychopaths, who utilize all means to foment these events or even create them, and then profit and empower themselves from such at the expense of all humanity. I really shouldn't give a fuck, I got no kids that I know of, and I know I'll never really breathe free in few decades I may have left, but I would like to at least be able to live those out without the fucking gestapo blowing my door off, killing my dog and abducting me for endless torture. Living without such fear would be nice. I cannot expect to do so if others must live in such, because they eventually will ursurp more authority and require identification of more victims. It's not okay let such blatant injustice and crimes against humanity ride simply because of our 911 fiasco, and various "wars" or any excuse whatsoever. They always got excuses, and are always manufacturing more, because we have allowed such to go on, and pretend it's somehow necessary and proper, with bullshit equivocations and controlled dialog whatnot. It makes me feel sick realizing the extent that the US has become the defacto "Evil Empire" of the World. Purveyors and enforcers, profiting off every possible misery and destruction, spreading fear and willful ignorance, slavery of our minds themselves.
