You have to make an update. Besides Misty and Serena, Lillie became also very close to Ash. Even if there was a romantic overtone in Sun and Moon end, she gave him a very emotional farewell. And, as Journeys showed us, Lillie and her family will have an arc about them searching for Lillie's father. Although Serena is the only one that has shown obvious romantic feelings towards Ash (well she KISSED him)

Yes, that would be really good. And I would like to see - at least in one season or just few episodes - children of Drew and May too. Though I can pretty much see that they may go to a way softer reboot (I mean we already have 2 "Schroedinger's reboots"... albeit if I weren't told about the first... I wouldn't notice it :D the second I've yet to see) I mean... I didn't reach the Journeys yet but I heard some fan theorizing about the writers wanting to get new protagonist to follow (presumably Goh) and it may be the case... I mean with the formula change they make to the Journey (now it's not just one region, they travel through "all" of them, and lot of previous characters do returns) it would be kinda weird to go back to the old formula and second season in this formula... I have doubts if it would make sense (at least according to my knowledge on how it looks right now). But (as Goh isn't so well received as it seems to me... which is strange to some extent, as in a way he is just doing something... I was firstly annoyed Ash wasn't doing - take the phrase "gotta catch'em all" seriously) it may go also in other way... what if they decide to use some of the Youngest part of the Ash companions and starts their journey? I mean mainly Max - actually after Journey he should already be around 10, so he can start a pokemon journey(and she, of course, should go back for this little ralts in some of the first episodes). Perhaps (after a season or two, or since the beginning) also Bonnie could join him. Their interaction may be interesting (I don't say they will end up as a couple, though it's still possible). In a way it's more likely as they didn't have to "move forward" the entire world with them and can have better connection with past season to on the one hand still appeal more to older fans, but also have this freshness for potential new fans (as most of the connection would probably be little nods, like Max fulfilling promise made to this ralts)

I know many of you think amour shipping is best but I am here to prove that pokeshipping is the true canon. First of all kasumi( misty) was a character created by Satoshi tahijri which is already great because he was the creator of Pokemon and the main protagonist whereas Serena was created by the Pokemon company. I know there are a lot of amourshippering and less pokeshipping moments in the Japanese dub and a lot of pokeshipping moments and less amourshipping moments in the eng sub but in the Pokemon movie 2000 there was a pokeshipping trailer released in which misty was seen with a pink haired girl and with a Pikachu ( obviously it is Ash's Pikachu) and the important point is that in the trailer misty didn't have a togepi thus , the writers already planned till the hoenn region where misty's togepi evoles into togetic . Mike said misty faded away because she didn't return but in the hoenn she appeared a couple of times , in sinnoh ash is shown using misty's lure and tells about her to dawn when dawn asked if she could use the lure ash immediately rejected, in unnova when Charizard returned ash was telling his flashback when he caught charmander in which Brock and misty were shown , and when ash was about to begin his kalos journey he remembered all of his companions in which misty appeared first and of course in alola Brock and misty were back and misty battled ash with a fricken mega gyarados. Another reason is Ash's Pikachu likes misty more than any pokegirl, it jumps to misty's shoulder with happiness ( you can't change my mind).Pikachu even has a name foe misty in its Language ( Pikachu pi). And lastly the key to pokeshipping is a gem called JEALOUSY. Ash gets jealous when he sees misty caring for another guy and misty the same to ash. I honestly didn't notice Ash's jealousy with any other pokegirl even with Serena . The reason I am saying this because jealousy is the key to a relationship. My first pokemon series was XY. I was an hardcore amour at first but when I saw the original series and I immediately changed pokeshipping because I thought misty's attitude matches Ash's attitude and I literally cried when the OG trio were were going to separated but I didn't cry for may, dawn , iris , and Serena. I know many people prefer dawn and Serena because they were pretty dresses and have cute pokemons . But I think eventhough thecreators didn't give much attention to misty and may I think they are the best even without pretty dresses.and in case if you haven't read The electric tale of Pikachu ash cleary had feelings for misty . I recommend to read it . Do you know why ash always looks into the sunset because the orange sunset reminds him of misty's hair and the bluish green sea reminds him of her eyes. Also, Misty started out with wanting a bike, than slowly started to come around and join, so their friendship was built up little by little, and how many times has Ashes blushed? Because the last episode I saw, series 2, ep 29 Pokeball peril, about 19 mins on Pokemon TV when Brock left the group and Team Rocket caught them both in a cage mentioned them both being love birds, then Ash and Misty turn away from each other, both of them blushing. Also, Tracy comments how she actually loves her phyduck, but tries to hide it. Serena, on the other hand just had a crush on Ash, while Ash did not have any feelings like that but he has for Misty. I like both ships, but from my view Pokeshipping is what I'm going to vote for. Also, in a scene of series 2 ep 44, Misty says: "They like each other, they're just not mature enough to admit it." Then Tracy comes in saying, "Like you and Ash." Ash and Misty call him crazy, but not wrong. Think about it: Did Ash blush when he got missed by Serena? No. Did he blush when Team Rocket just mentions or calls them Love Birds? Yes. But everyone has their own opinions, so what's yours? Armourshipping or Pokeshipping?

Something else from the interview with the director of XY and XYZ The idea of amour shipping is credited to Sukichi Kanda an animation producer who has worked in the anime since the Indigo League. You know, since the days of Poke shipping. So the fact that the guy who worked in the original series gave us a ship that has beaten all others and the ex most prominent one (Poke shipping) in becoming the first canon one, really says a lot. He even got Serena to know Ash years before he even met Misty. That fact and the things the director said in the interview you very cleverly mentioned, surely point towards the two of them becoming a couple in the future. I don't know if it's going to be in the SM anime or at the very end the show but it's a possibility that Serena will return to the show when Ash starts traveling the Alola region to complete the trials. Of all the classmates now only Lillie has the backstory and development to be a companion. We need 2 more for a traveling party like all the previous seasons had so I see no harm in returning Serena and another male character from the past (Gary?) or even introduce Hau as a companion.

Look pal, being a traveling group implies that they are traveling somewhere and have goals. Right now the school is an excuse for Ash to stay on Melemele. Let's talk about their goals now. Kiawe wants to be the best at fire Z-moves (respectable). Fat Clemont is afraid of the dark and wants to overcome his fear (yes, that's his goal!!!!). Lana wants to explore the depths of the sea in a balloon created my Popplio (nice but without future development in sight) and we don't really know what Mallow wants to do. I talked about Lillie. so the companions have to be some other people. Plus Ash has no chemistry with any of them. His chemistry with them is nowhere near as the one he had with the members of the XY gang and all the previous ones. The opening will change after the school arc ends. It doesn't foreshadow or mean anything regarding future companions, except Lillie.

I remember watching the x&y anime because it was my first and (at that point) only Pokémon game, and then watched some other series and i quit out of annoyance because I was mad that every cool female character was in love with ash, I really liked Serena as a character in some of the episodes and I treasure her as my favorite protagonist so it really got under my skin.
