Pretty simple when you think about it. 1. The person needs to know all about Beatrice's skills, especially Door Crossing. 2. The person knows who is currently in the house. But they do not know who entered after Subaru and Emilia got back from the fight with Sloth. 3. The person has personal stakes in the Royal Selection. 4. The person has something to do with Sanctuary, because they know when Subaru would approximately leave the barrier for the Roswaal Mansion.

Elsa doesn't seemingly know about Rem since she only mentions killing the "girl behind the door" and I am fairly certain that is Beatrice and not Rem she is talking about. Since Beatrice is a fairly big secret among most people...so its either Roswaal or someone with a lot of inside information. The only thing I can't really make sense off is the reasoning. He came clean to Subaru and clearly believe Subaru to be a "partner in crime" so why in the world would he have an assasin murder him? He clearly still find him useful so I doubt it is just because he wants to get ride of him..and the fact he handeled the witch cult more or less confirms Subaru to be a huge help for Emilia..so why get him killed? No reason to test him any further and this isn't an attack that would really help make Emilia seem better...unless he is somehow going to use it as a way to frame one or several of the other candidates to take away their popularity...

Another thing that the anime kinda implied but didn't make it clear is that: when the injured Subaru was carried away by Patrache, they encountered the HORDE of Witchbeasts outside of the mansion. Patrache managed to throw Subaru back in mansion before she was killed brutally. :( So the obtacle at the mansion side is not only Elsa but the horde of witchbeasts of different species (and potentially the witchbeast tamer).

Some info I’ve probably picked up from Tappei’s Q&A’s about Rem and Ram regarding this theory, pretty much just cut content and information relating to the twins backstory: It is important to note that Demons (Oni) and Demon beasts (Mabeast, Witch beast) have no connection exept for the fact that they have horns. In fact they have been discriminated against due to this artificial simularity. I am not sure about why Demon beasts are loyal to the ones who break their horn, but Ram’s initial reason for her loyalty to Roswaal is that she’d die unless he gave her mana through the wound where her horn used to be. Also, Roswaal wasn’t the one to break the horn, it was some random cultist. If that cultist was Roswaal, we’d have seen some extreme magic being used in the flashback last season. One of the biggest reasons this theory appears plausible at first is because of the translations used here, which aren’t that accurate to the original Japanese.

However, the indisputable fact is that Ram and Rem are oni, which roughly means ogre. They're not demon spirits but rather physical demons. As such, they're definitely unrelated, but "demon" is a viable translation for both. Edit: fixed flow and added main point at end.

My memory is failling me right now... I think this might have some spoilers, just to let you know. I read the LN, and I don't recall Ram ever going back to the mansion with Subaru until they actually bring back Garfiel and defeat Elsa and capture the mabeast tamer girl. I remember that on his first death (on this arc) he comes back with Otto and once more but he is alone and he is teleported back to the lab at the Sanctuary. Did I miss something (perhaps my memory is bad af lmao) or is this how they did it on the anime? Not really sure since I read that like a month ago.

Wanna read the LN’s so bad. I’m reading the WN and almost out of arc 4 but I want to read what’s going to be used for the anime. Though I haven’t read the LN’s yet I feel like I’m gonna prefer the WN. I’m sure I’ll still like the different decisions in the LN/anime though.
