I’m trying to platinum X and move on to trying to platinum X-2 but choco racing is a real bitch on the Vita little nub joysticks!!! About to say F FFX and leave it at like 97% trophy completion and go play X-2!!

FFX-2 probably had the peak of semi-turn based combat. The ONLY thing they lacked was the ability to freely change their position in combat. Even though we did eventually get a way to relocate via the psychic's teleportation, it still had its limit.

The irony is, if you actually do 100% (or as close as you can) it gets real dark, real fast. And very interesting. I feel those who hate on the game hate on it cause 1. all female and the dresspheres and 2. they just speed run the game and don't actually explore to find all the plot. This is one of the few games doing 100% is actually meaningful.

FFX2 actually has the best version of the traditional ATB system. Funny cuz X has the best traditional turn based system. Sucks that most ppl never got to delve into X-2's combat, just cuz they were turned off by the rest of the game.

I never understood why this game is hated, I grew up with this game and played FFX after I played FFX-2, after playing FFX I still don't know why this game is disliked so passionately. The story and characters of FFX-2 are the product of the actions we took in FFX. People in Spira don't have to fear Sin anymore so they including the main characters are becoming happier and more optimistic, Yuna included. So when I see people say 'what did they do to Yuna?' all I can hear is 'Why is Yuna not miserable anymore?' in FFX she was ready to die for Spira, in FFX-2 she doesn't have that grim commitment anymore and as a result she is a happier person, I would say that she like the rest of Spira is evolving with the times, we should be happy that she has been able to move on.

Yes I actually loved this game growing up. I don’t know why it got so much hate. I played FFX and this at the same time because I really loved that this wasn’t just linear and you could go wherever you wanted in Spira almost straight away. And it’s fun! It never took itself too seriously. Brilliant game!

I actually played the game backwards. I played X-2 first and it was fun because they’re just living their lives, helping people and having fun. But it was also fascinating that they were talking about the past events from X that I didn’t know about; so once I finally played X, and all the pieces came together I loved X and X-2 even more!

Thats a great way to look at it. In part, i can see it the same way. However, the first time i saw Yuna in X-2 though after the serious heartfelt ending of X and the tone was set so drastically different, i couldn’t help but feel like they cheapened her character and the epic story of X. The tonal shift was too much for me i guess. Her finding ways to move on and be happy and showing the world of Spira do the same could have been done with a little more class i feel.

I liked the Lady Luck dressphere because I can actually raise the girls' luck and throw Four Dice at my enemies. Not only that, but I can use the Slots to either attack the enemies or heal all three of the girls.😎🎲🎰♠️♣️♦️

plus each girl has different abilities, which makes it pretty interesting, especially early on. yuna being able to potentially cast tier 2 and 3 magic for cheap, rikku's multihitting abilities, paine's got potent status attacks earlier than you'd normally be able to get them not to mention the self heal and status cure, or attack all skills they can learn, that aren't easy to get in chapter 1.

Love this game. One of the better implementations of the job system in Final Fantasy IMHO. My favorite job is actually the Trainer. I like that each girl gets a slightly different skill set. I also like how versatile they are without being considered cheap (I’m looking at you Mascot). They can: deal damage, heal both HP and negative status ailments, inflict status effects, and cast support magic. Plus they have the Stroll support abilities and half-MP so you rarely run out of MP. They really are the “jack of all trades master of none” class.

I mean, do we agree the best job system is that of FF ...? (1-4?) I mean the Final Fantasy Tactics job system that is in one of those FF games I mentioned. Where you set a job and learn it's abilities. I actually didn't like how you were trapped in one dressphere, having to change it or how you had to choose to be stuck on a certain Grid or Accessory to use it's Abilities.

I basically had Yuna stick with Black Mage while swapping to White Mage as required, Rikku was mostly Gun Mage but I often switched to Thief when stuff needed stealing and I tended to keep Paine as a Berserker while sometimes going Dark Knight (I didn't own the International Edition so I didn't have access to Psychic sadly).

Festivalist dresssphere was actually very useful for me during early game in Chapter 1 before obtaining the White Mage dressphere.

Agreed on Dark Knight making the game boring. Darkness is an ability that costs no MP, never misses, ignores defense, ignores Shell and Protect, and hits everything on the field. Combine that with the job's generally high defenses and natural status guards and you have a class with essentially the tagline of "I don't care" and it's the go-to dressphere for wanting to go through the game without ever feeling tension or a sense of danger or challenge. Its only major weakness is its low speed but given all the time you save on simply "never having to think about anything", well, easy to see why anyone would naturally gravitate towards it especially on a first playthrough, but my god is it boring and a lesson in game design that making abilities/classes that generally just ignore most potential 'counterplay' from enemies is not a good idea.

I agree about putting the Dark Knight in god tier. I took down the dark aeons in about 2-3 hits of Darkness with buffs and right equipment.

I think all 3 girls should fully master White Mage because White Magic skills can also be used outside of battle. When used outside of battle, unless you're inside Via Infinito, I strongly recommend using accessories with "No Encounter" and "MP Stroll"; the Trainor dressphere also has MP Stroll, so you use that also for that purpose. Having 3 Berserkers can come in handy at times, especially dealing with Elder Drakes in Via Infinito due to the Evade and Counter skill. With all 3 having that skill, the game will practically play it self! In the case of Elder Drakes, unless you have the Force of Nature accessory, I highly recommend using the Tetra Master garment grid because they are weak to ALL 6 elements!

My personal set up is berserker & tetra master maxed out, secondly I use Ragnarok accessory iirc is from veiwing youth league in every chapter. This allows attacks to pass 9999 damage. Ng+ for 3 one on each. Each physical hit plus tetra strike will all do 9999+ damage. Although I sometimes switch one to alchemist for full health potions & full restores if needed like fighting desert monster

Honestly I think it's the best iteration of the ATB system that Square's ever done, it was fast paced but not too much like in FF 12 or 13 where things were too fast to handle efficiently your entire party so they had to rely on automatic and AI controlled battles, but it wasn't slow either like FFIX (Which I love, but god, the combat is so frickin' slow), 10-2 had the right amount of speed and character control. I think Square should've kept this battle system instead of going all action-rpg

Mascot, hands down, is the best dressphere. The auto abilities and ribbon make it formidable and incomparable. Add Peerless or Last Resort garment grid, and you've essentially broken the game.

My childhood self basically stuck with Berserker Paine, Dark Knight Yuna, and Alchemist Rikku for literally everything, though I'm gonna change it up in my newest playthrough. Thief has really good utility. I mostly used it to Escape battles, and Oversoul a bunch of fiends. This is how you get through the last 20 floors of Via Infinito. It's also how you Oversoul those godless horrors as well xD Lady Luck is deceptively good at ending random encounters within seconds. They attack fast, can instantly hit across the screen, and will instantly re-target if their target is killed. Gun Mage's Annihilator is basically Ultima. That ignores magic defence! That you don't need certain garment grids and dressphere changing shenanigans to use in battle. And apparently, even Aqua Breath is like 3x as strong as Waterga. Crazy right?

Sphere break is pretty easy, when you know what to do. Just use a 2, 3, 4, and 6 coin. At least one of the coins needs the Multiplier Echo trait. And one with the Item trait. Then on each of your turns, just go for the second multiple. You can even use this strategy to easily beat the sphere break elites.

Warrior and gunner each have a niche endgame that makes them useful. Gunner is good for Oversouling enemies by letting you just pop a Scatterburst and wipe the enemy team out. Warrior, specifically Delay Buster, can be used to cheese Chac, the floor 80 Via Infiniti boss if it is over soul. Yeah, all 3 girls just using Delay Buster over and over stun locks Chac

Personally, I would say that they're like this game's version of the Summons, but because the battle system is different, they're a bit nerfed for the effort you have to put into them. I would rank them all mid-tier personally, but with Full Throttle pulling slightly ahead of the pack as key to getting White Wind super early with access to Confusion inducing at the earliest possible point in the vanilla game.

Toriyama should make more games like this. X-2 and Lightning Returns have good gameplay but are so janky in other areas that ruin the overall experience. But I'd like to think that with a mid tier budget Toriyama can deliver a compelling experience.

Seeing as two of his games had a dress-up / mid-battle job change mechanic (and we're the highlight of both games) I'm saying he should make another one but with a better budget that can deliver a tight experience without too much padding which 13-3 suffered from. Partly because it had the smallest budget out of the trilogy.

To be fair, trainer isn’t too bad, specifically Paine’s. Decent party heal, instant kill/status abilities for common battles, and with mp stroll/half mp cost it can be paired with costly abilities/tomes.

Let me do a live reaction Shit Tier Festivalist: Fair. I've read somewhere that it is the most unbalanced Dressphere. It is super busted when you get it at the beginning of the game and falls off hard. Trainer: Agree. It's pretty bad. The only one I found useful was Paine's version. Mediocre support abilities. Had her as a discount healer because I all my girls already mastered WHM, and I needed to get Alchemist. Low Tier Warrior: agree. Good at the start but it drops off. Gunner: See warrior. Mid Tier Black Mage: Agree. Really good for the whole game. Excellent when you get wring. Drops off at endgame tho. Samurai: Disagree. Sparkler. That is all. Needs to be in top. Thief: I got first strike from a GG and mug from a GG too. Never got too much use from thief after that. I'd put it in low with the other starter DS. Songstress: Disagree. While magical masque is good for the Shady Duo I never got much use for her other than that. Dances mostly suck because they fade as soon as she stops dancing. Buff could be nice, but the main game is so easy you are better off doing damage. She is way too squishy to live a turn at Endgame. Low tier. Top Tier White Mage: I agree. I recommend Rikku for WHM duty. Her mascot gets it for free. Alchemist: Hard Disagree. Alchemist is one of the most busted DS in this game. Free and fast items are nice and all but mix. With mix you get easy party wide defense buffs (Potion+lunar/light/star curtain), haste for the whole party (Potion+chocobo feather), discount holy (Holy Water+Holy Water), just regular Holy (Holy Water+Any Elemental Gem). All at the beginning of CH 2. Easy God Tier. Gun Mage: Agree. If you put in the work it is good. Berserker: Disagree. I'd put it in Mid. Has high HP, but laughable defenses. Evade and counter helps on the physical side, but they are still weak to magic. All its counter abilities take tons of AP to master too. Never really put in the work for berserker I guess. God Tier Lady Luck: Agree. If you can work her Reels you get lots of free goodies. Double EXP and Gillionaire are nice too. Dark Knight: Hard Agree. It's just too good. Don't forget to pick her up at the end of CH 2. Psychic: Agree. Really good damage. Invincible pre-hero drinks. Easy God Tier. Broken Tier Mascot: Lol. Songstress deserves a decent spot simply due to Matador's Song. Honestly that move is busted af. Use that skill just one time in battle, and the majority of enemies in the game wont even be able to hit you. Its almost like having evade & counter on, and unlike Berserker, it only takes 10 AP to learn this skill. It makes using dresspheres with lower defense more worth using since you dont have to worry as much about taking damage. I use Songstress simply to apply the evasion buff, and then switch to another dressphere. It works wonders with the Black Mage + Wring Ultima build (Though personally i've been preferring Minerva's Plate since it also lowers cast time, and boosts magic damage at the cost of earning exp/AP, but without the cut to defense and HP, and poison). Since they'll be much less likely to die from physical attacks.

@@ashleyyoung796 For HP you can use Berserker, Dark Knight, or Mascot, and use a Crystal Bangle accessory to increase HP by 100%. If that alone by chance doesnt get you to max, then if you have a Stamina Tablet/Tonic, you can use one of those as well. As for 999 MP, your best bet is probably a magic based dressphere, like Black Mage, and use a Rune Bangle for +100% MP, and Mana Tablet/Tonic if that isnt enough to get you there. If you want both max HP and MP at the same time, then you're probably gonna have to get Mascot dressphere. If you want EVERY stat maxed, unfortunately that isnt possible on YRP, since the most you'd be able to get would be level 99 Mascot with 2 Iron Dukes equipped, that will get you 255 Str/Mag/Def/MDef/Acc/Eva, but Luck and Agility wont be maxed since Iron Duke only gives +50 and +10 respectively. Only monster allies can have 255 in every stat

@@ThundagaT2 I see, I *knew* that I was doing something wrong when I was playing the game from the beginning to all 5 chapters. As for the Mascot dressphere, I'm gonna have to go to all of the locations correctly except Bevelle and Zanarkand (unless I'm wrong about not going to those two places).🤔 Ugh, it looks like I'm going to have to start all over again to the beginning properly in the game because I messed up.🤦‍♀️ Oh, and thank you for that info by the way. @@ashleyyoung796 There's another way to get Mascot if you feel like doing Fiend Arena stuff. If you can beat the Youth League Cup you'll get one. To get that far you have to unlock it by doing the previous cups. You start with Standard Cup, beat that 3 times and you'll unlock Standard Cup Hard, beat that once, and you get Grand Cup, beat that one 3 times to get to Grand Cup Hard, and lastly beat that one 6 times to get Youth League Cup. Beat Youth League Cup one time and you'll get Mascot. Good luck with that though, Its still difficult getting it that way, its just less tedious than the episode complete stuff.

hmmm how can you put gunner in a lower tier? even with the nerf,gunner's can do alot of damage, you can do around 10k damage a shot with trigger happy + the chain reaction + atleast 24 shots with auto haste... hmmm

My tier list: Low: Festivalist after chapter 1 Berserker: trash defence, not worth using after mid game. Mid: Black mage- mostly due to MP Warrior: great before mid game. Dark knight- boring Top: Gunnner- only gets better, as many abilities ignore defense. Needs more boosting. Trainer- decent generalist Gun mage-Better than black mage White mage- Best healer when MP. Alchemist- items/ healer when White mage won’t work/ Mp drainer Samurai- best phys attacker. Psychic- good, but needs a tome. Broken Lady Luck- Sphere break is horrific, and I don’t like leveling up to 99 in 30 minutes. Mascot- Too good, but I wish you could choose what secondary abilities got added. Songstress- Worst class. Just shit tier. Best looking : Psychic Yuna White mage Yuna Berserker Rikku Samurai Yuna Gun Mage Yuna Dark Knight Paine Lady Luck Rikku Paine Special sphere.

When I saw the opening video, as well as how widely hated this game is among the fans, I legit got the insane idea what if I beat this game before the original X? And no, spoiler, you're gonna feel pretty bad at around the third mission for not having played X and X is worth it to be played anyway since it's amazing.... buut considering the hours it takes to be beaten it's currently on hold in my humongous backlog somewhere, but once I'm done with X I'll be jumping back to this game quick as lightning. Gunner Yuna, while basically a huge middle finger to some of the fans of X is still one of the hottest video game characters I've ever seen, so coupled with the fact how Yuna is also such a sweetheart.... perfect Final Fantasy waifu change my mind

Eh i dont really agree that White Mage is a high tier job, I learn the skills just to have them, and then after that i generally never go back to the job specifically. Rather, i access the White Mage skillset using accessories/garment grids while in other jobs. Black Mage on the other hand i think deserves a slightly higher position, as you can get an Ultima build for it that has near instant cast time because of Black Magic lvl 2 + Black Magic lvl 3, and pair that with either Wring accessory, or Minerva's Plate which will lower cast time even further along with boosting the power of Black Magic greatly. You can then further boost the strength of Ultima using Soul of Thamasa accessory, and then using the Black Mage's very own Focus skill to get an even further boost (Though personally i prefer to use Ragnarok accessory for the 0 MP cost). If you have a garment grid that allows Break Damage Limit, you can get some pretty damn good damage out of it. As far as how defenseless this build leaves you, you can always use Songstress' Matador's Song, or Psychic's Express ability to top off evasion, and even strong boss attacks will likely miss. Unless its an attack that cannot be dodged period. Holy on the other hand tends to be a shit tier spell not worth the MP cost as its nowhere near as powerful as it was in FFX.

I just started playing this again. Have to disagree with the Festivalist - it’s a really good tanky dress early game since you pretty much get it from the start. By chapter 2 their health is around 5-700, Paine can reach up to 1k health as early as Chapter 2.
