Bumblebee has a huge presence on animated TV shows but is almost invisible in comics. Comics creators just seem to consider her as this insignificant character with no fans. Yet her cartoon counterparts seem to be surprisingly popular with a lot of younger girls identifying with her. She certainly is more popular than Mal!

Most people know who she is quicker than Mal, which I always found odd since he debuted first, but yeah, DC is quick to prop her up on TV, but never in the comics. We need a writer who actually wants to use her for something more than a token handout character arc.

I actually have that Teen Titans comic book where Bumblebee suited up for the first time and attacked the team. I always liked the character, and I wish DC would do more with her. Also, I don't understand how Hasbro can trademark the name Bumblebee since DC gave Karen that name first back in the 1970s.

I think what happened was that DC just didn't bother renewing her trademark and Hasbro noticed. This actually commonly happens but typically only when the trademark holder doesn't "give a fuck" or simply "doesn't think enough of the property to remember or even bother".... Sadly.

This character has been intriguing since day one. It's a shame she was all but abandoned after the 1970s, but Marv Wolfman eventually (begrudgingly?) used her in New Teen Titans. I was very disappointed in the Rebirth version of her - it was too far off from the original conception.

I hate how DC and Marvel act like they don’t have enough black characters when they do like Bumblebee, The Herald, Spectrum, Blue Marvel, and Bishop, they just never use them and only go for the popular ones like Black Panther, Cyborg, Luke Cage, and Joh Stewart Green Lantern.

Hell, since DC has been dropping and changing up characters, Insect Queen would be a great way to have her connected to the Titans with the Bee theme. DC, please, do not give her the "creature curse"; the body of whatever insect she gains the abilities of like Lana Lang did in the old Superboy stories.

Take it a step further, both Marvel & DC did not believe a Black Heroine could stand on its own. So Black female characters were not solo heroes. The FIRST BLACK SOLO FEMALE HEROINE is Vixen. The crazy part is they didn’t allow the comic to finish in the early 80’s & the pages were left Black & White. To this day a solo Black Heroine movie doesn’t exist yet. (Not that bs Catwoman with Halle Berry bc the character originally wasn’t Black). Hopefully DC stop race bending pay homage to the Black Characters they have... Js...

DC comics has always considered Black characters an afterthought. Look at what they did to Cyborg. They stripped him away from Teen Titans just so they could have a minority character in Justice League. And not a very powerful one to fit the team. Slower than Flash, weaker than Superman and Wonder Woman, less intelligent than Batman. He brings nothing to the team. At least with Titans he was their strongest character. The same with Bumblebee. She's just a character in DC'S *we-need-a-Black-character box.* Characteristics? Extremely underpowered, easily replaceable and just as easily forgotten.
