I love how in all of your videos like this you give the context around what was happening, even if you’ve said it hundreds of other times in other videos. It’s a good subconscious hammering of the lore (and history, too) that I’ve noticed is helping me recall names, and even dates. This video is coming at perfect timing because I stumbled upon a page with “Danu” in the name and it felt kind of, hm.. can’t explain it, like a feelin in your bones that it’s maybe not all accurate. Anyway, loved this, thanks!

Danu has a place of reverence with my practice and was one of the first goddesses I looked into when I was drawn to my pagan path, along with Brigid, the Morrigan, the Dagda and some of the mainland Celtic deities like Cernunnos. Perhaps she isn’t a creator deity like Gaia, but possibly more a mentor or teacher, who guided and instructed the Tuatha before they set out to inhabit Ireland.

As long as you understand that there is no Irish myth on such deity, that's one theory

one idea i heard from some irish mythology scholars was that the Tuatha de Danann were actually just known as the Tuatha De ("God People" or "People of God"), but when the christian monks came in and wrote down the stories they couldn't have that level of competition with their one christian god... so they just tacked on the continental pagan goddess Danu and turned them into the "People of the Goddess Danu." i don't mind the theory. doesn't mean it's true, doesn't mean it isn't, but it is true that the historic written references to Danu are almost non-existent.

It's pretty well attested actually and linguistically sound. You prob also heard it from us 😊
