Hi, I'm a big fan of G-Dragon. As a Korean, I would like to break down about this song. There are lots of Korean wordplay, so some lines of lyrics might feel awkward, These are some clues that you can understand the song more. 88: GD's birthday is 18.08.1988, So he puts his own meaning on the Number 8. That's why he wrote so many 8s in his lyrics. You can see the Metro map on 6:12, it's a track-list of his up coming album, there are 8 tracks. The last line of lyrics ("Fly high"): The original Korean lyrics' pronunciation is "Pal Pal Nara" (Means fly high). There is a wordplay as well, 'Pal' is 8, same pronunciation, and 'Pal Pal' is kind of onomatopoeia, 'Nara' is Flying, so this line was translated flying high in English. And that's why the ending scene shows 8 8 (Pal Pal) and GD jumps (Flying) (Nara) The meaning the wordplay of the lyric "Spot to rest, a Global Luxury": The original Korean Lyric is this, 누울 자리 글로벌 명품 "Nu ul Jari, Global Myong pum (Glo / bal myong pum)" In here, Glo means text, lyrics, writings, everything about word or text. Global is global, the exact english word, but here's the thing, Bal myong pum is Invention. So he connected two Korean words to one English word (Glo + bal). And Myong pum is luxury, the words share same pronunciation, so these are some wordplay using pronunciation of Korean and English. This is crazy wordplay. in my opinion, GD likened home("Spot to rest") to every goal such as social status, honour, his position in the field, and he invented his goals, and it's also luxury. The main hook "I don't give a shh, Laughing end 'Money' Donating 'millions' Grin": last year, GD was suddenly investigated for drug scandal. During the investigation, every single time he attended to police station, he said "I don't care because I never drugged." At the result, the truth is GD was innocent, at the photo-line in front of the police station, he laughed. After the scandal, he recognised that the risk of drugs in Korean society, He founded a foundation for drug eradication, he donated KRW ₩ 300 million (about USD $ 218,828). So this story is where the lyrics came from. Meaning of "Power Abuse questioned Tolerance Natural Disasters Unavoidable Circumstances" During the drug investigation, journalists raised him a suspicion of Power abuse for having Drugs, at the same time, Korean News channels delivered that rumour without fact-check. However after investigation, he was innocent, and he was possible to accuse those News channels, but he was tolerant to them, he announced he will not get a court. This is the story of "Power abused questioned Tolerance" (Natural translation is like "I was tolerant when I was questioned Power Abuse"). Natural Disasters (천재지변: Chun Jae Ji Byun) = (천재, 지병: Chun Jae,[Genius] Ji Byoung[Chronic illness]) same pronunciation wordplay. Genius always has Chronic illness, and it's unavoidable circumstances (irresistible force). Meaning of "Forcefully criticise Spread a meme Talk blah blah shout out": During the investigation of drug, some news channels, fake news KZbinrs, and social media delivered GD's old interviews. In the interviews, he looked like he was addicted to drugs, because he speaks slowly, suddenly smiles, unnatural facial describing and his eyes. And these became memes and many publics criticised him. It was such a baseless criticism. People talked behind his back, but when after he finished the investigation, suddenly many people changed their attitudes, shout out him as usual like they haven't betrayed him at all. I'll be honest with you. I really didn't think there was anyone under the age of 80 that listens to music, who hadn't heard of G Dragon. Kpop would not be Kpop without G Dragon. Until a year or 2 ago, they had 5 of the top 10 grossing WORLD tours. They sold out stadiums and domes in the west before groups like BTS and Black Pink existed. And most current Kpop groups talk about Big Bang and especially G Dragon as their influence and reason for getting into Kpop in the first place. People who are into BTS, know that Suga even said there would be no BTS or most other groups without Big Bang and that "you could say they created BTS". Let's be real here. Korean Producers literally called Big Bang (GDs group) Foul Play because these 5 guys were dynamic, talented, composers, producers, lyricists, making their job actually unstable to future idol groups. Back in 2009 Big Bang the group would literally stop the music industry, singers and groups would genuinely halt releasing music for the next 3-5 days because no matter how big you were, Big Bang was bigger. Even when they released solos the group was feared. Us fans would try to get PAK for the same song on the charts (#1 spot in 9 real time charts) only to have 3 of Big Bang tracks competing against each other for #1…the frustration was real😂 the entire Korean music charts were at least 1-8 spots taken by Big Bang. FUN! I discovered Kpop around 2010. First singer I heard was Bi Rain. My family and friends think I am nuts. Big Bang became one of my all time favorite groups. Better than the Beatles by a long shot. G Dragon wrote most of their songs. Also had a huge solo career. He is a genius. Things happened during Covid and while four were doing their required service. The group has broken up. 😭 Do go on a wild ride with him and Big Bang. Hold onto your seat! I forget if GD was 8 or 13 when he signed his first contract. PS. Hey! This man right here just made a comeback after 7 years of hiatus. So, one thing about G-DRAGON is: his lyrics are hard to understand due to the incredible play he does in Korean, even Koreans have it hard they have to analyze him 😂 But a little summary: G-DRAGON; Kwon Jiyong is his real name, and his stage name is the literal translation of his name Ji (G) Yong (Dragon) had the whole media last year trying to destroy him for drug use (there was no evidence, no one knew where the accusations came) that's why it was ridiculous af. In the end everything went well because he was innocent of those stupid accusations and even the media said sorry to him for basically lying. I'd recommend you to watch some videos or read more if you really wanna know more about it. Anyways, this song is the first of -apparently- 8 songs. We still don't know much because this man decided to announce his comeback 18 hours before 😀 But still slayed! So expect a whole album of the G-DRAGON because this is just a taste of what's to come. I'm not exaggerating, he does a lot of different genres so maybe you'll be surprised if you get into his very diverse discography! I recommend you his last album Kwon Jiyong (yes, his own name) it's a very personal album. To explain it better, think about Eminem and Slim Shady.... then here it's Kwon Jiyong and G-DRAGON, two different people. One is the person and the other the alter ego. G Dragon was a Superstar by the time he was 23 years old. He has been in the entertainment industry since he was a 7 year old kid. Debuted in 2006 with his Kpop group BIG BANG, known as the KINGS of Kpop. they are Legends - They did so many first in Kpop - including the first to write and compose their own music. GD by the time he was 28 had nearly 200 songs he had penned for himself, his band and others and is today even after being away from music for 7 years still - his songs are still sitting in the top 10 songs in Kpop to date. Even as an army, I acknowledge G-Dragon as the king of kpop, he and Big Bang (his group, they were form YG) were really the base of everything we know as kpop today. It's crazy. You’ll have to wait for the breakdowns to understand the whole thing ‘cause he’s known to write and blend wordplays both in English and Korean- where sometimes native Koreans still have to dissect. Most times his wordplays include Korean idioms and such but what’s constant is his use of the number 8, his dragon symbol and also the acronym of “GD”. Apart from the lyrics, there are also a lot of references to his previous MVs. The red veiled people are seen in coup d'etat, the little car is part of the CROOKED mv, the train is part of michiGO; he also stated on a recent program that he was inspired by the truman show and you can kinda see how this is filmed that it reflects that. also as many people already said he is a trend setter in kpop. he's the one who invented the first personalized lightstick for his group (cause before in concert they had quite literally colored lighsticks); first korean artist to be named a brand global ambassador(CHANEL), first artist who launched his solo career while also being still active with the group, the first male artist to dye his hair every comeback and to have tattoos shown in public (s.korea is still strict with having tattoos on idols, so much so they have to cover up the exposed ones when they do live shows). BTW you should listen to coup d'etat by him and quite literally catch up on his discography.

the 88 is a word play that only works in Korean he says "pal pal nara" which in English it means "flying high" but 'pal' also have same pronounciation of '8' in Korean that's why there's 88 behind him, and what's fun is that he read it 'pal pal' and not 'pal-ship-pal' (which is eighty eight) Also I hope you can react to one of his old songs too! There is another must see performance from BigBang members G-Dragon & Taeyang, but from the MAMA awards, (Mnet Asian Music Awards) from the yr 2014.🔥 ❣GD x Taeyang - Good Boy with English subtitle (Complete Version) by channel D CYK. Only GD & Taeyang performing Good Boy. This is the one that shows BTS in the audience in the area in front where the other performing idols groups sit. This is where GD does an amazing rap performance beforehand, which is why I chose a vid that had the ever so important eng subs, where ❣🔥GD (G-Dragon) is actually shading the very award show as well as others that always give the same idols from the same big companies awards, not giving others a chance. GD performed this although BigBang as well as the members were the ones who always win most of those awards back then, but he still wanted to speak out in spite of it about all the corruption in the industry back then. Which was one of the reason groups from smaller companies without connections or money had quite hard if not impossible to break through. BTS being one of those groups. GD & Taeyang actually performed a quite short version of Fantastic Baby in the end, normally a song from BIGBANG as a whole, but I thought seeing a vid the only one, that has the Eng subs by channel D CYK, for GD’s rap in the beginning was the priority! 👍🙏❤‍🔥😍🔥🔥💫✨
