The literal meaning of the word HINDU is: 1. Shaiva Agama Meru Tantra: Hinam cha dushatya Hindu rityutchchate priye. Meaning: Mahadeva says to parvati: Oh dear! one who renounced ignorance and inferiority is called a Hindu. 2. Shabda Kalpadruma: Hinam dusyati iti Hindu. Meaning: One who renounced ignorance and inferiority is called a Hindu.

The word "Hindu" originates from the Sanskrit word for river, sindhu. The Indus River running through northwest India into Pakistan received its name from the Sanskrit term sindhu. The Persians designated the land around the Indus River as Hindu, a mispronunciation of the Sanskrit sindhu.

Will someone be considered hindu given that: 1) He/She "was" born Hindu 2) Has some philosophical beliefs like Hindus BUT NO cultural similarity and DOESNOT follow Hindu dietary laws. 3) Doesnot consider himself/herself a Hindu.

apki bat shi ho skti hai me is bat par ap ko oppose nhi karunga par agar ham law ke hisab se bat kare to hindu law ke hisab se Jo mene btaya sir unhi ko hi Hindu consider kiya gaya hai other religion ko nahi, Basically I am talking about Hindu according to Hindu law. Baki apne jo btaya me use bhi check krta hu ho skat hai past ke hisab se shi ho pr hindu law ke hisab se nhi.
