Jung Kook is BTS's main vocalist (and rightly so!), and he can dance his arse off-such a talent! All of your references were spot on as well (Romeo & Juliet, etc.) - he is on fire right now-solo Pop Star! He has a remix of his song 3D with Justin Timberlake, and also a remix of this song with USHER-please check them out! His homage to Michael Jackson is huge and he does it justice.

JKOOK is called by his band mates as the Golden Maknae as Maknae means youngest and golden because he can do anything right as a singer as a dancer as a painter he excells in sports and other things. His bandmate really love him as the youngest in the group. His bandmate basically spoils him the right way like being respectful and most of all be humble.

In his solo album Golden, Jungkookie is not involved in song writing, but he picked all the songs. He has been involved in song writing for BTS and his own solo mixtape before, and he's good at it. All seven member are actually very involved in writing and producing their BTS discography encompassing many musical genres, it's amazing. The rap line and the vocal line are all talented artists that can succeed on their own, but they chose to stay together as a group. Their brotherhood and personalities are so lovely to watch. They are known to never put up half-baked performances, watching their live performances is such an experience.

@@PrymalChaos In your intro, you seemed to not be familiar with the BTS individual members or their bond as a group. Being the deservedly global superstars that they have become, there are several "WHO IS BTS?" type KZbin videos mostly done by knowledgeable ARMY that really help a newbie appreciate the fabulous talents and goodness of these hard-working men. Very many reactors on YT, including the music industry professionals often review one or two of those pretty early on in their BTS journey, to know the names and learn what makes them special. The current "IN" recommendation is by Taylor Mari. Another type that shows their dedication are the ACCIDENT, FAINT AND FALL videos that more often get viewed in private. An "oldie but goodie" that I have watched a few times is BTS // FROM NOBODIES TO LEGENDS [2019] by XCeleste that seems to have more "heart" than some and is good up to that point.

"gone separate ways" isn't really true, bts haven't disbanded. by law they have to serve in South Korea military for 18+ month each, so they decided to roll out solo projects before enlisting to take their time off from group activities and explore their own musical taste. in 2025 all 7 members will be done with their duty to the country and plan to promote as a group again :)
@ablindinglightthatnolonger8379 Жыл бұрын
not to mention that they have always ventured into solo projects even before the hiatus. They weren't as promoted and the guys didn't have as much time in their hands to focus solely on said projects, but, they always had the creative freedom and the intrinsic push to experiment with their own musical identity other than their musical identity in BTS. However, I do get that this concept could seem so alien when the only reference to boybands this man might have has always been Western (read American or from the UK) boybands, where the producers and labels only formulate the sound and promotion around 1 or 2 guys and the others are kinda placed in the back. Therefore "solo projects" sound a whole lot like the "solo careers" that members of a boyband (or band in general really if you see examples like Peter Gabriel from the Genesis or the Beatles) would venture into after splitting the band.

Great points ARMYs! I'll also add that they have all resigned their contract with Big Hit/Hybe and have given hints to what we can expect in 2025. Bang PD said that even if they didn't resign with Big Hit/Hybe, they would have done this project anyway.

Jungkook is often relegated to the "center position" in the majority of BTS's performances. RM said in I believe the docu-series, "Burn the Stage" that every member has a very important role in the group but Jungkook is at the core of so many of their performances, if something were to happen to him (like he fell ill or got injured) the group would kinda be in trouble because he is at the center of their stages, be it vocally or choreography-wise. And speaking of vocals, because Jungkook has perfect pitch, he would often times do song guides. So when Suga (one of the members of the group who also produces) would do work for artists outside of BigHit, the guide tracks that he would send them would often times utilizes Jungkook's vocals which inadvertently intimidated the other artists Suga was writing for because of just how great Jungkook sounded on a track, leading the company to kindly ask Suga to no longer use Jungkook for his vocal guides. 😅😅 As someone who was born in '85, I grew up working at my parent's restaurant, listening to a lot of "adult contemporary" pop music on the radio like Marvin Gaye, Sade, Michael Jackson, Doobie Brothers, Lionel Richie, Michael Bolton, etc. so I TOTALLY understand where you are coming from when you are talking about musical influences and callbacks to 80-90s style of smooth pop music. TBH, the hook at the beginning of the song actually reminded me of the beginning of Anita Baker's "Sweet Love". That abrupt hit of brass and drums immediately took me back to my childhood. I love this song so much and I am so excited to see you check out other tracks from BTS from a musician's stand point. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise, I can't wait to see more!

71 year old BTS Army here. Yes, this great song is '80s retro Disco "Funk" and was described by his label as subtle homage to Michael Jackson. None of JK's solo releases have anything to do with Kpop other than JK is S. Korean. All of JK's solo releases including his just released album "Golden" are all in English. There are no S. Korean songwriters, producers, choreographers recording studios or MV directors or locations, etc. He is blowing past Kpop and jumping head first into the American pop market. He is using American Grammy Award winning songwriters, producers, directors, along with some of the best choreographers. He is recording in L.A at Andrew Watt's studio and filming at mostly U.S. locations such as Universal Studios in Hollywood. This one, however, is an abandoned power plant in Budapest, Hungary. The director is a very famous Ukrainian director who has directed for Harry Styles and many others. His self professed dream of being a giant pop star is clearly beginning in a big way! BTW, there are now 3 live performances. iHeart Radio, Jimmy Fallon Show, The Today Show, and there is a KILLER Official Choreo Version and his KILLER live performance in Times Square in NYC. He is known as the Golden Maknae and main vocalist of BTS. Maknae because he is the youngest, and Golden because he is good at anything.By the way, his freshly released album is called "Golden". He also just released a remix of this song with Usher. Thank you for your excellent reaction! 💜

I’m also 46…I’ve seen a lot of artists live from Metallica, & Daughtry to Dave Matthew’s, one direction and rusted root. BTS was the best concert I’ve ever been too. I brushed them off for years as “just a boyband” until my daughter made me see how closed minded I was being. 4 years and I’m 100% ARMY. I love that BTS is not only talented but they do a lot of genres, are humble guys that treat each other like family and also put on an amazing show. I admit, while I’ve watched blackpink, stray kids, NCT and seventeen I have not spent much time on anyone else. Jungkook here is a great example of how amazing each member is in their own right, so together as a group-perfection💜💜 all seven members have recently signed new contracts to return as a group in 2025 after military service so they are still very much a group. Unlike western groups, BTS has had solo songs for each member on their group albums for years so they really support each other having their own vibe and time to shine.

They def waited for a voice that could handle this amount of presence. His song 3d with Jack Harlow sounds like late 90s and early 2000s pop…. Justin Timberlake in particular, his song “seven” w latto feels a bit like old Craig David…. the thing with BTS is that because they experiment so much with their music and because they truly love music, you can always expect something good from them. like of course we get excited like whats it gonna sound like? or things like that but one thing is for sure and that is that its gonna be good, thats why we buy their music before its even released, because we just know they would never give us something half assed or something they knew wasnt good. also Jungkook he was just born with so much talent but a good thing abt him and the rest of BTS is that they dont take things for granted, or they dont think they are better than anyone, thats why they always work hard, and for example jungkook has talked many times about how he sings everyday to make his voice even better and that his dream is to see himself as someone cool and as someone thats good bcs he doesnt see himself like that. Even tho we all think he's being too hard on himself it really just shows how much he cares about his music and about giving the best to us and how dedicated him and the rest of the members are. And yes BTS are heavily influenced by MJ (and many other artists from different genres) they love to make some Micheal homage. In the fandom we always say that MJ would've loved them so so much because MJ's family love BTS and the way BTS experiment with music, choreography, visuals, etc. how much they care for us and giving the best to us, how much work they put in their live performances and are vocal abt many social topics...yup, he would've loved them.

Each member released solo work prior to service and you have stumbled upon one of Jung Kook's songs from his all English album GOLDEN (which is a masterpiece, btw). BTS has been on the music scene for 10 years and their fandom is called ARMY. BTS has 3 rappers and 4 vocalists. The song Standing Next to You is indeed a homage to Michael Jackson, and also references to Romeo and Juliet. That being said, I understand that you might feel the need to compare western artists and music to understand how in the world such talented artists can come out of South Korea?...but yes, they exist and we call them BTS!!!! I would suggest BTS group songs like BLACK SWAN, ON, MIC DROP, DOPE and the song FIRE. All English songs include DYNAMITE, BUTTER and PERMISSION TO DANCE. BTS have 300+ songs in their discography. God dammit I love seeing a person who just loves good music and knows how to perfectly define what makes pop music from South Korea so appealing. This takes me to both the era of neo disco revival of the 2010s where the sound was dreamy yet a lot crispier in studio (magic wands, cut copy, m83, etc) and the OG golden era where the live instruments are obvious and musicality is tight yet groovy (slave, brothers johnson, MJ, etc). Somehow, through all of that homage, JK still shines?! Insane talent right there. Everyone involved knocked this out of park, honestly.

I'm also in my mid-40s and grew up watching some of the best heavy metal/rock bands plus amazing artists like MJ, Madonna, Whitney, etc in the west. I've known about Kpop since the late 90s but never cared for it because I've always thought Kpop had this very outdated sound. It wasn't until I gave BTS a chance a few years ago that I fell deep down the rabbit hole. I've given other Kpop groups a chance but found myself not interested and running back to BTS. They are the best in my opinion and their records speak to that. More than anything, I love the lyrics and messages within their music.

Your breakdown of this recording was spot on. BTS does a lot of "looking back" as far as musical styles. This is, in my opinion, a great nod to the past. Of course JK put his own touch to this track. I've heard all the songs off his album "Golden" and they all sound different. It will be interesting to see what this young extremely talented musician comes up with next. This funk style , as far as I'm concerned, will always be relevant. Take care.....

There is a new documentary about Michael Jackson, where there are 2 mentions of BTS. On thing I've always admired and respected about BTS is; They give credit, where credit is due. They are not afraid to say their influences. Michael was a BIG one. They've mention Usher and JT as big influences over the years. The other thing I wanted to tell you is: RM is the leader of the group, he would have the members of the group come and listen to music they had not been exposed to. All different types and genres. They also went to LA and worked with Hip Hop Producers. I've heard other Korean artists say that, you don't have a regular conversation with BTS. You don't get the weather forecast for today with BTS. They just want to talk the music.

The brass section gets me every time and that super funky bass line. I grew up on Michael Jackson and Prince in the 80ies and lived through Usher's debut at the beginning of the 90ies as he was defining the renewed R&B landscape in the US. Later I was Parliament all the way. Tha funk got to me completely. What JK did here is marvelous. It brought back all the happy feelings from back then experiencing the sounds for the 1st time. His vocals are astounding, such a warm tone even in the falsettos. I completely share you're feelings about this track. Thanks for the reaction. P. S. - I strongly suggest you checking out the Usher remix of this track.

Thanks for your reaction! I'm 66 and met BTS during the pandemics. I was so disappointed with the current music 😢 but they brought my love for music back!! Since the beginning I've described them as a group with seven MJ 😊 All of them are excellent singers, rappers, dancers, composers, songwriters, storytellers, entertainers, and, of course, special human beings that treated us (their fandom, A.R.M.Y.) with so much love! Diversity is their main characteristic. Deep and meaningful lyrics are another one. Oh! I thought you were a newbie 😅 but I saw you've reacted to them already. They have so many masterpieces that I hope you keep reacting to them, as a group, solo, rapline or vocal line) 🙏🙏

Seeing MJ when he was a young boy n Ed Sullivan. And I LOVE BTS - for life. Not only nostalgia, but they made me fall in love with rap and hip hop. Hi Twinnie, I’m 46 too! 😂 I definitely see this as an homage to MJ but he manages to keep it his own rather than it being a rip off. To me it’s got a soul\funk vibe. My music tastes are varied, System of a down and BTS are my favourite groups. You’ve hit the nail on the head regarding Baz Luhrmans R&J. The director of the mv was a fan and wanted to recreate the look. Jungkook is one of 4 vocalists in BTS and honestly, all of their vocals are simply amazing.✌️💜

I hope you check out each of the BTS member's solo projects. Each one is unique. Jin - "Astronaut" with Coldplay J-Hope - his unique melodic rap but interlaced with hard rock "More" RM - going soft rap featuring a variety of other S Korean artists including ballad and hard rock ("Wild Flower") Suga (aka AgustD) with his old school hard rap modernized. "Haegeum" V - R&B "Love Me Again" Jimin - modern dance focus but "set me free" is a step beyond. You've experienced our Jungkook doing what he does best which is Pop in all its glory. But he does sad brilliantly "Hate You"

You are so right. This is a cross cultural, cross generational song. It is amazing. I am not gonna mention my age but I can recognize so much entrenched behind this production. It is so rich , sweet and very nostalgic without getting cliche. It evokes so many memories from different genre. I would like to know more about the creative ideas, creative people behind this great production.

In South Korea you must go to military for 18 months. Jungkook will go this or next week into military till 2025...so BTS will make a comeback in 2025! Jung Kook released his first solo album in November! Now he will leave for military 😢

BTS are so good at pulling references from all over the place and then putting their own stamp on it. They have a song called Pied Piper that gives me Beegees vibes when I hear it. They have a performance of it along with a song called Dimple that's just so good. Dimple is vocalists only, Pied Piper is the whole group.

Yes all the members of BTS have done solo work over the many years they've been together but it has always been as mixtapes or solos within BTS albums, just last year the members started their solo careers ahead of their mandatory military enlistment, by next week December 12th all the members will be in the military and they will reunite in 2025. The eldest member was the first to enlist and will be returning this coming June he only had time to release a single before he had to enlist, the other members released albums that have much more songs than i have listed below, these are just the main ones with MVs. If you'd like to get to know the members better and get to know their personalities and relationship you should check out the Guide To BTS. BTS have a very special bond that I believe is the main reason for their massive success. Jin - The Astronaut J-Hope - Arson & More RM - Wildflower & Still Life Jimin - Set Me Free pt 2 & Like Crazy Agust D - Haegum & Amygdala V - Slow Dancing & Love Me Again Jungkook - Seven & 3D (+this video) A Guide to BTS Members: The Bangtan 7 kzbin.info/www/bejne/mWekhISFrLCens0

I grew up on 90s music. Never was into pop, disco, funk, etc. but I really like this one. I think it’s a good modern twist on it. And it sounds very high quality which is a good contrast compared to today’s TikTok hits. Maybe if this came out when this type of music was more popular it would hit differently? But being released nowadays makes it really stand out and really shows how music has lost its soul now 😢

Jung Kook is the main vocalist from the start of BTS. And he is really outstanding at dancing also. Some people try to say he is one of vocal memebers but that didn''t describe his role in BTS. Golden is his first solo album, but he released couple of solo songs, such as "Begin", "Euphoria", "Still with you" but you can tell his voice from all BTS songs. And he did most backvocals and chorus to most of BTS songs. After 10 years of BTS, it's blessing to hear his great great solo songs with great performances and his great album.

Thanks for the reaction! This song is so good, and JK is amazing. His album, Golden, is so good! He is BTS's main vocalist for a reason! One of the first things I heard after MJ was Michael McDonald/Doobie Bros, along with Hall and Oates, Chicago (the brass!), along with the others you mentioned. Just the best of the best all around. All of the solo members' works (temporary group hiatus, NOT a disbandment, due to their mandatory military service requirement) are excellent. Would love to see you react to more of the rest of the group.

The sound is definitely inspired by Quincy Jones, who was THE producer of that era (of course he produced Off The Wall (which is an obvious influence here), Thriller and Bad). So many Quincy Jones touches (like the slight echo at the very end). Another factor is that Cirkut produced this track - he's most famous for doing Starboy for The Weekend (another MJ influenced performer.) I would say that the younger kpop listeners love JK but don't love this sound quite as much as his other two songs (Seven was the big hit in Korea). Seven hit no. 2 while Standing went to no. 6 and 3D to no. 7 (but I think the Jack Harlow rap verses, esp. the last one turned some people off.) Ironically there has been kind of a return to retro sound and style in Kpop the last few years - but that tends to appeal more to the older listener.

If your curious to check out what the members do when not under the group name do check out their solo works from the past year all but Jin (he didnt have time) released a album/mini album and Jin released a single called the Astronaut with Coldplay as a farewell before enlisting. RMs album is called Indigo, Sugas D-day (under the name Agust D recently ranked in the 100 best albums of 2023 by Rollingstones magazine), Jhopes is called Jack in the box, Jimins is called Face, Vs is called Layover and Jungkooks is called Golden. Each has their own style and color from jazz and soul to pop, rock, funk and much more even BTS own discography is very diverse even within same album you can find a multitude of genres. But BTS them selves is great to check out its alot of diversity, good music, good lyrics and important messages and all members have been involved making music for the band either as writers, composers or producers (some more than others but all have contributed to some extent). Thank you for giving Jungkook a go and please give the group and the other members a go 💜

Hi, thanks for your reaction. They haven't disband or gone their separate ways, they dedicated this year to solo projects due to their mandatory military service, but will come back as a group in 2025. The seven members have released albums in their own genres and likes this year, i think you will enjoy Jimin and Taehyung's albums as much as Junkook's. But they all have amazing music, as expected from the boys. Truly amazing artist. Can't wait to see more reactions ✌🏻💜

Being a 59 yr old Aussie lady that grew up with 70s, 80s and even 90s club music and especially MJ from the 70s & 80s, which I definitely saw JK paying homage to MJ one of his idols straight away in this song! I have also been a fan of BTS since Dec 2017 after MICDROP Remix came out! One of the biggest reasons why I love BTS's Music so much is that it takes me back to those days which were my most excited days of music and dancing. Now I can feel young again and that makes me one happy lady!! JK is a very very talented singer/dancer/subrapper that oozes out of him in waves, it's the same with all the members of BTS their solo work has been the most amazing work, they all bring something different music wise that keeps you wanting more. I will miss them terribly while they are in the military but look forward to when they all return by 2025 as BTS, and in the meantime we have so much content to listen and watch from over the last 10 years of their journey and with more yet to come while they are away!! Great reaction and look forward to hopefully seeing you discover for yourself why BTS are different and on another level!! Cheers mate! x

I agree with your comments on JK's main track in his "Golden" album and as a 60 year old dancing and listening to the music of Earth Wind & Fire, Michael Jackson and later Toto, SNTY indeed brought that nostalgia of that era. This is JK's first official solo album but he has several solo songs within BTS's discography. I'm all praises for Jungkook and BTS bec they always pay homage to the Goats in the music industry, most notably to MJ, in fact in the 40th anniversary of MJ, BTS was mentioned in the video bec people in the music industry have recognized MJ's influence in BTS's music, choreography and performance level. Sadly we won't be seeing him do live shows after this bec he and the remaining 3 of his BTS brothers are enlisting in the SK military on Dec 11 & 12. But BTS will be back in the music scene with a bang in 2025 when all of them would have completed their military service.

I'm 57 years old, and this does remind me of Michael Jackson, and I just love this. Yes it's fresh to me. I am a BTS ARMY, and I have a wide range of music that I've loved over the years, and BTS and the members have a wide range of music and their influences are older music, Hip Hop, R&B, and very much Michael Jackson. Jungkook is the main vocalist for BTS and he is also in the dance line. But in the early days 2013, Jungkook used to rap as well as dance. BTS are Global Superstars, and they actually paved the way for K-Pop to have a Global Platform, especially in the USA. BTS is not broken up. All seven of them have dropped albums since 2022, because they have to fullfill their mandatory military service. As a matter of Fact, the last four enlisted yesterday and Today. JIMIN and JUNGKOOK enlisted today. And they will be coming back together as a group when all seven have completed their 18 months of service in 2025.

So can all the other BTS members. This is done in my generation. I’m 65 and the minute the bass and drums kicked in I thought omg this is Funk! I love it but it speaks to all generations bc it’s so catchy. My 26 yr old granddaughter liked it as well as my great granddaughter who’s 8. lol This crosses all generations and genre. I liken the sound of this song to the kind of thing that MJ was doing for his "Off The Wall" album... some people have also said it sounds like Daft Punk, but then again, that's because Daft Punk's sound is funky... I am 24 and an ARMY, I fell in love with BTS when I was starting college around 2018. I absolutely ADORE all the members. My bias is Suga and bias wrecker is V but Jungkook pulls my focus almost EVERY time he drops music. As a younger generation, we do recognize that each of the members pull inspo from different centuries so when this came out I immediately knew that it was an older style inspo he pulled from. While it sounds fresh, it also gives a feel of reminiscence. ALSO I think BTS was just referenced in a Michael Jackson documentary? I remember hearing about it but I have yet to personally check it out!

Not sure if you are familiar with the sketchy old series Yacht Rock. It was a super low budget comedy series telling the story of the advent of smooth music starting with Christopher Cross ‘Sailing’ all the way through to Michael Jackson and Van Halen. This episode is about Michael McDonald betting Kenny Loggins 10 bucks that his song will go top 10. The intro is a bit shady for this one but the episode is funny. kzbin.info/www/bejne/np_EmXaloZifjtUsi=ZuqhLAoa1l6eUyJP

Love your review. Nice to see a grown man from another country totally getting this at such a deep level in the way so many of us did in various places and with different connections to BTS, K-Pop etc! I really enjoyed your analysis- as a 49 year old America psychologist, the break down of the references of the music and the analogy of this song being almost a history lesson in action really rang true for me. Great review! Also, it’s just a great song. Always fun to see someone getting grabbed by it the way we were the first ten times we watched it as Army.
