I remember reading a fan fiction that revealed Bonbon was a Changeling hiding among ponies hence how she was able to change her voice in early episodes. That fic from what I recall was about Changelings living in hiding among ponykind until their existence was revealed during Canterlot Wedding. Brony peak days were wild and I miss them very much

She was kinda confirmed to be obsessed with ponies in EqG. There's EqG short where Lyra fights BonBon over something (forgoe) and one of the costumes Lyra uses to one up Bon, is basically pony costume of herself(I think it's herself) Ain't that a bad obsessed with her ponysona? 😅

One thing I love about Lyra is, she used to be a blank canvas, and Hasbro initially never saw her as another thing more than just a background pony. People noticed her. Hasbro gave her a name, then the fandom gave her a Surrname. People saw her sitting oddly, so they gave her personality. Then a Relationship, took some time but Hasbro accepted. With that, also Bon Bon/Sweetie Drops received her own personality... Thanks to Lyra. The Background Six are the ultimate proof of how much Power the fandom had during G4

I think the whole "push and pull" between Hasbro's merchandise names and fanon names is really interesting. Like, most of the early toys were clearly inspired by some of the background designs, but the names never matched what fans would call them. Some things Hasbro accepted and changed the names on the merchandise, which is a pretty big nod since those new names would likely need trademarking. And the fandom eventually adapted to the names Hasbro never budged on, like Minuette. And of course Lyra Heartstrings is when there's basically an undiscussed compromise. It might be a hard topic to cover, but I would love someone to chronical a lot of these character names and how they evolved and such. I imagine a lot of information is lost to time. It was funny to me when Hasbro finally accepted the name DJ PON3, just for the fandom to have already given her another name: Vinyl Scratch. Then a few months later I saw comments from young fans saying "her name isn't DJ PON3, it's Vinyl Scratch" on Hasbro social media as if they didn't just try throwing the fans a bone already. Which brings me to another topic that can be covered: fans that were into the fandom before/without watching the source material. It happened with a lot of characters and ideas, but Button Mash was probably the biggest one. Some fans were shocked when they discovered Button Mash was actually a character design that existed in the show first. When the Christmas album came out and there was a song sung by a unknown character called Pop Fly, a lot of fans speculated it to be Button Mash because it "sounds like him". Which is hilarious since Button Mash not only doesn't have a canon voice, but also doesn't even have a canon name.

Lyra actually has a TON of information about her.. She's seen jumping on a cloud in cloudsdale during the flyer competition. This shows that she knows the cloud walking spell. She's a "gifted unicorn" and part of the unicorn 6. (the mane 6 unicorns that Celestia tried to set up with twilight.. Lemon hearts, moon dancer, Lyra, twinkle shine, minuet, then either sunset or twilight as the leader... sounds like Celestia was planning something there.)

The fact the fandom was so potent in even early 2011 that there was a theory about Sweetie Belle's family during the month-long gap between Call of the Cutie and Stare Master where Sweetie Belle was revealed to be Rarity's sister speaks for itself. I can accept the theory from 'Anthropology' that Lyra is actually a human fallen to Equestria being a baby and transformed to a pony by Celestia. This is a very catching idea I'd like to use in my own fanfic I'm writing now.

@@foxxyytofficial My idea is that in her research on anthropology (under the auspices of the Office of Interministry Affairs), Lyra came to the conclusion that the whole world of ponies is a fiction embodied by Lauren Faust. Then the zebra bombs fell, and later she discovered the existence of the Fallout Equestria fandom, in which she now had to live as a ghoul. Lyra hated the human world for the way they treated her world, and developed a mega-curse to destroy it, as if it did not exist at all. In the fictional universe, time is plastic in relation to the base, so for 200 years of the post-apocalypse for ponies, about 10 years have passed in the human world. Lera found out that her human relatives died during the riots in 2020, and she had no ties to the world of Earth left. And just according to the plot of my fan fiction, she is looking for an energy source, powerful enough to launch the spell. In addition, she wants to cancel the war with zebras thrown into the lore by humans, and for this she has a time travel spell which also requires more energy than the whole Equestria has. And also, actually she is straight, her relationship with Bon Bon is a rumor spread by detractors from the OIA to discredit her research.

There is a second fanfiction about Lyra that is nearly as popular as Anthropology. It is called Backgroundpony. In it Lyra is curesed such as everycreatur is constantly forgetting her actions and her existence. I can highly recommend Backgroundpony. It is by far one of the best fanfiction that I have ether read or heard as an audiobook (in my top 5 of over 500 fanfictions know).

I stopped watching this video when the Anthropology song played to go and read it and it's unironically really good... The premise is weird but it delivers on everything it sets out to do. Lyra's friends were pretty likeable characters and their roles in the story as well as their dialog had a nice flow. There was actually some really good tension (and a few logical and cool twists and reveals) at times and there was always plenty of incentive to read the next chapter since the story direction never felt repetitive. The author somehow made me as a reader feel like I was in Lyra's position and it really helps to get immersed and experience things from her perspective. I actually got chills from the ending speech as well, the climax to the main conflict was so well done even though everything happened so quickly. It really does a good job in letting you use your imagination for the visuals of the story. Not just at the end either, the entire story is really fun to read. There were a few things that could have been done better (like, in the epilogue Bon Bon was a bit more dismissive than I would have liked) and it's a little cliche sometimes but all the characters, the pacing and the direction of the story were super tight (not a single chapter felt stale or wasn't memorable) and it was a genuinely enjoyable read (I literally did an accidental all-nighter because I couldn't stop reading it lol). Essentially, there were far more positives than negatives. I unironically think that Anthropology is better written than Equestria Girls. It plays off the original show really well while feeling like it could have easily been canon, had the show committed to a few things differently (no spoilers). edit: removed some spoilers

In great parts due to the Anthropologist song and Lyra's design, Anthropology was one of the few Brony fics I've actually read especially given how long spanning it was But I really appreciate and enjoyed it, especially since the Author went to great lengths to fit their story with show canon at the time. Though I much prefer the first and second act over the last where the author kind of fumbled the ball trying to conclude it

I really enjoyed your video and as someone who joined the fandom in 2019, the tail end of the show, I have alot to catch up about the lore and ideas, the fans had came up with. Though I do know A good amount of things but I like to learn more, so I have two separate suggestions for future MLP History videos. First being characters both canon and fanon from Vinyl Scratch, Octavia Melody, Dr. Hooves, Carrot Top, Trixie, Spitfire, Soarin, Fancy Pants, Fleur De Lis, Braburn, Flash Sentry, Startswirl the Bearded, Pipsqueak, Dinky Do, Rumble, Tinder Tabs, Babs Seed, First Base, Pound Cake, Carrot Cake, Princess Flurry Heart, Prince Blueblood, Princess Luna, Nightmare Moon, Queen Chrysalis, King Sombra, Discord and Tempest Shadow. To like Fausticorn, Bonniecorn, Nyx, Cream Heart, Princess Skyla, Rainbow Blaze, Sweetie Bot, Screwball, Anon and the many nextgen children of the canon and noncanon characters. Secondly the Fanbase’s Interpretations and worldbuilding of the MLP Universe. Like with the History of Equestria as a nation state, along with the many other countries existing thought up by fans, bringing in characters and concepts from the previous generations of MLP into G4, the countless sentient and nonsentient creatures the fans brought into the Equestria, from creatures with mythological origins to made up creatures like the Spider and Tetzelponies, the many different ideas of who’s related to who, from the concepts of who is the parents of like Applejack, Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo to the fanon families made of many different ponies who, look similar or showed up alot together the most famously being the Hooves family. And that’s everything I’ve got phew, hopefully you find inspiration in my ideas.

Since G5 is canon to G4 (as much as many fans including myself hate) maybe that means previous generations are also canon to each other with just many centuries in between... If this is true then it'll explain why humans became a myth in the first place. They used to exist in G1 afterall so maybe they just died out one day and became nothing but a story that was passed down from generation to generation until one day Lyra came across the almost forgotten tale...

On the whole clone problem, i always just thought of it as being related to having dominant or recessive traits. Maybe having a lyre mark or a teal coat are dominant traits while having something like rainbow hair or an unusual bodyshape were recessive. Also i just like to think of the "accidental alicorns" as people with the equivalent of an extra didget. Very THERE, but it doesn't work at all.

2:32 well if you think of the jump from gen 6 to gen 7 as indicating that each gen of MLP is actually a massive time skip, we can trace all the way back to gen 1 where the ponies did interact with humans sometimes. Add this to the equestria girls spin off conveying that there's just this one mirror that teleports folks to a world with humans in it we can posit the theory that, as with the Telmarines in C.S. Lewis's the chronicals of Narnia, in ancient times, a portal opened in Equestria which allowed humans to travel there from where they lived before. Perhaps trying to settle or even colonise the new land. Either way, some of them were corrupted or changed by the magic they found there, becoming monsters which threatened the land. We can see this by the fact that Gen 1 Tyrek is a magic warped human, (and he lives in a castle, which is historically a type of buildimg you only use when you're trying to assert military control over hostile territory) and we see in the equestria girls show also that magic very frequently causes physical mutations in humans who use it. This provides an explaination for both why Lyra would know about humans (oral history, archeology, old history books etc) and explain why humans arent present in the setting any more, *and* why the princesses just have this big techno magic mirror portal in one of their rooms because of course since these magically mutated humans caused so much damage to the world they would want to contain any avenue by which they could return. They may even have been trying to find a way to streamline the effect of the magic on people, given that the portal through the mirror converts human world organisms into pony world organisms and vis a versa.

even though animators did reuse the models cause flash can be a nightmare to animate with especially in the 2010's. It wasn't as bad as g3- like their body and hair were the same with just changed colours. I supposed the mlp generation 3 dolls did have similar hair too so maybe that was partly why the hair was the same creating the g3 show, but even on the dolls there was still some variation in the styles of manes which had to kinda be "brushable."

I believe that one of the reasons LyraBon became a thing among bronies was the designs themselves. Lyra has a sharp edged mullet that can be translated into a butch boyish cut and BonBon has curls which is mostly imagined as wavy long hair. As much a stretch as it is and no matter how stereotypical it sounds, they fit the pop culture, retraux lesbian couple in appearance: the butch and the femme.
