She should not be hanging out with 10-12 year olds as a friend. If she was 23 and her friend was in their thirties that’s different

I have a younger cousin whom I love and care so much, we have a very big age gap and let me tell you something you can in fact make a great friendship with someone younger than you in your DAY to DAY life. @@irisv18 this is so true. i have friends my same age but there times when i feel more comfortable hanging out with their younger siblings bc people my age are getting married and starting a family and all into the adult life, i cannot relate to that. i still think i’m a kid at heart and hanging out with younger friends is like an escape for me, with them i don’t have to “act my age” or wtv and there’s no judgement. ppl might say i’m immature for this but it’s my life and as long as i’m not hurting anyone with my choices i don’t see why it’s a problem at all.

You sure would be confused if u were talking to a nearly 30-year-old saying they were best friends with a 12-year-old. I would see nothing wrong with family being close to each other but considering they arent related at all i do find it odd. hanging out constantly with an adult as a pre-teen would definitely not be healthy - mentoring is something but telling them everything and acting as if they are the same age is simply wrong.

I think there can be instances where friendships transcend time. It's just unfortunate that there are terrible people in society who have taken advantage of minors and have reframed our thinking. However, post-college, many of your colleagues and friends will be many years older (I work with people who are my parent's age or beyond), and similar interests can forge friendships. Many movies come out of friendships with people who have a great age difference (think Good Will Hunting) I can understand why to some this feels not great, but I think I want to ask, if it's really the friendship that bothers you, or if you're bothered because there have been stories in the news of people who have committed crimes and defiled the definition of "friendships" (none of which is what they are doing). I think it's great that she and he are both so open minded about the concept of friends despite the social stigma surrounding it.
