The shrine was built when I attended Mother Cabrini High School. I graduated in 1961. There was a small chapel in the middle of our school, and that was where her earthly remains could be viewed, before they built the shrine. There was a big ceremony when they moved her body from the small chapel to the shrine in 1960 or 1961. It was a wonderful Catholic school for girls, and my years there were precious.

Frances Xavier Cabrini M.S.C. (Italian: Francesca Saverio Cabrini; July 15, 1850 - December 22, 1917), also called Mother Cabrini, was an Italian-American Roman Catholic nun. She founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a Catholic religious institute that was a major support to her fellow Italian immigrants to the United States. She was the first U.S. citizen to be canonized as a saint by the Roman Catholic Church, on July 7, 1946.

Just a side note for the teno people. If it is the group I am thinking of Columbus actually didn't have anything to do with that. He left some men behind while he went somewhere else, when came back all of that event happened. He WAS NOT a happy man and was very grieved. Unfortunately his hands were kind of tied at the point because he needed that crew to get back across the sea. If it is what I am thinking of. History books can and probably have been tampered with. School history books only teach you what the government wants you to know. That is why I love researching on my own. I think there should be both an indigenous people day and a Columbus day. This from a person who has roots everywhere, from over seas white countrys, Africa, and all of the America's. Let's just say my family is a prime example of immigration and non racism lol.
