Every one of us has an obligation to hurl back insults against the people of God. - Maximillian Kolbe. 1 Peter 3:9 'Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this end you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.''

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 01:01 📜 Maximilian Kolbe exemplified living the faith fully, becoming a "living rule" as the old Benedictines described, committing completely to God's word. 01:57 🏠 Born in 1894 as Raymond, Kolbe's parents were a weaver and midwife. He had a vision at 12 where Mary offered him crowns of martyrdom and chastity. 03:06 📖 Kolbe joined the Conventual Franciscans, was ordained in 1918, and founded the Militia Immaculata to consecrate the Franciscan order to Mary and spread devotion. 07:50 🌏 His missionary work thrived in challenging environments like Japan and Nagasaki, where he established a seminary and promoted Mary's devotion through magazines. 09:26 ⛓️ Kolbe's heroic act in Auschwitz involved volunteering to die in place of another prisoner, exemplifying charity and sacrificial love. 11:28 🕊️ He died a martyr of charity, giving his life for another human being, and was canonized by Pope John Paul II in 1982. 12:46 🌍 The video contrasts Kolbe's witness of sacrificial love with the contemporary issues of abortion, emphasizing the value of human life and the need for such witnesses today. Let's get the facts straight about the Two Crowns please: We know that in Pabianice around 1905, little Raymund Kolbe had a vision of Blessed Mother after his own mom scolded him for some reason, with the words, What will ever become of you. At the Church altar dedicated to Our Lady of Victories, the boy prayed and saw Our Lady offering two crowns one red one white, which he understood to mean purity and martyrdom. There was never the question which of the 2 crowns he wanted. It was an all or nothing deal. We know this from a letter of his mom Mariannna Kolbe in 1941. Unfortunately, there are many mistakes written in the various biographies out there that then are recopied. This notion about a choice was from one of the first authors I believe Maria Winowska, who wrote that Blessed Mother offered him two crowns and he took both. Afterwards, people read into it thinking that if he chose both then there must have been a choice between which one. In my 26 years of dealing with St Maximilian in the archives, I have come across this misunderstanding often. In reflection, the two crowns go together. A martyr means witness which all Christians are called to be of Christ. We must become pure of heart and/or becomes purified through the act of martyrdom. While to be pure of heart is a white marytrdom in itself in whatever state of life, religious married single. That is why there is a Purgatory because only the pure can bear to be in the Most Holy Presence of God…..Now, what if the Immaculate Mediatrix of All graces as Mother of the Church , more or less to a certain degree, through this very testimony of the then child Raymund Kolbe, is in fact offering these two crowns to each of us Her children? These are Her own regal crowns which She wishes to share with us. Will you accept the crown of purity and the crown of martyrdom?

letter of Marianna Kolbe to Niepokalanow in 1941. "I knew ahead of time, based on an extraordinary event that took place in his childhood, that Maximilian would die a martyr. I just don't recall if it took place before or after his first confession. Once I did not like something he had done and I reproached him for it: ‘My son, whatever will become of you?!’ Later, I did not think of it again, but I noticed that the boy had changed so radically, he was hardly recognizable. We had a small altar hidden between two dressers before which he used to often retire without being noticed and he would pray there crying. In general, he had a conduct superior to his age, always recollected and serious and when he prayed he would burst into tears. I was worried, thinking he had some sort of illness so I asked him: ‘Is there anything wrong? You should share everything with your mommy!’ Trembling with emotion and with his eyes flooded in tears, he shared: ‘Mama, when you reproached me, I pleaded with the Blessed Mother to tell me what would become of me. At Church I did the same; I prayed the same thing again. (He was referring to St. Matthew's Church in Pabianice.) So then the Blessed Mother appeared to me holding in her hands two crowns: one white the other red. She looked at me with tenderness and asked me if I wanted these two crowns. The white one signified that I would preserve my purity and the red that I would be a martyr. I answered that I accepted them. Then the Virgin Mary looked at me with sweetness and disappeared.’ The extraordinary change in the boys' behavior testified to me the truth of what he related. He was fully conscious and as he spoke to me, with his face radiating; it showed me his desire to die a martyr.”

Let's get the facts straight about Julius Kolbe. He did not have German ancestry. St. Maximilian Kolbe father’s side of the family ancestors came from the Slavic Bohemian lands of what is now Czech: namely his great-great grandfather Warzyniec Kolbe and his great-grandfather Paul Kolbe. His grandfather, John Kolbe was born and raised in Poland. Julius Kolbe married Marianna Dabrowska and they had five sons: Francis, Raymond, Joseph, Valenty and Anthony. The last two youngest died when they were just babies. Raymond, the second after Francis, was born January 8, 1894 in Zdunska Wola, Poland which at that time was occupied by Russia. On that same day he was baptized in the parish Church of "The Assumption of the Virgin Mary" in the Lodz diocese. He would later be given the religious name - Maximilian Maria. In this same church, he would have his Confirmation. His patron saint for Confirmation was St. Leonard. The Kolbe family were hardworking class weavers. Marianna and Julius gave their three lively boys a strong Catholic and Polish patriotic upbringing . Since their parents belonged to the Third Order Franciscans, St. Francis was their ideal. Poland during this time in history had been partitioned under Prussian and Russian rule. Though Poland was off the map of Europe, the country and its citizens didn't vanish nor did their fighting spirit for freedom and independence. They made sure to pass down their heritage, culture, language and faith to their children. Marianna had wanted to become a religious nun, but Russian policy was to close convents and deter Catholicism. Since it was not possible, she had prayed for a good husband which she found in Julius. He did not drink or smoke. He was a joyful soul who liked song and music. He wrote words to a Hymn for workers that was published. He was very much involved in the Church and instilled in his boys a great love for Poland and for Our Lady. Francis inherited the music side, while Joseph wrote poetry, Raymond was into math and sketches but they all liked to sing.
