Agreed. Characters being gods or a deity of some kind doesn’t make them bad characters, but it can cheapen them if it isn’t an original part of their lore. This is an issue personally for Optimus, making it feel like he didn’t really “earn” his title of leadership.

I think this needs to be the last “Jesus Prime” take on Optimus for awhile though, I grew up with the aligned continuity but it’s depiction of Optimus has been the go-to for the last decade and I’d like to see something different again, possibly how TFA did things with Optimus just being a regular soldier

Tfa is my jam and etc. But Optimuses character in that show feels more like Rodimus. Heck, he even got leadership from Ultra Magnus later, similar to Rodimus with Optimus. SCRAPPED SEASON 4 EVEN HAS A SİMİLAR DEATH SCENE WİTH ULTRA MAGNUS.

I really think that Optimus should stay as the 13th but not the way you think. I think TFOne leaned more onto the humble origin story so I got a compromise: I don’t like Zeta being the 13th so get rid of him & give Prima the Matrix & make him Leader (just like he is in every other continuity) , Sentinel pretends to be the 13th after he killed the Primes, but when he’s dead & Optimus receives the matrix, he becomes the true 13th Prime. That will also symbolize that Optimus has been fully incarnated into the Warrior of Light (since he has Primas T-cog & the Matrix) & Megatron as the Warrior of Darkness (has Megatronus T-Cog) & in the idw version, the 13th Prime was only known as “The Arisen” & when Alpha Trion says “Arise Optimus Prime” it can be a cool callback to the IDW comics. Look I just like being consistent & this would actually be the middle ground.

I quite like the idea that the actual 13th Prime, or at least their essence, is embedded within the Zodiac, and Optimus has taken on their power to achieve his Star Optimus Prime/Star Convoy form. I also didn't realise that his vehicle mode was like an amalgamation of the original Optimus and Rodimus Prime - nice detail. I'm excited for the new toy. With it being both cheaper and smaller than most modern Titans, this might be the first Titan class toy I buy.

For your last question, yes, I do think *Battle Star Optimus Prime* is a way better name than just Star Optimus Prime. Imagine getting toys of Super/Ultra Megatron and Dark Nova in the Age of the Primes toyline, with them combining into the Star Giant. (Not counting the Generations Selects Super Megatron).

4:48 Grandus here and Dug Base in vehicle mode are actually among the parade platforms seen on Cybertron (Grandus carried Sentinel Magnus, Percptor and Ultra Magnus while Dug Base carried their prisoners) and a hologram of Dai Atlas' burst can be seen in Yoketron's dojo, though apparently he studied fencing under him instead of any of the known cybertronian matrial arts. Also Dai Atas is actually a fencing rival of Star Saber who also studied fencing under Yoketron and a hologram of his Burst is also seen in the show. Drift, Springer and even Ultra Magnus also trained in melee weapons under Yoketron.

The 13th Prime whose ability is reincarnation, who realised early on, as powerful as the Primes were, there was always the chance of corruption, betrayal, or being overwhelmed by sheer numbers, and so surrendered their physical form to be reincarnated again and again through the generations, to act as a beacon of hope in dark times, and to remind their fellow Primes of humility and their connection to the other 'children' of Primus, would be an interesting twist. Optimus is the 13th, but he's still fundamentally Optimus. The 13th simply records and, under extreme circumstances, offers guidance and wisdom to their incarnations, and it is that connection both to the later generations of Transformers, and the spiritual connection to the other Primes, that binds Primes and Transformers together. Every Cybertronian who was an incarnation of the 13th is linked in some form or fashion to the Matrix of Leadership, both as a potential stand-in should Zeta (or whichever Prime ended up with the Matrix) fall or be corrupted, and to ensure that Zeta has a connection to and the context of what the Non-Prime Cybertronians are dealing with. Optimus being both the incarnation of the 13th and the wielder of the Matrix of Leadership effectively creates something of a feedback loop, making Orion/Optimus/the 13th's connection to the memories and influence of the Matrix much stronger while also giving him access to the abilities of all those who were touched by the Matrix, including Zeta's axe, now re-worked to be physically part of him so a Prime can never be disarmed by treachery or happenstance, and possibly the abilities of the other incarnations, who may not have been Primes themselves, but might have had unique abilities of their own, such as Empathic powers, or the ability to interface with machinery, or basically, Bullshit of the Week Powers, that can help Optimus on his journey and his rivalry with D-16/Megatron/Galvatron.

@@RodimusPrimal I mean, this is a young Optimus Prime, one that's noble-hearted and trying to do good, but incredibly inexperienced in the political arena and is going to have to rebuild a brutally stratified 'Caste'-based society after however many Cycles under Sentinel's corrupt and authoritarian grip. And that's not including the threat of the Quintessons, Megatron and his newly re-branded Decepticon High Guards, lingering sympathizers to Sentinel, cause he had the charisma, but I doubt he could rip the cogs out of thousands of protoforms and nobody would notice, so there's got to be a shadow cult or cabal of Cybertronians who either agreed with him or were willing co-conspirators in his plots. Also notice that Optimus does not put out his banger of 'Freedom is the right of all Sentient Beings'. He's young and focused on Cybertron and the Autobots. And he's still caught up in the hero-worship of the Primes ... but that system failed, hard, and had no backups other than 'go into planetary shut-down until somebody shows up who fits the bill'. Optimus, being young and idealistic, might be the Prime who branches out and creates new systems to protect Cybertron and her people. There might always have to be 13 Primes ... but that doesn't mean it has to be the ORIGINAL 13 Primes all the time. They might re-incarnate and become new Cybertronians who are guided by destiny back to their roles with new insights and new ways of thinking, we could get a Power of the Primes-like situation where the Spirits/Sparks of the Primes act as spiritual mentors to new Primes, and might not give a damn about Autobot/Decepticon/Neutral political lines, only that their successor can do the job, is willing to do that job above all other concerns, and has the powers and skills necessary to protect Cybertron and her citizens from all threats, both without and within. Optimus isn't just the fail-safe to make sure there is always a Prime on standby no matter what happens, he's also the catalyst for change as since he is constantly reincarnated when he is taken offline, he comes back into Cybertron with the mindset and needs of the current generation, not the Primes who are, by this stage, potentially millions of Cycles old and so set in their ways they may not be able to change course, politically or otherwise. That story arc of learning that the past is great, but it was never perfect, could be a big tipping point for taking Optimus from youthful inexperience to hard-earned wisdom, because all the advice and knowledge of the Primes is indeed invaluable ... but it is limited in scope. New Primes have to be selected to fill the other 12 seats, and Optimus may have to struggle with who he'll have to accept as a fellow Brother or Sister Prime to bring Cybertron back up to strength and restore the balance of the world.

With a franchise like Transformers, I feel the best aspect is that each lore is set to a certain continuity, so it's not necessarily a concrete thing that requires a retcon. I like Optimus being the everyman civilian/soldier who rises to greatness, but I could also see a place for the divine/destiny route. I wonder if Optimus being a direct descendant of the 13th rather than a reincarnation would be a good middle ground? I would love to have an english print of the Legends manga though. 😂

This is an amazing video. Thank you. I appreciated when we finally got the English translation from.the viz manga collections a couple years ago. I don't know if there will be any media for the Age of Primes, but I'd love to get an animated film or short series that tells the stories of the 13 Primes, but also covers the events of Return of Convoy. Having the 12 Primes and their objects be the only way to restore Optimus to life then face Super Megatron and eventually Dark Nova/Star Giant with the other Primes there to rally around Star Optimus Prime.

Something about Japanese TFs embracing the Super Robot design of Japanese mecha will always be the rule of cool to me. 3:40, still pretty cool sounding name for a planet. 4:04, is he more powerful than an Ultra Pretender? We'll never know. 6:44, this is accurate to history where artists and sculptors back then would make impressions of figures and people under the pretense of people who had waaay vivid imaginations which was why something like the Kirin (a giraffe mistaken for a horned dragon), ancient monsters and other things were drawn in history. The artists were either bad artists, people they got the descriptions from were panicking or both. So Prime looking like that was accurate because the Cybertronian sculptor was like ancient artists in real life. I would've called him Ultimate Optimus but it's a-ok in my books that Star Prime is now canon. 7:21, it's insane this design LOOKS like a well-done 3rd Party design and not an official design and yet, looks to be more better than the 3rd party Primorion toy from years ago. INSANE! 9:00, well...let's say the Matrix has many and many uses and roles too which leadership of the Autobots is one of the perks but that's just me. 10:14, to think the Matrix was...a FRACTION of what the Zodiac's full power is and all it took was opening pieces of the Matrix to kill Unicron who's just powerful as all hell?! That's some crazy-ass lore. 10:26, this is a tribute to Magami Ban and Masumi Kaneda - the OG Writers of Japanese G1 lore. This is for you 2! As much as people give a lot of flack to Headmasters, I grew up watching Headmasters and never regretted ever doing so. 11:12, I think Ultimate Optimus would be a suitable name imo or Optimus Maximus.

10:27 In the Japanese contunity, the Silver Matrix is _not_ the Matrix of Leadership but the most powerful matrix of the Primus Vanguard in the Precursor World of the Transformers Legends comics and became the Zodiac at the creation of the G1 World. It's also what Super Megatron used to become Ultra Megatron and later used it with Blue Big Convoy's α Matrix to become Ultra Megtron Omega in Generations Selects Special Comic.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, bud! I see things a little differently....at least for my own head cannon. If Optimus were to become 'Star Convoy' it would be under very different circumstances and would be a temporary form. Or one he could re-assume depending on the need.} I also do personally see Optimus as the 13th Prime....but not quite as sometimes depicted. I like the idea of Autonomous Maxiumus being the original bearer of the title but it is then passed on to a young bot originally named 'Star'. He then is renamed Orion Pax and then becomes Optimus Prime. I would also do the 13 Primes a little differently. Or at least, there would still be a 'succession' of sorts from Prima, the first Matrix Bearer to later Optimus Prime. I had done some reading via Wiki a while ago to learn who some of the different Primes were before Optimus or even Sentinel and found one named Primon - though I think he is just another version of Prima from a separate story line. But I like to think there were different Primes in different eras leading up to first Sentinel and then to Optimus. I also like to think that, unlike Transformers One, Dark of the Moon or some other stories, that Sentinel was not a villain. He becomes a worthy Matrix Bearer though is young and a bit like the Sentinel from Transformers Animated in attitude. I was really sad in Transformers One when Alpha Trion died. And sooooo soon! But I liked how the Primes ALL died in battle rather than the 'War of the Primes' idea from many portions of the Aligned Continuity. I also borrow the idea from one of the other series that Optimus and Magnus are brothers, twins, and that they each had different names originally. They are both sent to the future to protect them, so it wouldn't be quite like what the Aligned Continuity does. I am still rethinking some ideas on how the Primes fell in my own personal head cannon....but I like the idea that maybe they DIDN'T die, or at least not all of them. Specifically Solus Prime and Megatronus Prime. I STILL don't see him as the bad guy among the Primes. I still see Liege Maximo that way and maybe HE could still be the reason the Primes fell but were not necessarily destroyed. Where they ended up going to I don't know yet. But it's fun to imagine the possibilities.

This was great, but no mention of the deep law as to why the new Star Optimus Prime comes with Micromaster Hot Rod according to Slag Podcast when Hot Rod left in Japanese’s cartoons…. He became leader of planet micro and the merger of the his matrix & zodiac with Optimus prime is why his included as a merger of the final 2 matrix holders…. Can you cover this in a video at some point please sounds really interesting!

See I've had a head canon for a couple months that the 13th prime is a new take on Omega Prime from RID 2001. But after hearing the name Autonomous Maximus that sounds way better. Also Star Optimus should be a final form for when Optimus has the power of the other primes like in RID 2015.

Confession time... when I was a kid in the 90's I bought a transforming robot toy from a toy store that was going out of business. There was lots of Japanese writing on the package and it had Autobot stickers on it so I picked it up but I thought it was some weird bootleg or knockoff, the stores were flooded with them. We didn't have the internet back then and I knew nothing about Japanese Transformers. It was Sky Garry. I blew him up with fireworks on the 4th of July. 🤦‍♂🤦‍♂🤦‍♂
