Mossy Oak Camo has always been a little darker on the spectrum but I still think its a good pattern. I use both RT and MO and never had any issues with either. And I would still choose them over the “modern” camo patterns any day. They all look like Van Gogh painting on acid to me.

I still use some of my father's realtree original camo and it works just as well as anything new, them deer cant see the details anyway, they get close enough to notice what pattern you have on then you proably shouldnt be hunting lol

Real tree edge wins.. I do like the mossy oak patterns while up against a tree or with a dark background but I'm usually sitting still while in position. I like the edge camo in case I walk up on deer to and from my stands or if I'm just still hunting because the lighter pattern works better on the Forrest floor here in the north east and mid west.

They both did well gonna give a slight edge to Realtree, see what I did there lol 😆 I’d love to see the Vietnam Tiger Stripe Camo vs the old school duck camo, the one with the green, Black and Tan color combo!!

For my hunt areas, either one of these would work perfectly as they both performed well in their environments. In my opinion, RT definitely got better from Xtra to Edge and MO improved significantly from Country to DNA.

A little dark is better. All fabric fades with time...and most of the time, you are going to be up against a trunk, which favors DNA. The producer of this video didn't have any DNA against a trunk, where 90% of hunters will be, and where it clearly wins.

You should've taken them out into your own area and took real time photos with the natural light and shadows. I was a realtree user for years when ap and Xtra were the tops. I got caught by deer in a tree or turkeys on the ground making small movements. I just gave it I wasn't smart in that moment. Around 4yrs ago when bottomland made a big come back I tried it. I did several comparisons with RT edge, timber, MO country, and new and og bottomland in the woods where I hunt. I set them up in trees and ground level and backed up to 60yds. ALL mossy oak patterns won hands down. I sold all my RT. All the RT had much more sold browns or brighter shades that stuck out in my woods of primarily oaks. I've even converted a few friends that have agreed that since going to MO we've seen a change of animals viewing our appearance. Imo bottomland is hands down the best. This was a great vid and the time you put into it had to be a lot. Thank you. I just urge you try it for yourself in the real world bc that changes from computer based images I promise greatly.

Yes, totally agree about real light and shadows. Often the colors from the catalog images are just “not right”. There are so many factors to fully evaluate a pattern but movement, sound and wind are the best defense. The idea is to get you going in the right direction or at least thinking about all the great patterns out there and ones that work in the most situations. Very good information, thanks so much! I hunt tree stand, still hunt, ground hunt and my area change from the whitetail thick woods to the open high deserts in the rocky mountains and that how all this started. All information helps! It also depends on the fabric that the pattern is printed on. Sometimes, the jacket is too vinyl-ish and reflects light, and the pattern itself is too vibrant on that sort of material. But, on a quality Redhead coat or jacket or pair of trousers, EDGE is a phenomenal pattern. I'm gonna chalk it up to that, or you being in a poor location or moving too much, because I've worn Realtree for decades and it's only gotten better at concealment, breakup, and mimicry. With AP, I got within yards of deer and turkeys, and with XTRA I've gotten within feet; had a whole flock of turkeys with chicks come within 10' of me while I was sitting against the base of a maple tree in a very open maple woods. You might also smell funny lol No offense, but a lot of people go out of their way to spray themselves and their gear with products meant to erase scent, but all that does is add it. Hell, just yesterday I walked up on two different deer while just cruising down a 4 wheeler trail while wearing Woodland camo pants and a green sweater, and I had to smell like deodorant, cologne, and smoke but neither deer spooked.

I like Mossy Oak, but after trying to educate myself on deer vision I think it's probably too dark. I hunt in a tree stand in hardwoods. Seems like camo that's a little lighter would be better. I've been considering trying out the Strata camo. I watched your video on it. Seemed to do really well and very versatile throughout the year.

Strata is a good pattern because of the break up ability it has. From my point of view, not many patterns really take deer vision into account when designing a pattern. And yes, in the tree, fighting the blob effect is very tough and almost all patterns become useless when back lit with the sky. I hope to be addressing this and filming new deer vision videos to help us all understand what they may be seeing.

Edge really ended the conversation for me. It’s the whites in it. There actually is a lot of white in the woods and that is what is missing from mossy oak. Same thing with sitka. Yeah it looks funny to us, but it blends so well from prey distance.
