I love Daleks rebelling against their nature. I personally think all daleks have the possibility for change very deep within them.

I think what's most interesting is that this Dalek wasn't immediately destroyed. I do think that the TV series would massively benefit from Daleks being more compassionate and reasonable to other Daleks with a little more expression.

@@whatislife7363 it's a fascinating aspect of the original Dalek comics, the quirk that they seem a lot more reasonable and almost personable. The Emperor in particular. It's possibly just a quirk of the early Dalek characterisation, after all the Daleks did act very differently in their first episode, to the extent that the recent colourised version actually redubbed a lot of the dialogue to remove most of the un-Dalek-like lines. It would be interesting to see a Dalek character in the modern show who displayed more of these traits

@@mandyward5372 it's not clear, this particular comic comes from a strange phase of the TV 21 comics where the standard Dalek design was wildly inconsistent compared to how they appear on TV - whether that's a stylistic choice or an indication that their design changed over time is unclear

I loved that strip, just seeing daleks going round wearing flowers is cool. Also the one in a million dalek has a interesting casing. In some of the close ups his neck rings are different to others. the top half is a normal neck but the bottom part the mesh bit isnt visible, its a solid bit of metal. Have you done a video on the Masters of War Daleks in the unbound universe? I recently re listened to that audio and forgot how good it is, and that Davros created 2 races of Daleks, the first which would be known as renegades are the standard type of Dalek in the main universe, but the 2nd race which the doctor encountered on Skaro had pity and mercy. They also sought to protect the thals in a typical dalek way but not as dictators as a twisted guardians. They could also be reasoned with and did enter in a sort of peace with the thals.. I found them to be a really interesting take on the Daleks.

Originally the Daleks were meant to have a civilisation, with artists and gardeners. This chap would have fit right in.

I admire it. It has the courage to stand up against the Dalek regime in such a unique way. Not out of a hatred of the Daleks or an identity crisis but through an appreciation of the world around it. I think that's something we could all learn from. ❤

The Dalek unit is constrained by both the machine programming and the genetic tampering introduced by Davros to the mutant. Very occasionally there would be a rogue element, either software failure or a mutation back to a more balanced Kaled mind. Dalek inquisitors would hunt these down.

@anton2192 the Dalek Scientists definitely play a role in detecting non-conformities like this, and I imagine there's also a special class of Dalek like the Death Squad who hunt them down and exterminate them. Possibly a Dalek Inquisitor or Executioner

I actually kinda want to see more rogue Daleks like this, not ones that are just ‘Must exterminate all Daleks!’, but ones that simply just admire the world around them or enjoy things like flowers. I think it’d be interesting if we saw a similar rogue Dalek in the show.

This is nice coz it helps to flesh out that perhaps the Spy Dalek from power of the doctor was one such anomaly, perhaps not obvious for a long time as its brain reasoned out the realisation that the Dalek mission deviated from their original created purpose.

If 1 in every million daleks is inflicted with this "insanity," as long as the daleks commit the insane ones to the assylum there would be no problem. However, once the Daleks achieved Time Travel, they'd likely have come to regret not outright exterminating them, because it would only take 1 rogue dalek to collect an army of rogues from theoughout history, and grow a faction of rogues to start a civil war.

I like to think stuff like this is when the mental conditioning Davros bio-engineered is inactive either due to a genetic anomaly (this Dalek) or something strong enough to deactivate it (Caan). The Kaleds were fascists but they were still mentally human, though like humans they had their sociopaths (Davros)
