Zaheer didn’t master air bending “in a few weeks”. He had been studying the air nomad culture, their philosophies and air bending forms/stances/techniques his entire life. Thats established within the first few episodes of his debut. That’s why when the Harmonic Convergence happened he immediately knew that he could air bend as he had been training his body and mind around the culture and bending his entire life. So by the time he was able to air bend It was instinctual and ingrained into the very fiber of his being

Tbh I don't think so. Considering he bodied every single fire bender that came into the room within seconds and was only overpowered by comet-fueled Firelord Sozin himself, I'd say it was a fitting death. In the cartoon, it is not even clear if Sozin was present at the Southern Air Temple.

Tenzin legit had some of the sweetest moves in that series. I said "whew!" out loud so many times during his fight scenes. Jinora is just the best. You can tell she has water tribe in her background because she is so empathic and focused on healing connections and working together. Zaheer was a villain who you actually wanted to see switch to the good side because he wouldve been a great assest. Incredible knowledge that wouldve benefited the whole nation, if he wasn't absolutely diabolical. Gyatso is really that "f**k around and find out" energy. Just because he speaks peace doesnt mean he wont bring the war.

Monk Gyatso had one tragic and epic ending. Witnessing the fire benders attack with sozins comet would have been a nightmare. Killing lots of inexperienced benders off the initial assault. He probably was trying not to kill but survive/ draw the enemy's attention away from the children. Seeing all that death, from such peaceful people, knowing he is not going to make it, realized the forbidden air bending techniques he knows might save some monks fleeing. Then swoosh. Ejects the air from the lungs of everyone killing squads of fire benders as he succumbs to his wounds. Maybe even suffocating himself in the process.

Her Astro projection is never really seen in any other series of avatar currently.. and her connection to the spirits is incredible. I'm kinda conflicted on that way of killing the soldiers... I mean, if he were to do that, couldn't he at least keep air in his own lungs while the others suffocate? But again, if his dead body was next to the other soldier's bodies, we can only assume that: 1. They all died at the same time 2. The soldiers died first, and Gyatsu died of exhaustion (or just forgot to keep air for himself).

@@jammington24 what if, gyatso was meditating, trying to find Aang, spirit teleporting, as fast as he could but he could no longer sense him, Aang's spirit was in a sort of limbo state, Aang was already frozen. Meanwhile the temple was under siege by the fire nation, droves of fire soldiers were taking control of the temple, Gyatso in a sense abandoned his people because he became too attached to one, and now they were all falling. In his ethereal state he saw the pain and suffering his people had been suffering, he felt a deep sadness within him (kinda like the way the jedi feel a disturbance in the force). As he was coming back down he had the hope of making it back in time to help the others but it was apparent he had been too late, Gyatso was already grieving before he made it back to his body, perhaps if had come down sooner lives could have been spared. The events follow as mentioned above...

Also do you remember that time jinora and the air nomads, flew up to Zaheer and just beat him up to save Korra, because that definitely happened I mean like, milo was on an equal level to him, that's why it took ALL of the air nomads to defeat him. Or what about that time Korra and the air nomads flew after Zaheer when he attacked the air nomad temple, man that part was awesome.

That is why they attacked during the comet, firstly because its the only chance they had of killing the avatar & because it'd allow them to make a great push to further their plan. They didn't know how good Aang was at the time so more of a better safe then sorry thing.

It went down like this: He was ambushed and they all attacked at once. The Master then achieved something never done before, instead of creating an air bubble (like Aang did a few times underwater) he created a reverse air bubble. This massive vacuum chamber engulfed the entire room. Whirlwind going on all around just outside the sphere, firebenders in the distance blown back. The firebenders in the vacuum chamber collapse to the ground as he watches them begin to drift into unconsciousness. His victory is coming to end as you see, he himself could also no longer breathe. He lasts as long as he can until he to falls into unconsciousness and dies along with everyone else.

Zaheer never truly mastered Airbending. I’d put his skills at expert level at best. He even told Tenzin that it was an honor for him to meet Tenzin, because Tenzin was a TRUE Airbending Master, proof that’s he didn’t consider himself to be one at all.

@@KaiserReb probably just a reference to his increased mobility. Tenzin wouldn’t be able to hit him, while Zaheer would be able to hit Tenzin from any angle. Tenzin is still more skilled than Zaheer in practically every Airbending form, since he had a true formal training by Aang, that Last Airbending Master alive. Zaheer is completely self taught, and while he may know some of the Airbending forms, he mostly uses his own unique and unorthodox Airbending style by blending Airbending into his martial arts, thus making normally close quarter attacks into mid range attacks.

@@KaiserReb Zaheer Just has more maneuverability. Without flight he’d get washed by Tenzin, as we saw when they did have a one on one duel. So Tenzin is stronger than Zaheer. Plus you have to take into account the context of the situation: Tenzin was beat up by all four of the Red Lotus jumping him when he made the remark about Zaheer being too strong for him to fight right at that moment. In terms of pure Airbending skill, Zaheer is expert level at best, while Tenzin is the only Airbending Master in the world.

Gyatso could have instead been shot by lightning by Sozin, (something the royal fire family loved to do) after Gyatso took out the troops Creating a vacuum is something even Yangchen couldn't easily do, and she had a whole lot of raw airbending power too

I really like how every Air Bender has to come up with a new Air Bending technique to become a master (can be old, just so long as it's not a family trick, as in: Aang created the "air scooter," the ball of air he rode around on, and this was most likely something one of the previous Avatars came up with that he remembered _as_ the Avatar, and reintroduced something that had fallen out of use), but I love *even more* this idea that Tenzin's created technique had to do with baking cakes and making them _super_ airy/fluffy, lol

The creators of the show confirmed that the fire sages could nuke the entire world by holding their breathe long enough and channeling it during a comet. I like to believe Gyatso was surrounded by Combustion benders holding their breathe and ready to blast him during Sozin's comet and negated combustion bending vacuuming them instead.

There are at most three combustion benders in the world at a time. Probably just one or two at a time after Yangchen's time. They are exceedingly rare. For Gyatso to have been surrounded by them is highly doubtful. Also, Yangchen has a lot of raw airbending power, but even she could only create a vacuum in a room while out of active combat

Zaheer was talented and untrained? Wasn't he the most dangerous already in the red lotus group before they were initially locked up? A NONbender? The dude was likely the absolute pinnacle of hand to hand combat, and considering he studied air benders his whole life, he very likely incorporated air bender style combat in his fighting. Once he got his airbending it was showtime.

Tenzin was GOAT. He wasn’t the most powerful but he had the greatest responsibilities and expectations. He was the son of the Avatar and first of the possible new air benders. When his children became air benders, he had the responsibility of training them and passing to them a faded culture. When people suddenly became air benders, he became the premier air bending master and added them to his responsibility. Aang had to protect the world and train one son, Tenzin had to rebuild a whole culture and it’s people.

Monk Gyatso probably used the technique of the female air nomad avatar (I forgot her name 😭). Removing air/oxygen in a certain space/area, he probably also sacrificed his life by doing that since he is in the middle of the fire benders.

It's probably unlikely. Zaheer did it very small scale on the earth queen, relaxed and out of combat. Yangchen did it in a small room also out of combat through stealth. Creating that vacuum in a room doesn't seem like something even the best of the best Airbender can do if the situation is too intense. Also, creating the pressure differential probably wouldn't be doable for any Airbender if they themselves are currently suffering from air pressure issues

He could probably beat Tenzin due to flight, but not due to superior skill in bending.

Sure she is the most spiritually gifted airbender we see, but if you look at her actual airbending feats, most of the time meelo and ikki are shown to be just as capable as her. 3 years after getting her tattoos, she got captured by poachers and was rescued by meelo. She said that she can do everything that tenzin can but we don't really see that

Cute fact about the flying skill of airbenders I've read somewhere. Appearantly to be able to fly, you have to let everything go and have no attachments in the world, but the airbenders decided to give that up, because of their deep bond of the air bison

Probably, looking back on it now, the training he was doing was probably pretty unorthodox for an Avatar in order to maximize the power and effectiveness of the Avatar State by focusing 100% on spirituality whereas the Avatar is supposed to be the middle ground between the physical world and spirit world. Meaning they have to have some form of earthly attachment to most effectively do their job rather than focusing on the full optimization of their spirit energy and bending power. The Guru Lahima lore has some pretty interesting implications, not just for Aang and Air Benders but, for Avatars as well.
