@@susbedo9258 exactly. It was United, not Madrid, who gave him his break, and Alex Ferguson who made him the player he became. United were on the verge of greatness when he left, and could have won all the trophies that Madrid won if he had stayed. I could understand if he was Spanish, but he's Portuguese. The trouble with signing Latins is that if they're any good, they will just use United as a stepping stone to Madrid

The Tevez ‘strike’ was in his second or third season, not first. Also, the thing I found interesting about Schmeichel which I only learnt recently, was that (as Neville alluded to him missing the premier league) he actually nearly rejoined United just one year into his contract at Sporting. In fact the article I found stated “At the end of the 1999-2000 season, Schmeichel and Sporting CP agreed to terminate his contract with a free transfer back to Manchester United verbally agreed. However, Sir Alex Ferguson called the deal off due to turning an eye to the "future", Fabien Barthez”

@castlerockskable
@castlerockskable 3 ай бұрын
This is a very good point. Tevez, or more realistically his agent are masters at agitating moves because that's how they earned the millions. United had an agreement in place to sign him for 25.5M and they decided to agitate for United to refuse to sign him and Fergie dropped him as he knew what was going on and then signed for City and only years later it was revealed the transfer fee was 48M to City and as the agent 'owned' him he pocketed the money directly, I am sure with an agreement with Tevez for a split. Fast forward 3 seasons and he behaves in the exact same way with City forcing them to sell. Even when he was on huge money in China he basically insulted every Chinese fan by saying he was there on a holiday and earn money for his retirement. Its very shady behaviour but it means him and his agent finish their careers with much more money and at the end of the day its a career. Its only us shmucks who become emotional about 'our' clubs.

The ronaldo thing didnt bother me as much as some of the other things from the past for a few reasons. First R7 could have gone to city instead of united knowing full well he would have won it all and had good numbers with city they would have been supplying him all day long but he chose united and it had nothing to do with wages or any of that crap he makes 20 times the wages in other places. The second is at the start of the second season he said he would stay if they made improvements and matched his desire to win and if they didnt he wanted to leave and we all know they did not the glazers and their front office are terrible. The final point was he said he wanted to go multiple times and they wouldn’t let him because of how big his social media and shirt sales and all that comes with him actually is. Ronaldo dwarfs everyone else on that team with the amount of exposure and the amount of money he bought into united that's a fact and the glazers didnt want to lose that commercial value and overvalued what other clubs should pay for him the same way they overvalued and then overpaid for pretty much every player they have bought for the last decade. Thats all on the glazers being greedy and ronaldo not wasting the last few years of one of the greatest careers ever seen in world football. Sir Alex’s united was greater then one player, the glazers united simply is not because they don’t win anything and at the end of the day in top level sports winning is what matters the most and always will and united will never win like sir alex did with the glazers making the calls. Maybe ineos will do better but we still dont know everything about this deal and we havent seen anything actually happen yet other then arnold leaving and barrada in for the summer other then that its all conjecture and media pr/spin. I will not just buy into ineos blindly they have to earn my trust by fixing the things the glazers have broken and i will give them some time to do that but if they fail they will get the same disrespect the glazers do who are without a doubt the worst owners in the leagues history and people would throw a party when they leave or die…. Thats how awful the glazers are.

Ace, all of those points are invalid. He "could have gone to city instead of united"? Yes, but a true red wouldn't want to. The fact that he almost did, confirmed what I already knew when he fooked off to Madrid, a year after accusing the club of white slavery, absurd, considering the amount of money he was on at the time. He was never committed to the club unless its goals coincided with his goals. Every United fan knows that the Glazers are in it to bleed the club, we don't need to be told this, it is a given. He wanted to go? Yes, this is a running theme with Ronaldo. Contracts mean nothing to him. Legally though, United didn't have to sell him and he screwed the club because he left it too late when he handed in his transfer request. And then he threw the mother of all tantrums when he didn't get what he wanted and burnt his bridges completely. And even before that, there was the whiny bitchery and subsequent public transfer request over what he perceived to be a lack of support from the club over his role in the drama of the Portugal-England game in the 2006 World Cup, in how Rooney was sent off. Yes, he dwarfed all the other players in that squad in terms of experience but he's not a teacher, he's a maverick. He's got a lot of knowledge to pass on, in terms of technique and professionalism and he's used his technique and professionalism to become best or second best player in the world for a decade but part of coaching is leaving your pride at the door and admitting that you represent the past and enabling the future to hit those same heights. As for shirt sales and exposure, those are Glazer talking points, but that's not why you sign a player. You sign a player if you know he can bring something to the table, if he can contribute to the club's success. And Ten Hag has attempted, with limited success, to bring the playing style he encouraged at Ajax ie Gegenpress and Ronaldo, even in his prime was never the type to chase down opposition. Get the opposition on the counter and someone to play the ball through a defence and he was the man to finish that move and even in his penultimate season at United, he scored 24 goals in all competitions but his ego was unable to accept that he couldn't be the star at United and it was his ego which led him to throw that tantrum.
@BodyLotionVideos

Ten Hag put him in that position. You don’t put one of the best players ever on the bench and expect him to be happy. United should havw let him leave that summer.
@tolkienfan10
@tolkienfan10 3 ай бұрын
@@BodyLotionVideos, he *was* one of the best in the world, he's not now. He's 39, after all. And managers need results, no-one gets points for what they did five years ago. No-one's saying "Go on, Ronaldo, lad! Seen you score that cracker v Juve in the Champion's League Final in 2018. Have a free goal on us, mate!" Past deeds mean nothing if you can't continue to hit those high standards. Ten Hag inherited him from Solskjaer and Solskjaer himself has admitted that signing him was a mistake. And Ten Hag wants to play a Gegenpress game and Ronaldo has never been a great presser. No, the truth is, Ronaldo has always been a selfish prat, his every act as a player has been to suit himself and it was tolerated because he was a goalscorer supreme. Again, there's that word, "was". He's not at that level anymore. Most players, even the best, can accept that. And then there was that disastrous interview with that oily toad Piers Morgan and his assumption that other top European teams would be lining up to sign him. For myself, I'm glad that he's gone from the club.

He's always made it clear that Madrid was his ultimate dream club, so it wasn't as if he went there stabbing the club in the back. He wanted to leave after 07/08 but only stayed another season because Fergie promised him. he could leave for Madrid after that season.

He left after winning everything. No point been bitter he actually became too good for us in the Glazernomics years after our peak. United regressed massively in the next 2 years not just Ronnie leaving. Good for him for doing what was best. He became a football legend, not just United legend. Never hate a player for leaving for a world record fee after getting us many... many trophies. That's his decision then.

@@Djsonley personally I prefer players who only want to play for the club, and don't use it as a stepping stone to other clubs. Players like Bobby Charlton, Keane, Giggs and Scholes only wanted to play for United, and turned down big offers to play elsewhere.
@Djsonley

@@joekavanagh7171 The very best players tend to move around honestly if your club isn't at the very top. In Charlton's day the player and club he looked upto the most as an opponent was Di Steffano and Madrid so I imagine he may have taken a deal for Spain if it was the done thing back then. It wasn't though. Not saying Madrid is a better club I'm just saying players like who they like and have ambitions. Personally I think Madrid players have it on easy mode playing in a weaker league with better weather. Hence why some of their players get paid less than ours. Careers tend to last longer also when not in the most aggressive / demanding division which is the Prem. Look at our injury list this season.

bringing Ronaldo into this conversation makes no sense! Ronaldo is toxic? just for speaking the truth about him with the management? The board didn't treat him like a legend, they treated him like a cash cow. Many journalists were spreading lies about him, saying he was looking to move to a different club when he was in Portugal for his daughter's treatment. He spoke the truth and yes he shouldn't do it cuz it makes things worse but cmon how long would he be patient? Also about him moving to City, THAT WAS NEVER HAPPENING! Even Pep said it, it was never gonna happen Ronaldo is loyal to Man United and Sir Alex whether you believe it or not. Whatever it is Ronaldo will always remain as our Club Legend and one of the greatest player in Man United
