Who Killed Sonic 06?

In this 'documentary', we go back in time to examine the development history of Sonic 06, in an effort to figure out what went wrong, and where it went wrong.

You forgot to mention why Nintendo indirectly messed the game up too. Sonic 06 was originally supposed to be launched for the next Nintendo console, the Nintendo Revolution/ Nintendo Wii. Since Nintendo didn't go HD and created a lower powered console, Sonic 06 would not be able to run on the Wii. An alternative was made for the Wii, which was Sonic and the Secret Rings. In order to get man power for Secret Rings, SEGA cut down the team working on Sonic 06, which obviously indicates that Sonic 06 and Sonic and the Secret Rings were in development at the same time. So, Sonic 06 had lack of support along with a crunched deadline. Obviously, Nintendo isn't to blame, but it is a true that SEGA had to make alternate decisions, because Nintendo didn't provide an HD console.

According to a article i read the main thing that killed this game was Secret Ring. Ogawa was the indeed games producers originally, but left the project and took a chunk of the staff with him to make Secret Rings when it became obvious there was no way to create a port of the game for Wii, leaving his assistant in charge of the team. That loss of man power and experience meant that there was no way the remaining team could get the game done by Sega's strict holiday 2006 deadline.

Listen. If anyones here? I Wanna tell you something, this Game has LOADS OF UNUSED CONTENT and i wanna know if somebody can help rip it. This stuff include:Unused voice clips, E3 leftovers, textures, test levels (including a test level full of stop signs), objects, animations, early stages (including a town with more people and a new city with cars, Crisis City and Flame Core portals, and animals), sound effects, and unused Sonic and Shadow Crisis City co-op. And EVEN MORE! However i have only managed to rip the Voices. If somebody could help rip all this Stuff and show it off, That would be great! I'm Posting this on other sonic06 vids because we have lots of Work to do to show the World how this game was meant to be!

+Harman Ch Being rushed was only 1 problem, The game was meant to be pretty big and next gen. But sega forced the company to port it to wii u and finished by the end of 2014 due to nintendos deal with sega, And the game got a huge downgrade due to 2 things, The gamepad and the engine running on the system.

Well that explains the story, gameplays and etc for the final version. They should've did what Square Enix have done for Kingdom Hearts 3: Push back the release date. Sega did it for Sonic Mania. The creators of Sonic Mania said that they want to polish some more so they want to push the release date further. And now look what we've got. Sonic 06 have soooooo much potential. And honestly, if Yuji Naka hadn't left Sega for.... reasons, then this game call have been the real Sonic Adventure 3 (Or another epic Sonic title then "Sonic the Hedgehog")

That would never happen. And Naka alone can't carry Sonic. Especially considering Naka's recent games haven't been all that good. Sega and Sonic Team just need to shape up. And this 25th Anniversary is their opportunity to do so.

Yay but remeber Rodea the Sky Soldier for Wii, Wii U, and 3DS. Well Kadokawa games fucked the Wii U and 3DS versions up. O'm so scared that if Sonic was in Yuji Naka's video company Kadokawa will strike so maybe thats another reason Yuji Naka can't have the Sonic series.

The first revealed version , with the day and night system looks better than the final version, that version should have been tweaked slightly and had some features added and then that should've been released, but overall, while I understand that the game is considered to be bad , I don't hate it, I am satisfied with the game enough, but it still could've been better

The day and night system was scrapped because the PS3 was graphically incapable of handling it at the time, and considering that they were trying to make Sonic 2006 on both systems; they had to drop it.

Still an amazing game. Maybe one day we will get a director's cut or rerelease. But that hasn't stop me from enjoying the game. Also I own 92 copys of Sonic Next.

To be honest, I'm not sure I would have absolutely loved Sonic 06 even if the development team was able to complete it the way they had intended. Yes, the beta/demo builds appear more stable and enjoyable, but the core gameplay, levels, and story didn't change significantly between then and the final release date.

Sonic Team was also working on Journey of Dreams AND Secret Rings, so now both those games seem more forgivable to me, though I haven't even rented this train wreck yet.

Honestly Sonic 06 isn't as bad as people make it out to be. Don't get me wrong, it's still a bad game, but I can think of 10 worse Sonic games just off the top of my head. Sonic R, Sonic Labyrinth, Sonic 3D Blast, Sonic Riders, Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, Sonic Free Riders, Sonic Drift, Sonic Drift 2, Sonic Lost World, and Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal. (Not Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric because it was decent.)

Shadow the Hedgehog wasn't even that bad. Neither was 06. It was plenty flawed, but I still enjoyed it. Those are a lot better than the games now. All the games are now are just speed boosting in a straight line with simplistic and childish stories.

eh I only hated Shadow The Hedgehog of the constantly unnecessary cutscene replaying. Other than that I think it was okay. Chaos Dark and Hero were cool and the weapon influnce from that. Sonic 06 made shadow weaker in his chaos abilities *no longer invincible, chaos snap can help kill shadow *teleports shadow to death collision in crisis city, Chaos Lance should be more destructive charged, Chaos Blast obviously weak and 2player silver can interrupt him by will * aside from that I thought shadow was okay > silver > Sonic. What I really hate about 06 is the unused content *like rainbowgem* I mean after years of no Super in normal stage without some pc mod, this would be the come back and what happened nothing more years of waiting. SG comes out only problem is SUper Sonic ring drain is 2secs but merely 7 while boosting. 3DS Super Sonic was the best normally played Super Sonic *friken upgrade comepare to the wii u/pc one, 3ds lost world > wii u sadly. Then Sonic Boom DOOMED EVERYTHING.

Lets think about it for a while. Wait a minute If yugi guy didn't leave Sega they wouldn't have rushed and put stress on the development team, and if Microsoft didn't want the game out by Christmas 2006 they would've been able to test the game and polish the physics engine and build of the game, and if the ps3 wasn't a b**** to develop for then then it would've been an easy port from the 360 to ps3 and maybe could've gotten a PC port, and if Nintendo didn't make the Wii a weak system then Sega wouldn't have to split the Development team into two to make a whole new game. Conclusion: It's everyone's fault the game turned out the way it is.

No, no, no. Almost none of that is correct. The only people who are to blame are SEGA and Sonic Team. Microsoft didn't care about the game, and those are very poor reasons to blame Sony and Nintendo.

Basically if the wii never came out or actually had good hardware this game would be good...if sonic and the secret rings was delayed then this game would be good...if this game was delayed as a late anniversary game for just 2 or 3 months it would be good(hopefully)...it makes me mad that this game had potential but it didn't work out...I mean I subjectively think this game is good however i still wish this was better...it could've been so much better...it could've been objectively good...but no its not...its objectively and statistically horrible...this sucks so much
