There are other journalists who followed this case more closely, and did some digging themselves. Mazhar Abbass is just quoting what AP said and what other news outlets said. Omer Sheik was not charged with murder, because he was in custody at the time of murder, and he surrendered himself, the prosecution on the other hand claimed he was arrested, but this claimed was falsified in the court, after Omer sheikh surrender was proven, so he was just charged with helping in Kidnapping and was given the max. sentence of 7 years, but still served 18yrs in prison.
