Weird question about one of those positions where you only need to move the rook over in order to castle, while the king stays on the same square: what if the player touches the king first on instinct? Must he then make a king move because of the touch-move rule? In classical chess touching the king can indicate both a king move or castling to one of the sides. F.e. Carlsens position at 2:18:23, after developing the queen and bishop.
@davidhoffer1148
@davidhoffer1148 10 ай бұрын
Usually you are advised to verbally (or by a gesture) announce castling, also for example in a position with the king on f1, when moving it to g1 might be castling or might be just moving the king.

The king move would then be putting him at the same square as he was, unique in chess but should be legal in this case.

Daaaamn Niclas - great job. As a german I tried out Niclas' youtube channel a few times and never got into it and stayed at other German (and international) KZbin channels. But holy moly - he did an absurdly good job at the monitor to complement Peter and Tania. Really well done, Niclas. Hope you will join many other international chess broadcasts in future. This kind of tournament is really interesting. Especially for someone who doesnt play chess a lot like me. I am not that good and have no real ambition to get better. But watching top chess players and get explained the many ideas by other very good chess player is really, really interesting. Like it a lot. Congrats to Vincent (and its such a pleasure to listen to him in interviews - he so full of joy for chess)... but I hope everybody will find strong moments - especially Ding. He is MUCH better than he can show currently. And although it sounds a bit unpolite... but... I like that Magnus is not leading clearly but is "just" part of the group. All 8 player are just great skilled people. Thanks for this very interesting tournament and looking foward for the other days A LOT 🙂

@@kingStribor Actually I hope for Fabi - he has so deserved the title. If there wasnt Magnus in almost exactly the same age Fabi would be a huge champion. Alireza still has many many years ahead and will have to face a lot competition by Pragg, Abdusattorov, Gukesh and Keymer. These five youngsters will be very strong in the next 5 years.
@kingStribor
@kingStribor 10 ай бұрын
@@BoothTheGrey I agree actually...I just mention Alireza, because I would like to see real champ to be champ again, this situation feels somehow unnatural for me...but he told that he'll only play championship with Alireza...but who knows, maybe if FIDE change time controls for championship match, he could change his mind...Also, guys you mentioned, they are really fierce competition and they still didn't reached their peak. Nodirbek is certainly champ material, I follow his games lately, he have incredible mental strength, but all of this youngsters are also beasts, chess have bright future, that is undeniable. Anyhow, good times for us, chess fans, we will not lack in really quality chess for sure.

@BoothTheGrey
@BoothTheGrey 10 ай бұрын
@@kingStribor But thats why I think Fabi deserves his title. He took Magnus clearly to the limits and showed that in classical chess he is as strong as Magnus. Fabi lost agains Magnus only because today we dont do this crazy shit like decades before when they would have to play til one of them finally wins. Magnus is clearly better in rapid or blitz - but in classical they are both as equal as you can get. And Magnus doesnt like classical (anymore) - which I deeply respect. But this means... actually the best classical player right now should be Fabi when he is in good shape. And I do hope very much he sees his chances and prepares for the candidates very well and takes the lead there. Ding maybe isnt the best overall - but when he is in good shape he clearly is one of the best player. I assume Ding stays in international chess only til his next world championship fight and then will let go. Maybe he even wont do this fight when he notices he isnt in good shape. And maybe... this would be a good compromise between you and me. If Ding steps back and the first two ranked player from the candidate tournament will play the world championship game... and those two player are Fabi and Alireza 😀

Not chess-related: Production quality of the tournament coverage leaves a lot to be desired, unfortunately. Putting some scene timing and sound issues aside, not showing 1st round chessboard variation while they were discussing it back in the studio (around 22:32) was just too not considering the viewer for me not to stop watching and write this commennt. Undeniably, 195k for prizes affects the budget and it is important for the players to have comfort and space to perform but this (not showing the unique chessboard all future games in the round will be played at) was a big mistake imho. UPDATE: 26:19 why two different starting board positions??

57: 50 "If we zoom out to our birdseye view, Peter, we see two boards completely fubar because someone forgot to randomize their starting positions." Even in the second round ( 2:47:30 ) this is still completely wrong and not corrected, although actually Tania continues to fail to notice it. Just keep falling down on the job, guys. This is what we've come to expect from chess24.

I would strongly disagree! Looking at the evaluation bar before analysing a position takes away the essence from the game just like starting a movie knowing what's gonna likely happen at the end. Chess feels more "human" without an evaluation bar and that's the correct way to enjoy chess.

Why not 1c3 in first move with tempo on pawn he defend by playing g6 opening up his bishop and than you take center control by pushing d4. Now you can develop your knigths and get king to safety. I saw nobody having this ide only one close and that was c4 but that gives black bishop a strong diagonal. Okei keymer plays similar with d4 first move. Mby little better but c3 mby little more forcing Hahaha just realized it was the way Magnus played
