At least the openai CEO talks about using AI for advancement of society and not just greed like the others.

That's insane. With the advent of algos like that, surely there's not long until well, essentially most journalism, online media messaging/promotion, and online text communication is outsourced to people who can utilise these algos to build custom-tailored content. The general simplification of tech over time would ensure "The Internet" becomes an echo chamber of bots talking to bots. Which is already fairly prevalent in some apps. Makes me wonder which private companies already have in-house variants of GPT-3.

imagine training gpt-4 in game design and 3D modelling. then you'll simply say: build me a map, 10 x 10 km, with 30% 1920s urban area, 50% wildnerness and one 5th of random scenery, have it all be in a winter sunset with light snowfall. and boom. done. and then you'll just go from there with "now add XYZ". I'd love that job. good thing microsoft just started to heavily invest into the gaming space.

Hrm, GPT-3 was not an algorithmic breakthrough, though it was a scaling "breakthrough". A third party can, in principle, scrape all the text corpora, spend $5m on TPU time and do the same. So without even looking into it I know Microsoft did not spend $1B on this. The algorithm is not even developed by OpenAI; it's Google Brain's BERT algorithm with sparse attention and more layers. Facts matter...

The react app creation from GPT-3 provokes an interesting question - will AI replace software engineers. Curios to know how and what information was GPT-3 given in order to produce that balance app - how narrow is the "training set" or how was it trained?

@karolinasowinska4 жыл бұрын

@duudleDreamz4 жыл бұрын
Microsoft didn't buy GPT-3 as such, instead (much before GPT-3 was finished) they agreed to collaborate with OpenAI and as part of that collaboration Microsoft was to support OpenAI with $1 Billion, and in return Microsoft would have the sole right to license OpenAI's systems/products; and this is exactly what they've done with GPT-3.

True, it was exclusively licensed rather than sold, but then again... it's the same idea. Transfer of money and transfer of exclusive rights to use.
