Woodford Double Oaked used to be my favorite, but now that I have a bottle of OF 1910 I really like it better.

They are extremely close IMO when it comes to quality. I had my wife help me with a blind on the rocks with the 2 and I picked the 1910 but they were close.

Wot no Woodford double-oak?! Always got a bottle in my cabinet as it`s a comforting sweet pour but perhaps I should try something different. I`m a chocoholic so the Starlight would definitely work for me. Nice comparison Jason.

Starlight is a new one for me and have recently had their Port Finish and Double Oaked. But Starlight's Cigar Batch (Amburana Barrel) is unreal. One of the best I've ever had. Cool to see them get some love.

Just did this same blind two nights ago with OF 1910, WR DO, Sagamore DO, and Starlight DO (non-pick). Finished in that same order but all were good. Going to do round two soon with Peerless DO, Penelope Toasted, 2XO, and a Nulu Toasted. I have a feeling Penelope is going to win, it’s been my favorite thus far. Wouldn’t mind seeing you do a round two on this with some different bottles in the future. Cheers!

Was really interested in this one but having the non standard Starlight pick included was a little disappointing. Would like to see how an off the shelf Starlight DO would fare. If it still wins great! But to compare this way isn’t a fair fight when the one was a personal pick.

The 1910 is about the only one I have seen in our area and I like it a lot. I will keep my eyes open for the other ones. I just grabbed a bottle of Penelope toasted so looking forward to cracking that. Will have to see how it compares to 1910 and WRDO.

As much as I like the Starlight Double Oaked Bourbons most of the time I find their Double Oaked Ryes even better!!! I also need to try to get you a sample of the Thirteenth Colony Double Oaked or see if I can find another bottle and get it to you. I think that bottle would easily win but it is also at 135.3 proof and 9 years old. It would also fit in the middle price wise at 80 bucks.

1910 was so much different than Woodford DO. I prefer Woodford and Peerless. I wish I could find the Starlight I only see it online.

Is that a Peerless barrel pick? OHLQ has it at 101 proof. I like how Peerless proofs down the whiskey before barreling. As opposed to everyone else who adds water after aging. I just feel like they're very expensive.

Nice video. I have all of these except Starlight. Not surprised about 1910 … it’s way too sweet and thin for me. Have not opened the other two so interested in trying as bought the 2XO on your recommendation albeit you seemed reserved and not blown away by it. Blinds are always fun and surprised Starlight won out. As an aside, I bought some black Glen Cairns after I noticed you using them … such a great idea. Cheers!!!

I've only had three double oaked bottles (well, four, if you count Jim Beam Double Oak), Woodford, OF 1910 and Sagamore Double Oaked Rye. I don't dislike them but am otherwise a bit underwhelmed. Maybe it's the lower proof of all of them, or maybe that flavor profile just doesn't suit me. I like longer aged whiskeys, but for some reason these double barreled ones are just different.

I've never cared for Woodford Reserve. My brother gave me a bottle years ago, and I could taste hints of pine AFA my pallette was concerned. For Christmas this year, I got a bottle of Woodford Reserve from Secret Santa and a bottle of Woodford Reserve Double Oaked from a business partner. I learned that pouring over ice is EVERYTHING. The Double Oaked is very , very good this way. The regular Woodford Reserve is palatable (would rather have Knob Creek), but served with a few ice cubes changed my perspective.

I really hate these kinds of trends: twice barreled and finished whisky. This has been happening in the scotch world for years, but scotch is a different animal. Many a scotch whisky needs to be finished to add more complexity to it. Bourbon on the other hand with 3 and sometimes 4 grains, new charred oak, and seasonal temperature changes make for a very complex spirit. This is all about market share and getting new people into bourbon. Unfortunately, there are two camps: big bourbon giants chasing trends and market share by taking good whisky and making into something different. Sometimes good like 1910 or bad like Jack Daniel’s twice barreled rye. Then you have someone that will take bad juice like Nulu who buys rejected experimental and dregs from MGP to make it drinkable. Unfortunately, the end result from all of the experiments and marketing, is a higher cost to all whisky. And this will only get worse in the coming years. Production has ramped up on a monumental scale, but it’s not for you, it’s or Europe and Asia.

I think it’ll be the 2xo but that may be because it’s my favorite of those, except of course the pick. I was wrong. The final ranking surprised me because I didn’t remember you liking the Peerless when it first came out. I think you thought it was too tannic.
